***Final Update*** I no longer own the Durango. However, In the end my problem was a burned wire leading from the electric fan into the main harness. The problem was found in the area where the harness wraps under the left side of the radiator. Looking at the harness showed no damage at all. However, removing the covering and VERY CLOSELY looking at the wires I found two wires that at first looked good but a really close inspection found the 2 wires were seared and just barely touching. This caused the short, if the key was left on long enough somehow it would start. This is a "one off freak thing". Check your wiring closely.
**(update as of 12/17/19)** I have been away out of the country, now I am back. Durango is still in same condition. I actually just started it again today and drove it around. Had to wait 5 minutes and started right up and ran for over 3 hours. Engine light stays on and gives a code for "fan relay" which has been replaced. All sensors & relays have been tested or replaced. We still have not replaced the wiring harness. Remember... when this all started and the motor first shut down there was a strong smell of "burn rubber wiring" under the hood. It was the fan relay and the electric fan motor was fried. However the mechanic replaced the PCM and never touched the fan. Although the wire harness looks fine, after running down all other possibilities (sensors, relays ect..) I am thinking "wire harness" due to the burned out electric fan. Problem is I work so much I have very limited time to spend looking for the problem. The video will remain here to show others that while many people have this problem due to a bad PCM or a bad sensor... you could also have this problem due to something electrical. I thank all who take the time to comment and offer their ideas and opinions.
(update as of 4/11/19, I have not done anything with the Durango over the winter other than starting it every 4 days. In the cold weather the car will either start right away with no problem at all or within 30 seconds to one minute. This really does point to a short in the wire harness. Now that the weather is getting warmer I plan to run down the problem. Thank you everyone for all the comments so far.)
In this video the car will start at the 8 minute mark, after sitting with the key in the "on" position.
(Original Statement) So many "no bus" videos, but I haven't seen one like this. Been driving it like this for over two weeks. While driving on a very hot day the motor shuts down and "no bus" appears. Upon lifting the hood I smell burnt wires. Auto shop puts in a new PCM. Car starts & runs fine for 1 day (but has engine light). Second day car will not start, while on the phone talking to the mechanic I see the gauges come on and the car starts. Drive to the auto shop, check codes and get the code for "fan relay." Check the relay is fried. Take out the relay. The car runs fine after it starts, but this video shows what I have to do each time I want start the car.
Thinking many things and trying many things... But I keep coming back to the fact I smelled burnt wires as soon as this whole thing first happened. Tomorrow I will dig into the wire harness. I seen a video tonight of a "no bus" problem where the wire harness had a short. I will update when (if) I fix.
**UPDATE**
It never dies when running. Once the car is engine is running everything is fine. I drove the care for 5 solid hours starting out with moderate county road driving and the NJ turnpike. It also sat an idles for 45 minutes at one point. The ambient temperature was in the mid 80's. I feel if the engine was going to die from heat this would do it.
The no bus/starting is not as bad during cool dry mornings. A few times (2) I turned the key and the engine started with no waiting. On cool mornings the average wait time for the no bus to disappear is about 1 -2 minutes. But on rainy damp days the wait time is a lot longer. I have waited as long as 52 minutes for the no bus to go away. I will turn the key on for 10 minute intervals. If it doesn't go away (no bus) I turn the key off for 30 seconds and try again. Eventually it always starts.
This is telling me it is a wiring connection problem. I have searched high & low on the engine harness and I also removed the instrument panel and checked the harness under the dash. Nothing wrong anywhere! Checked all fuses (in car & under the hood) all relays have been checked or replaced and all sensors work fine. Again... once it starts it never stalls and runs fine.
