utilizing “new technology” like adding a neodmndym magnet inside the pan makes a HUGE difference!! new fluid cleans, and those micro steel particles floating around in the high pressure fluid can settle in some very bad places. the super magnet catches absolutely everything, and it will never break free and accumulate anywhere. the metal paste will go right past any filter + it keeps the filter and flow free. use a 1 x 3/4 x 1/4 magnet

I had an older F150 that was doing exact same thing to me and the problem was associated with the odometer that wasn't working at the beginning of the video and the main problem was the ignition switch ( the key hole) it was dirty. I fix it with same WD40 never happened again for a more then a year until I sold the truck.

I bought a 2012 2500 HD silverado 97thou miles ran and shifted fine brought my scanner everything looks good so I said I am going to take it to my mechanic took it home and dropped the trans pan, and it was really clean just a tiny bit of metal at the magnet and the trans fluid was not new, and the gasket is re-usable, so I had stopped and picked up filter and fluid put the knew in and when I went back bought the truck for $14,500 to pull my 35'6" camper pulls it like a charm its a 3rd vehicle for me, so I drive it like once a week or plow my driveway when needed. PS this truck sucks the gas with a 6.2L with 410 gears in the rear as I am retired I bounce around town in my Versa 2009 that I put 10 bucks in every 2 weeks.

I have the same truck 2010 4.8 4x4 Silverado. Also shifts sloppy every once ‘n awhile. Did a trans flush and filter change, made it shift much faster but now the occasional odd shift is hard and fast rather than slower and sloppy. One thing I think contributes to transmission wear on these trucks is the poor quality engine, transmission, and transfer case mounts. They where all trashed when I bought mine at 75k miles and all have been since replaced but before they where replaced, the truck lurched and jolted a lot when coming on or off the gas.

I have a 2018 Silverado and it does the same thing. You just have to hit a certain speed at the right incline and it clunks. Just happens it is just as I leave my house. Never does it anywhere else.
@anthonymacneil22793 жыл бұрын
According to GM it's normal for them to clunk🙄. Have a 2017 with 8 speed and the only way I got rid is with Trifecta tune and Amsoil ATF since new.

Have a 2008 5.3 Sierra and 1st to 2nd it clunked sometimes and the tryan left 2 months ago and I out a 50k miles transmission and 2k miles later and no clunks
@dcsteve78693 жыл бұрын
Check GM TSB 16-NA-175 . The factory Dexron VI fluid wasn't really good for this application and it causes converter shutter and poor shift quality. Flushing the transmission with Mobil 1 LV HP synthetic fluid and a retune usually fixes that problem. The factory retune usually fixes this but as stated Trifecta makes a really good aftermarket tune for these that gives you better performance.
@brucegaskill12363 жыл бұрын
DC.- Thanks but I went with the six speed just because the 8 was experiencing early troubles. I will be keeping an eye on it. It does fall under a bad rear diff concern. Several from Mexico had been adjusted improperly at the factory. Still have a year left under warranty.
@dcsteve78693 жыл бұрын
@@brucegaskill1236 yeah that's just shims though. On your next diff service inspect it for improper wear pattern on the ring gear. If it looks good your probably okay, but if it's not you may be able to catch it in time and just have it readjusted. Saves $$$$. Good luck out there bro

Temps running higher on the silverado needs a thermostat. Also something to take into account it could be a bad ujoint if he's shifting from reverse to a gear.

Love your show Scotty I think this may have been one of the best you've done you explained in detail about the transmission and about how the computers view the cars and their function what starts to come to my mind after watching a couple of these two computers now may not always tell the truth about how the car really is this is either controlled by the manufacturer in the way they build the computers or the fact that sometimes sensors aren't even read because the parameters are too wide but thanks again this is an excellent video

My 2011 Silverado will sometimes down shift from 2nd to 1st at an odd time rounding a turn or something and it can be a bit rough. I’ve owned it since 2014 and it has done it the entire time. I think it’s just how they were designed.

I've had a 2005 four wheel drive 1500 Chevy truck that shifted really hard so bad it hurt my back on flat ground didn't matter on flat ground up hill shifted really hard . I always put true dual exhaust on my trucks . And after I did that it shifted smooth as could be very nice smooth . The Y exhaust and the muffler had so much back pressure in it that it cause the shift to slam into gear but after I put dual exhaust with two glass packs like I said it shift like a dream . So you might look into that also
@erosmontesinos96463 жыл бұрын
Hey scotty if you find the problem please tell us because that happened to my dads Land Rover and it would happen in hot days in the cold the transmission would shift smoothly

Mine always runs at that same indicated temp. I think the gauge actually just shows cold/normal/hot. They just put the numbers on it to make it look more realistic and “truck like” rather than C and H

My family and I must be really luck when it comes to GM trucks/SUV's (Tahoe's-Yukons). I have owned a 03 silverado 2500/05 GMC 2500/06 Silverado (148,000before I sold it) and currently 2018 silverado-Wife 2003Tahoe/2006 Tahoe (head on collision in 2011 saved her life-totaled) now a 2016 Yukon. Only real issue was water pump on 03 Tahoe went out with 68k, freak thing. Otherwise I have had no major or expensive problems with any of our GM's. 90% family (cattle ranchers/blue collar peeps) own Silverados/Tahoes, never any major issues, super reliable with many miles. I hear Scotty (love you bro) slam GM, however, the trucks and SUV's with the 5.7's and 5.3's will run for 200k plus k miles and still purr. Change your oil q5k!!

IDK if I'd say the transmission is the weak link though. In my case, I spent the first 100k miles towing trailers, and the transmission is probably the only good thing that still worked in my truck when I sold it. Fluid was always changed every 60k-70k, heck even the radio burned out before anything else did. Window motor switch burned out. Had an issue where one headlight kept burning out once per year. But the 6-speed transmission at least is a good transmission and can last a long time. Not sure on the 4-speed which that truck probably had, as I think the 4.8L with the 4 speed was standard equipment on the crew cab work trucks. the 5.3L with the 6-speed was an option for the extended and crew cabs (but standard on the LTZ trim level I believe). (Actaully if you got the 5.3L I think you had to get the 6-speed trans). The one thing I did notice with mine is that as the truck aged, things sort of loosened up a bit. Not the transmission, but obviously GM's engines in that era (other than the 6.2L and the 4.3L) were not that great. The 5.3L was probably the worst of the bunch as it had AFM. Some of the later 4.8L's had AFM (i believe they started making it standard on the 2012-2013 model years with AFM on the 5.3 and 4.8). But honestly, I never had problems with my transmission (not saying they're perfect, but everyone I've talked to has said to get the 6-speed... it's more reliable, get s better gas mileage, and lasts longer). Your really gambling, though, with the transmission and an engine rebuild. The lifters (if it has afm) can get stuck without notice and the only proper way to it is to replace them -- there is a procedure to pop them back up, but they'll most likely collapse again. I haven't heard too many bad things about the transmissions in those trucks though. The engines, yeah, I've heard a lot especially the 5.3L like I had. Just go check out some Silverado forums if you don't believe me. Either way, both are expensive repairs (a full lifter job is about $3500--about the same price as a used transmission). But honestly, I lucked out. I sold mine before anything major went wrong (the exhaust manifold bolts did break, but got those fixed for $400). But it's too much of a gamble that I wouldn't buy another one of these trucks (unless it was the standard cab, 2WD with the V6 4.3L engine, which doesn't have AFM). That would be the only Silverado from this era that I would buy.
