@@danielgrassi4343 I thought it was odd that the Dolphins organization talked Johnson into coming back when he quit on them after the 1998 season. Anytime someone just up and leaves like that it's obvious they don't want to be there. By talking him into coming back they had a coach who clearly knew the team wasn't going to win anything (he wouldn't have left if he thought they'd be great) and who already had one foot out the door. There was probably much sentiment in Jacksonville for moving the Dolphins into the AFC South with the Jaguars, wanting an instate rivalry. But the Dolphins wanted to stay with the Bills, Jets, and Patriots. The NFL honored the Dolphins' wishes, which would haunt the team as they have been in the playoffs only twice since realignment thanks largely to Tom Brady. Had the Dolphins moved into the South, their post-realignment fortunes might have been better.
@EdmacZ3 жыл бұрын
At the same time, the Jaguars likely wanted to stay with the Steelers, who were going to the North. Pittsburgh was their fiercest Division rival for many years and a measuring stick Jacksonville lived up to. I wager Jacksonville was disappointed that they lost the Steelers. It’s no coincidence that once Jacksonville lost Pittsburgh, they were nowhere as successful as they once were. The Steelers are among the oldest and most famous franchises in the NFL and it gave the Jaguars marquee value as well. The Colts, Titans, and Texans don’t carry the same fierceness.

this has gotta be the worst first 18 minutes of a football game any team has played in nfl history. its truly unbelievable how bad the dolphins were. 38-0 before marino completed his first pass!!! how is that possible??
@juanpabloperez9063 Жыл бұрын
is only possible if you have a Turtle Marino in your team
@dennismumford61084 жыл бұрын
What a good team Marino had in '99-a Top 13 Offense, a Top 5 Defense, and his backs had OVER 2,000 yds. rushing and receiving. But once again Dan stunk it up in a playoff game. Dan was playoff challenged a majority of the time.The P-F-R study shows how challenged he was.
@dennismumford61084 жыл бұрын
The P-F-R study says Marino gave the Dolphins a Negative Value in 10 playoff games and a Value in the single digits in 2 others. His overall Value was a terrible NEGATIVE 156. Other more successful QB's had Values from 300 to 1,000.
@dennismumford61084 жыл бұрын
Favre's Value was 302, Warner 422, Staubach 461, Aikman 527, Young 580, Elway 767, Bradshaw 903, and Montana 1,292. Again, Marino's Value was MINUS 156. This study was never updated after '08 so Brady, Manning, Brees, Rodgers, etc., do not have full totals.
@dennismumford61084 жыл бұрын
Actually I now know that the study was done from '67 through '06 so Starr, Unitas, and a few others do not have full totals either.

Marino was 38 years old, hobbling on one leg due to the achilles tendon tear that was never properly repaired. To top it off, in '99 he had a cervical injury to his neck that made it impossible for him to throw a ball for almost two months. He was done physically at this point.

Heartbreak as a lifelong Dolphins fan . This was so pathetic and sad.. with that said . How awesome was the field in the playoffs back then..I remember Miami had navy blue end zones in the playoff game the year before vs buffalo.. so much more creative back then

Its a shame how the Miami Dolphins GM an owner waisted Dan Marino career he didn't deserve to get this kind of beating in his last game hes one of the top 10 maybe top 7 QBs of all time as a Packers fan I do remember watching this game my older brother went for Dolphins an I went for Jaguars

Dolphins did made the playoffs in 2000, beat the Colts in overtime before losing to the Raiders. Jaguars didn't get to the postseason until the 2005 season.

True, but 2000 was Miami's last playoff win to date and Jacksonville has had quite a few more since 2005

The most..., tragic day in Dolphin's history. I mean, the better team won, but it was no way for Dan Marino to end his career - to be such a renowned QB to not only: not win a championship, but to also end your (Hall of Fame) career on this note... (62-7, really?!); still hurts to this day... He deserved better than that... Nor was it a fitting way for Jimmy Johnson to leave as the coach. Then, for the Jaguars to have their own dark day the very next week to lose the AFC Championship at home to the Titans...
