Glad you mentioned the heater hoses. Any of the 99-13 chevy trucks have that as a decently common problem with the plastic connectors breaking and then losing all coolant. Another one I personally wanted to mention is if that little ground strap didn’t fix weird electrical issuesI’d try the battery cables. Pretty common for the positive and negative cables to corrode internally and cause the whole vehicle electrical system to go haywire (door locks opening and closing while driving, radio completely shutting off and turning back on, gauge cluster going to resting position while vehicle is on, etc).

Also to add on to the top issues with the GM trucks those years with the AFM (Active Fuel Management) is the lifters on the cylinders that shut off during the 4 cylinder mode (1, 4, 6, and 7) collapsing. If your truck is misfiring really bad on one of those cylinders be ready to pull the head and replace lifters. Happened on my father's 09 GMC 1500 Z71 with the 5.3L and 247k miles

The best thing you can do to any vehicle that's up there in mileage is keep changing that oil every 5k kilometers or 3k miles on a GM flush coolant every 2 years the rest is just maintenance really... spark plugs every 4 years or so differential oil change every 2 years transmission oil starts to smell burnt flush it out... GM trucks are the best in the business follow these steps and your GM truck or car will last a long time
@twwtb2 жыл бұрын
If the main ground strap is ok and you still have weird electrical issues, there are several other ground straps around the vehicle that should be checked, especially if the truck has spent much time in the salt belt. My 2013 calls for dexos specified oil which I think automatically puts you in the synthetic camp and there is an oil life indicator in the driver information system that can help if it was appropriately reset at the last change. Mine is running good with 170k miles. Got the big 4.8 with the 4-speed ottermatic. I bought it recently and am currently doing plugs, wires, air filter, hoses and a few other "catch-up" items since I don't have a full history on it.

So far I've had to replace the throttle body, Bank 1 downstream sensor, throttle position sensor, and the dashboard plastic (got a huge crack going across the whole thing.) Things I haven't replaced are some interior trim pieces that have just kinda come "loose" but not in such a way they make noise so it's not anything I prioritize. Today I got a code for the bank 1 sensor 1 O2 sensor, so I guess I'll be replacing that. Thus far the engine and transmission have been rock solid as far as their performance.

I bought a 2012 April of last year. When I buy a used vehicle, I always change all fluids front to back even the gear oil in front and back differentials. The truck takes 6 quarts of full synthetic 5w30 oil. Here's what happened to me one day.... In January my family and I were coming home from taking my son to the doctor when the check engine light came on. I got the truck home (Thank God) hooked it up to my OBDII scanner and it wash the oil pressure sensor. I was going to replace it but a guy on here told me to check my oil first. When I checked it, the dipstick didn't have a drop of oil on it. (I FLIPPED OUT) I just paid $18K on this truck! So, I went ahead and ordered both valve covers because I wanted both of them to be clean and to also match one another. I've installed both of them, but I've not checked to see if it worked because after installing them the passenger side pcv outlet on the new one has a flared end on it and the original didn't have that. So, I went to Advanced Auto to buy a rubber hose to use on it after I cut the pressure clip off of the pcv hose. I also decided to get me and new gas cap while I was at it. Anyways, I hope and pray that the new valve covers help the "Oil Consumption Problem." I'm sort of worried about it though because that's a lot of oil being consumed in just 4,000 - 4,500 miles. Yes, I've also checked for leaks and there were none. I've seen vehicles that are burning oil, but this truck doesn't do like that. The only time I've seen blue smoke out of the exhaust pipe is when climbing a hill, but it's just a small amount and then it's gone. If you were not paying attention to it, you wouldn't notice it. I've also checked my antifreeze for oil to and if good. Another thing, after I change the oil the dipstick doesn't read right which has me stumped. It should be on the full area, but it shows as if I put 12 quarts instead of 6. I'm thinking it got the wrong dipstick in it, but if anyone knows something different let me know

Recommended Fix replacement of heater control stack in middle of dash, Very Expensive, and this truck only had 81,000 Miles. Now under the spare tire attached to bed is a black box some have 4-6 large brass looking connectors and when salt and water corrode them it causes it to send false messages throughout the truck and computer sends false codes. Like Bad fuel pump and a host of other things, little black box and connectors very Expensive and after replacing dealership has Reprogram everything. Very Expensive.

Removed solenoids replaced top of motor deleting program. Now I have a good running truck. Not burning oil. Also no hesitation to turn on cylinder fire when pulling into traffic. Cylinder delete is a terrible idea. Its for emissions but once you start burning oil not very good for emissions.

06 is better. 08 probably needs Active Fuel Management lifters replaced soon.

Can you put DOT4 fluid with the existing DOT3? Or will that cause issues?
@HackHunter18353 жыл бұрын
Yes you can mix them. Dot 4 is a better version of dot3 (higher boiling point)

My 09 5.3L doesn't have a dip stick for the trans. So what do I do.

I thought this was going to be issues specific to this vehicle itself, but this is literally just basic maintenance. Doesn't say anything about this car that you don't have to do for basically almost every other vehicle on the road

You missed so many things. That's just routine inspection everyone should do before buying a used car. If you want to be specific, brake petal switch, electric window switches (all doors), steering angle sensors, evap solenoid (P0446), extended cab rear door latches, lifters for AFM (if equiped), 4 wheel drive engagement (if equiped), just to name a few specific to this year range.
