I'm a retired ASE master, My wife has a 2007 CRV that was bought new, this vehicle has never given us a single problem until about a year ago the A/C became intermittent. When I retired I promised to never touch a car again. After a repair shop relieved us of 1200.00 for an A/C evaporator, I decided to diag and repair myself. After replacing underhood relays, a lot of internet research told me I needed to replace the compressor. At 68, replacing the compressor was a real chore, but I refuse to let a shop tell me, "We only use HONDA parts", I was not going to pay 800 bucks for a compressor, I'm no idiot, I know the shop charges me for a dealer compressor, then they pay 299.00 for compressor from a local parts store. I bought a new compressor off of Amazon for 194.00, I still have all of my gauges, vacuum pump and other required tools. I spent more time getting the belt off and on than I did replacing the compressor. Now, everything's cool. The CRV has just turned 100k. The only thing I hate is the vehicle is so loud, carrying on a conversation at highway speeds is like having all the windows down. I hate to take trips in it. My Kia is quieter than a library. This year the CRV will be leaving us for something newer. I hope I get a good amount for trade in.---------------Thanks for informative video.

I just bought a 2009 164,000 mile CR-V for my daughter. Pristine condition, but I have dropped $3000 into it already. It wouldn't start one day, ruled out the battery and alternator. Figured it was the starter, notice the starter was already brand new. I am guessing the previous owner replaced it when the real problem was the engine program module. The garage replaced the starter too. AC quit working but it was only the replay. The rack and pinion has a slight leak. I put in some stop leak and it works perfectly. Used cars, even Hondas, need work.

We used to have a 2019 CR-V. After about one year of less-than-usual use, the vehicle would not start. Towed it the local Honda dealer. They started right up. And we were able to start it up there. After coming home, we shut the engine down and tried to start again. After going back and for numerous times and a month less, and after experiencing the so-called service attitude, we towed it to the dealer, amazingly it started there again. We then kept it running for a few hours and traded it in to another Honda vehicle. Less than a month later we traded that newer Honda vehicle in for a different brand name vehicle and swore we would never buy a Honda again. We know Honda survives without us, and we also learned we can go about without Honda.

Mine had non of these. Most common thing I change are the sway bar ends and bushings (few dollars each). I guess they suffer a lot. I had the winding noise from the gearbox. It was the broken cement on the main shaft making the noise. Replaced the gearbox with the used one (in total few in the whole Europe). Clutch fins can go on the AC compressor cause they are very thin. Fixed those and that is all in past 7 years. Very reliable machine.
@MrD50boy3 жыл бұрын
You didn’t mention the saggy suspension springs or door lock actuators that will go out. The AC problem is usually just the AC clutch. Shops will usually want to do the whole compressor because it’s an expensive job.

Have a 2010 AWD. Bought at 140,000kms. Now has 200,000kms. Had to replace an AC compressor not long after I bought it. That sucked. My power steering works fine but the pump howls under acceleration. Replaced a belt tensioner. Blower motor did intermittently stop working a few times but the problem hasn't come back since it started doing it about 1 year ago. After 4 years of ownership, not too bad. But still doesn't compare to a Toyota. Honda quality has slid. I've owned many of both and the quality shows. The Honda's are no bad car by any stretch. But if I were buying again, rather get the RAV4. I hate how the CRV drives. Seriously not enough power. I do like the Honda's features and interiors a lot more than the incredibly boring Toyota though. I huge reason why I chose the Honda this time. But for full out reliability, the Toyota is simply the better choice.
@dylanowens31732 жыл бұрын
There's a lot missing of major stuff that breaks on these. 1. The starters are a pain 2. The drive shafts especially the awd. If you have shakes while driving it's most likely drive shafts. Can be expensive even diy as you'll probably want new, not junk yard. 3. Door harnesses wear out where the driver side electronics won't work. It's a pain to replace. 4. Yes still infamous Honda transmission problems. Many can limp to 200k if baby them, but beyond that you are on borrowed time. 5. Honda engine valve adjustment are just fact of life. Need learn do it or get scheduled. 6. Make sure stay up on timing belt changes, or if buying one know when it's needed or been done. If not it's a future scrap yard car when timing belt breaks. 7. Ball joints, control arm wear out constantly and make noises. Best learn do them yourself save $$$

How about the issue with this generation burning oil up around 80k miles? This is the generation listed under 'years to avoid' for the CRV if you google it. Honda/Toyota owners (I've owned both) tend to have 'brand-loyalty-blinders' on sometimes. This is what keeps the prices so high.
@1HughGRection4U3 жыл бұрын
Mine has none of these issues however it does have a bad alternator at almost 200k miles as well as a vibration when accelerating that turned out to be a bad cv bearing. The alternator is random but the cv joint seems to be common and I find odd not to have made this top 5 list. I would think a recall on the cv joint issue but so far no such luck as it is a pain in the ass for the diy kinda guy like myself. Better to bite the bullet and have the whole axle replaced. $75 for the part, labor is all over the place so shop around on this one.

I did that on a honda crv and honda fit, and it worked.

Any ideas what that is? Ive heard that on many other 3rd gen crvs Replaced trans oil with honda dw1 oil as well as the trans filter and still makes the noise. Doesnt affect anything, its just annoying

The A/C in these cars has got to be among the most poorly designed air systems in the history of Honda. I've been driving my 2008 CR-V for five and a half years, and in that time I have had to fix the A/C almost every summer. Three new compressors have been put into it, a new evaporator has been installed, and the O-ring has been replaced. Four mechanics have tried their hand at fixing the A/C permanently for me. And yet, here I am, $1500 spent in the last four weeks, and the A/C has died AGAIN. Now I'm looking for new cars even though it has 150K miles and I had hoped, when I bought it years ago, that it'd be one I could keep for many, many years until well past 200K. I wouldn't recommend this model Honda to anyone.

Rear suspension attachment points on the unit body / floorpans rot out, especially on the passenger side in the rustbelt. Canada got a recall. US got diddly. It's cool tho, thats how I got one with 113,000 miles for $400. I got a MIG welder. Should make a fine winter beater.

Accurate, I had to change out the door lock cylinder, A/C compressor, module for switching between hot and cold air, and starter around 120ish miles give and take a few thousand miles. Other than that, solid car.

This is helpful. I have a 2007 and have been replacing things (AC compressor, starter, some other issues not mentioned here that seem rare) and have around 180,000 miles. I was thinking I needed to start looking for a new car, but sounds like this can last a lot longer...? Maybe another 100k?

My 2007 CR-V has 190K miles on it. The auto locks on the doors are also prone to go bad- I had two replaced already. A/C, starter, alternator were also replaced. I'd rather pay $800 in repairs maybe once a year, than pay $800/month on a newer car!

Okay I got a 2011 with about 250 k and my daughter got a 2009 with similar mileage. Both had to have starters done. My daughter’s has had problems with headlights fogging over which we did the headlight treatments 4-5 times in 5 years I just ordered aftermarket projector headlights for 300 bucks cause I’m tired of once a year doing the headlight treatments. Those I’ll put on about a week and half. Over all been good rigs. However I wouldn’t order a new crv due to the cvt. If I was to order a new Honda I would either go passport or pilot my wife got a pilot and odyssey. I’m debating in next two or three years retiring my crv Either driving the odyssey she put in reserve when her pilot gets oil changed or service or order a passport😊

So please, can you tell me exactly where the problem is? The pump or the rack !! The pump liquid level is normal. The pressure hose is good
