This is a good video, but it really isn’t necessary to remove the snorkel or the belt. In fact, you don’t really even need to remove the hoses. The access is so good on this truck that all you have to do is unscrew the two bolts in the thermostat housing, pull it back and put in a new thermostat. It takes about five minutes.

Thanks for the instructive video. Followed it step-by-step (ignored the belt removal though), and got the job done in no time. I replaced my thermostat because my gauge needle is not exactly on 210 but showing around 213-215 when engine is warm, every so often it’d increase to about 220 especially when stuck in traffic. I guess my thermostat wasn’t the faulty guy. Could it be my pump that’s going bad? Thanks.

I did this repair to my 2008 suburban temperature stays at 210 wich seems to be the normal temp for these suvs I don’t have any problems but My lower radiator stays cold after hours of driving around is this normal? Top hose is hot heater blows hot I would assume the lower hose would be hot too but it’s cold to the touch

You most likely have air in the system. Both hoses should be hot, if not you have a circulation issue.

You installed the thermostat incorrectly. The jiggle pin should be aligned with the 12o'clock mark on the housing, not with the notch in the gasket.

One problem is your car heat won't work until you start driving. This can be a problem cause by the thermostat. My truck had this problem and also would run hot while warming my car up during the winter months. Changing my thermostat fixed the issue.

The seals never go in that easy you're almost better off throwing the thermostat into the housing and then throwing the gasket over top of it. I've never seen one go in that easy before unless they've shaved it with a razor

No need to take the serpentine belt off. Take the air box hose off and the upper radiator hose. Then two bolts that hold the housing on. Swap thermostat. Reinstall housing, put hose back on, reinstall air box hose. Bleed cooling system. Easy peasy.
