This is great. Just what I needed to know. Reprogrammed or not. I believe the security system is the catch. Our 99 3.9 Dakota is doing this. We r gonna try using the same model ecm from local yard. (Hard to find)

I had one with a bad battery terminal.... It was accidentally resetting the PCM. I fixed the cable and presto, PCM problems...

Well a bad ground can cause alot of problems. Dirty positive power can cause havoc also. The normal failure is the connectors at the soldering joints mostly or failed component within the pcm

Is there anyway to make some kind of heat shield to protect it? Seems it'll just continually be an ongoing issue. I have a 2000 Durango 5.9l that was given to me by my parents with only 140K miles. Started stalling on me few months after driving it. After it being parked for a few months trying to figure out what problem was, my mechanic noticed the distributor was wobbling; turns out a bolt had broken on it. We thought for sure that was the fix for it, he drove it around for the day. I drove it around locally, and then it stalled on me. When it stalls, you can disconnect the neg battery cable, and it resets it so it'll start. This has been very frustrating. I may check around and do as you said and see if a junkyard one will work. Looked around, and I don't think the 2000's have the chip in the key. Otherwise, looking around online, seems to be a lot of places that are scamming people on flashed reman'd ones. So make sure to check BBB complaints before buying. Found one on ebay that has good reviews, I'll probably go with them if I can't find a junkyard one to try out. Then I can get the radiator replaced and maybe drive the damn car again lol. Thank you for the update.

Heat shielding will only do so much. If they would have moved the ecu in side of the vehicle it would have been fine. If your finding a used ecu then you have to make sure it's the same engine n transmission. Technically a 5.2 ecu will run the 5.9 it will just run lean. Just make sure it's a 2000 to 2003 if yours is a 2000, I experienced an issue with running a 2000 ecu on a 1999, it ran but the gauges weren't working must be a pin out difference

@@RedneckProvingGrounds Ok and thank you for responding. Went in to talk with my mechanic. He initially had someone that was going to "loan" me a pcm from their 2000 to test it, and he was saying the same thing-should just be able to swap them. I guess that guy is in jail now......so he searched around and said they may have one from a 1999 that should work. I said just let me pull the part number from mine first. Everything about this whole issue is a fiasco it seems lol. If it wasn't in such great shape aside from this, and I know my parents babied it, would've traded all of my vehicles in for a Toyota.

Well either way it doesn't hurt to test it, if all the gauges are working then you are good to go

So I had the no bus years ago. dealership told me the pcm and gauge cluster both had shorts. so I ordered a new pcm matched to my vin and miles and a used cluster. because the cluster and pcm have different miles stored the no bus has continued to come up everytime with no issues. I have been driving it this way for more than 5 years. Now I'm having problems with random stalling and struggling to start. If I give it gas its fine but sometimes if you tap the gas it revs up then chokes out when letting off the gas. Also, seems to have developed a parasitic drain somewhere which I haven't been able to locate.

Do you have the factory alarm option I've encountered random battery drains from that issue. To arm n disarm the alarm is the driver door lock. You might have a fuel related issue for stalling unless it's displaying no bus error on the mileage, as someone else pointed out on my other video there might be a bad ground on one of the cylinder heads going to body ground might want to check grounds at this point also

The no bus issue is caused by fault pcm design. The cluster wouldn't cause no bus error fyi. Try checking the pcm connectors for damaged or loose connections on the connector side usually middle connector

@@RedneckProvingGrounds best I can tell the connectors are fine. All the dodge forums said when you replace the cluster it has to be flashed to match the pcm or it will give the no bus code.

So I have a 2002 Durango 5.9L. This second pcm I've put on it in 2 years. The last one I knew it was the PCM. This one has me scratching my head. I have found on cooler days. I can get it to start up and run for for like 20 or 30 minutes. Shows the No Bus. Wait about and hour and there's no, NoBus and it will fire up and run again. I have changed the TPS, crank shaft sensor, cam senor in the distributor. I pulled the fuse box up and looked at all wires. Is this going to be a thing where I have to pulled this pcm and have it rebuilt all the time? I'm confused

Unfortunately it's a failure in the pcm even ones that claim to be new are often times refurbished or simply reflashed from wreaking yard ecus or core returns at part stores. The other known cause of this is grounds from the engine to the vehicle body aka cylinder head grounds on the front of each cylinder head which this case is extremely uncommon.

Update I bought used pcm from a Dakota 3.9 fr my ramvan 3.9 it now turns on and idles but falls flat on its face when I try to drive,oh and check engine lights on and zero oil pressure, helppp!!!!!

I got the no bus issue currently that stemmed off the factory antitheft. The vehicle runs and drives however nothing works on the cluster and there's a no bus on odometer after flashing a few times. Got it at electrician and just replaced a wet and broken fuse block in the engine bay. He's asking now for a pcm which I'm having difficulty finding. My question is if I can pull one out a Durango with the same engine would it work? Mine is a 99 5.9 4x4

1997-1999 same engine and transmission only tho in theory a 5.9 ECU will run a 5.2 and vise versa but not advised long term aka different fuel maps
