This was made in the noughties where build quality really took a dive thanks to cost cutting. It nearly ruined Mercedes financially. This S Class is in great condition though. I have a 1995 C280 120k and still runs beautifully: lovely smooth straight 6 and pretty quick. I hate it that you can pay 60k now for a luxury saloon and it comes with a four cylinder.
@AdsTrapatony2 жыл бұрын
@@crabby112 what are you on about? Only thing Porsche did regarding W124 was building the 500E because Mercedes didn't had a building line wide enough for the car at the time. Porsche developed 0 about the W124, they just put some together. And Mercedes went to Porsche in order to help them not go bankrupt, not for lack of skills or whatever. The car was developed in the late 70's, Porsche was nothing compared to Mercedes at the time. Get your story straight.

3:12 Reliability was not actually improved for 2003. The MB master tech I have spoken to in the past actually said some electronics got less reliable (like the new Comand units) and the 722.6 5-speed is able to handle more torque (more durable). The best improvement for 2003 was solving corrosion issues some of the earlier cars suffered from (some were worse than others). Mechanically the cars are otherwise basically the same.
@kolinstallman37882 жыл бұрын
Owner of an 2004, got the 5 speed, command unit is ok but audio doesn't work when it gets cold, like below 0c so that's weird and the corrosion issues are not fixed. Mine has text book w220 rust. Built in 04 too, forget the month. All Ive had do to was get a new PSE pump for the locks, trunk, seats and whatnot, used for 200 canadian pesos. Car has been pretty solid. My 04 5 545i, now that was alot more fun but man was it a POS. Owned it 2 years, probably put like 10k in parts into it, DIY labour.

Funny. For my w211 the dash says either C or S. Was told if you have the C and S combo, C means comfort while S meant sport. W and S combo means it is Winter and Standard for sure. The S on my w211 doesn't feel like standard at all. Feels really jerky when u let off the gas. Throttle response also becomes damn sharp that it feels like a throttle cable car.

'A' mode can be unlocked if u have the computer software to do it. But A only shows its effect if you have more gears like the 7Gtronic. For the 5GTRONIC tranny, agility mode isn't necessary. S is already enough.

But I also want the more downshift willingness from the S mode :) Would be nice if you could adjust those things yourself in some way with a couple of knobs or touch screen.. and make a custom setting.
