hello thanks for the video did you notice a quicker throttle respond with the new cable?

+rct5r I couldn't say. This is primarily my wife's car, and although I do drive it, I don't have a clear memory of how the throttle felt before the repair. I DO know that the throttle got stuck once for her while on the highway - which is what prompted this repair.

pulsing1982 You're welcome. Best of luck with the repair from the northeastern part of the continental US.

MercedesDieselGuy Thanks mate - turns out I needed it!! Now here's a trap for new players: if you've a RHD (Right Hand Drive), the LHD part (as typically sourced from the US), is too short! I'll be returning mine to FCP, and sourcing the correct part (for my RHD 855) from the UK. Hey ho! #8 )

Someone may be interested in my experience of this. It was viewing this video that gave me the confidence to DIY replace snapped throttle cable on my 1994 850 Automatic. Iam in UK The trouble was the process at the very point where this video skips ! 3.08 I could not remove the kickdown switch that is either side of the bulkhead entry. The official method it seems is, from the drivers side to move lugs with a screwdriver & push into the engine compartment. I found this totally impossible because 1. the unit barely protrudes into the drivers side , 2. it is covered by insulation ( albeit pierced for the cable ) and 3 . The lugs ( there are several) are small. I removed from the engine compartment side by prising the unit away with a large screwdriver. The white lug collar piece eventually becomes visible and with robust prising will break. The whole unit will now pull out from the engine side. (There is an electrical connector to the switch that needs to be disconnected before you start ) , Damage to the switch is not a problem as it is all part of the new cable part. I would imagine the manual cable replacement is more straightforward as there is no kickdown switch. The new switch with the cable, clicks through the bulkhead quite easily. The rest of the job is exactly as per the video and was problem free. Just strange that the video skips the difficult bit and Dielsel guy does not mention it in his reply to Michael Sackstein. But thanks for the video anyway as it gave me the courage to embark on this Thanks

Hello I didn't deliberately omit anything from the video. I'm not set up in a professional studio, and due to lighting/location in the vehicle, this would have been a very difficult bit to film. This was a while ago - it's possible I DID film this part, but the footage may have been unusable. Anyhow, that information sounds about right, based on my memory of the job.

Hmmm, how to get the cable out of the firewall?

I don't recall the specifics offhand, as I did the repair years ago, but once you're in there, that part is fairly self-explanatory.

Installed a new cable and its too long how do i adjust it?????
@MercedesDieselGuy5 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure there is an adjustment. Are you sure you ordered the right part? Did you route it properly around the throttle cable wheel under the black plastic cover?
@mds246510 жыл бұрын
I was wondering if you had gotten to this yet. btw, the video skips at 3:08
@MercedesDieselGuy10 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I finally got to it. As for that skip, it's not a serious one, so I'm going to leave it be. I had no end of trouble rendering this video. Can't figure out why.

At least it wasn't one of those expensive electronic throttle units that they put on the newer Volvos. If that were the case you would have to get the computer reprogrammed by a professional. Not all cars require this step but I know Volvos do.
