Barring injury, I wonder what she was on course to run that year in the 200. Would she have been fast enough to hold off Inger Miller? IMO, 21.53

yeah. she would have destroyed Miller. I think your guess was probably pretty close. She ran 10.70 in the 100 and she was a much better 200m runner.

Marion had run 10.65 & 21.62 in the World Cup the year before.. aided with the altitude, but negated with piss poor reaction times (0.18 in 100m, and 0.25 in 200m.. she was usually a good reactor to the gun).. good for 10.61 & 21.57 at least with normal reaction times.. the 10.70 she ran in Seville was into a slight headwind (-0.1) but with 0.120 reaction, so I don't think she was as in as good form as in 1998 where she ran 10.7 left right and centre throughout the season.. 21.60-21.65 if she's fit in the 200m IMO

I originally overlooked your mention of altitude, but nevertheless her Jo'burg runs convert to 10.75 and 21.75 at sea level and 0 wind. Giving her 100m run a .12 would put the race on par with her Seville run. However, she managed her 10.70 after rounds, whereas her world cup runs were essentially "one offs". I'd argue that she was in better shape in 99. A 21.5x wouldn't have been out of the question if she hadn't suffered those back spasm IMO

In Seville she was probably in better form (intrinsically).. 10.70 after the rounds (10.76 too in the quarter-final) into a slight -0.1, good reaction though at 0.120 (Thanou 0.116).. Jones was 0.183 in 10.65 so that is 10.59 with same reaction as Seville.. terrible rection of 0.25something in 21.62 kept that from being a 21.57 at least.. it is a shame Inger Miller wasn't fit in Sydney as the 200m would've been a great battle
