I never missed an oil change, and the mechanic I took my car to said it has a collapsed engine valve. Personally I feel like that diagnosis is wrong. I'm wondering if she might have meant the PVC valve. Seems like a better match to me. Car shaking, lack of power, and engine stalling. Oh and misfiring! That or some other pressure issue. My usual mechanic is booked for 2 weeks and I'm scared to drive it with the stalling and power issues. Anyone on here feel like guessing? 😅

Water pump, cv axle and quit racing around so hard on the poor car.
@azaz911c3 жыл бұрын
Shaking when braking may be warped front disc rotors or worn rear brake drums. If they aren't too worn, the rotors or drums can be machined for smoothness. If they are too worn, they can be replaced. The clicking noise when turning, is likely a worn CV joint. This can be fixed with by replacing with a new CV axle. I recommend replacing both sides and choosing an original Toyota or high quality replacement part. Lower quality ones don't last and lead to other problems like vibrations. None of these parts is too expensive, but there is some labor cost involved. I'm not sure about the pulley noise. You may want to start with a simple visual check that your accessory belt is not frayed or cracked and has good tension. As someone else suggested it might be a water pump. Or it could be a worn pulley bearing.
@boolin013 жыл бұрын

The water pump and alternator should be up on this list ! With the starter going bad had all three replaced early in it's life for a Toyota. Would expect this from an American made car, but sorely disappointed in a Toyota product and Denso for these failures. After all this is why we pay premium prices to purchase Toyota products.

I will only drive Toyota’s and Honda’s. When I drove Ford Chevy or dodge I always had issues n always in the shop. I have seen Honda n Toyota get well over 400,000 miles and they still run. Just depends on how you drive the car and the maintenance you do on it

The only issue I've run into is ignition coils going out, a slight oil leak from chain tensioner gasket on the back of the engine and one that I have not been able to fix that is my idol jumps around a little while the ac is on (jumps around between 600 to 1000 rpm)
@davidhoulden57914 жыл бұрын
Interesting. I have a 2009 with 250k and haven't had these issues....yet. I have replaced the water pump and I understand that is pretty common. Also being an 09 it burns oil, a quart or so every 3000 miles so not so bad. The PCV valve is under the intake manifold so that is a way more work to replace than it should be. Otherwise a great car.

Just a reminder, I never have to replace the window regulator. Use a WD-40 dry lubricant on the window trak. The track gets dirty and starts to stick, and that's bad. So remember, dry silicone wd4😂0. Don't be shy with it. You want to get the hole track. Wipe off, the paint, it won't hurt it. That's it. I hope this helps peice out.... Oh one other thing before adding into track use a Qtip to clean the track 1st," then apply, later....

You should drop the pan, replace the filter, and then add new oil. Treat it as an oil change. Don’t flush it, just add what you lost.

So funny I haven’t had any of those issues on my 2010 with 242k. Only repairs I’ve ever done were a wheel speed sensor, the timing chain tensioner gasket (oil leak), and changing out the radio because the factory one would go on the Frits sometimes. Amazing car

My '09 Corolla driver's side door window will leave water streaks on the outside after a car wash. I use a squeegee after washing it and if I were to raise/lower the window, it will leave a streak. I replaced the window/door seal but made no difference. I used silicone on the window/door seal and still no difference. Could this be due to possibly a few bolts/nuts are loose on window regulator causing this issue?

I take my 2010 Corolla off-road regularly, currently up to 150,000 miles. It gets some strange looks from the truck bros, lol people forget lifted sedans are just as capable of moderate off-road driving. I have a lift so the ground clearance is 7" and unlike y'all's trucks, mine gets an average gas mileage of 36mpg - 43mpg.

The VVT-i gear on these models also has a known issue, there was a Technical Bulletin released. Basically the locking pin fails and so on a cold start when there's no oil pressure, the VVT will rattle and cause irregular valve timing. Sounds like a really rough cold start, but fine when driving/starting warm. If not taken care of will eventually rattle itself to death, potentially blowing the engine. Can be fixed without dropping the engine, but is still a quite involved, expensive fix. If doing it, you might as well look at replacing the timing chain and guides, and potentially the water pump too.

Corrosion ... both front fenders get gunk trapped behind them near the wheel well behind those foam backing pieces... stuff sits there and holds moisture, eventually mine rotted out from the inside out...also make sure your doors drain correctly and hit them with some kind of rust proofing.... I've seen many doors that rust from the inside out where the seam seals are.... i have a 2009 corrolla 150k km on it, but it's getting close to the end due to corrosion
