In the video you showed compressing the calipers with the wide jaw pliers, it looked like it may have been biting the boots. To avoid this I always use a C-clamp with one of the old pads, it allows me to compress both positions at once without biting the boot

I've been trying for an hour to do the brakes and here I was trying to put the pads in on the inside and compressing the one spring. Turns out to spring goes up. Once you're in there then you'll see what I mean. At least that's what I see what happened in this video! Thank you.

Turns out those springs on the guides do go up. For the next person who sees this, those springs DO NOT fold down😂.

Used this video to install rotors and pads on my '13 Acadia - the video made it easy! But, it could not have saved me from the pervasive "rotor screw" issue. I had to drill out 3 of the 4 screws, despite using penetrating solvent, a torch, and banging with a screwdriver/hammer. After breaking off a Torx bit in each of the first 3 screws, didn't bother on the 4th, so I wouldn't have to drill it out too. The one screw I was able to remove had a broken Torx bit in it and I created a slot with a dremel and used a screwdriver. ***NOTE: after installing the new brakes and rotors, check for a BREAK-IN/BEDDING PROCEDURE!!!

That screw isn't needed. Just use a couple lug nuts to hold the rotor in place.

Why is there a different torque spec for the front and rear caliper bolts? Also 140 ft/lb torque for lug nuts seem like a lot of torque.
@andyhernandez30414 жыл бұрын
You don’t need to take out the caliper in two part. You can take the whole caliper in one part, replace the pads and put the caliper back.

Up here in the rust belt we need to change our hardware every time and grease under the hardware so the hardware is not rust jacked into the pads. That car is not a rust belt vehicle.

The old pad had the wear indicator on top and you installed the new pad with the indicator on bottom. Does it matter? I recall hearing it should be on the leading edge, the top.
@1AAuto Жыл бұрын
+Leigh Anne Bobka This specific brake kit will have the wear sensors on the bottom. As long as they are listed to fit your vehicle exactly, they will install just like the original parts.

Great video! After you install new pads do you have to pump the brake pedal? If so do you do it before starting the car or after? Also how many times do you need to pump them?

On the hub surface you used regular grease it looks like, and on the carrier pins you used brake grease what's the difference?
@1AAuto4 жыл бұрын
+eric zayonce Thanks for watching! You want to use grease specifically formulated for the caliper slide pins, but any standard grease for the hub surface is fine. You can find these lubricants at any local auto parts store!

Silicone based grease is used anywhere there is rubber in close contact.

I have a constant grinding noise after doing a 2013 acadia only difference was 2 cylinders on the brake pad any idea why I would have this problem? Is it possible the clips are scraping against the rotor?
@1AAuto6 жыл бұрын
+David Lynn There could be multiple reasons why you're having this particular problem. We suggest taking your vehicle to a nearby reputable shop to identify the cause.
@DavidLynn16 жыл бұрын
@@1AAuto thanks for the reply took a look i dont know how it happened but the clip was bent scraping along the corner of the rotor all seems well now but theirs a creaking from the break pedal when pressed could this be the pedal itself? Im assuming it might be the pivot?
@ritarussell90565 жыл бұрын
@@1AAuto I had a similar problem with my front brakes, turned out it was the inside pad not retracting clear of the rotor. The pad seems to stick and the spring clip doesn't have enough force to push it away from the rotor totally when you let off the brake. So it rubs and is noisy as you drive without applying the brake. I may have to remove the assembly again and replace the clip as it seems to be defective.
@Humble_Lyfe5 жыл бұрын
Did you ever figure out the problem I had that problem. What I did was.... Re-adjusting the rotor and the breaks and make sure you don't over tight the caliper. It got my problem fixed. Theirs a specifications for how much torque their should be on the caliper screw's. Over doing it will not let the breaks position it's self away from the rotor when releasing the breaks. My rotor are warped again. On the highway I go 60 and I start to approach at a red light. I hit the breaks. Steering wheel starts going side to side so bad. Replaced rotors and breaks. Problem solve. . I had them installed by myself since 2015. I still have the Saturn outlook.... Same as GMC Acadia.

WHAT IS THE IMPORTANCE OF THE RUBBER ON THE TOP GUIDE PIN?
@melanieinsaskatchewan79642 жыл бұрын
It's a dust boot. Keeps brake dust and road dirt from abrading the slide pins. Just like the CV joint.

When do you bleed the brakes?
@MichelLinschoten3 жыл бұрын
You don't need to
@1AAuto3 жыл бұрын
+Roy McCloud Thanks for watching! You typically will only bleed the system when you are changing out fluid. When the fluid is dirty it has contaminants and air trapped in the system, so it needs to be bled.
@onemoreboat3 жыл бұрын
@@1AAuto If you are compressing the pistons back in, why not open the bleed valve and get that old brake fluid out of the caliper rather then push the old fluid up through the anti-lock brake module?

I have 1996 Explorer 154000 miles , working perfect, few days ago the car would not start in the morning, jump the battery then everything work all day and night , the next morning the battery would not work can't start the car , after jumping the car I check battery it is good I checked the Alternator it is working fine [ it is 4 months old] I noticed the battery light on dash board do not come on at all when starting the car, all lights come on and turn off on the dashboard but not the battery light. One night I unhook the negative [black wire] from battery and connect in the morning the car started fine. It looks like I have short somewhere which is draining the battery overnight . Please help with any suggestion how to fix the battery light so it will come on and off and how to check for electrical shortening which is draining the battery . Zack THANKS.....................

Can you imagine the guy that thought up the rotor hold down screw? Somebody decided to pay some engineers to develop the system of screw/rotor/hub connection with the sole purpose to hold the rotor in place during assembly. All to avoid using a single lug nut that would do the same thing. Car mamafacturers are the worst....
