Honda CRV 3rd Gen 2007-2011 Headlamp projector beam upgrade.

Hello everyone.. in this video I replace my stock headlamps… which I had installed super bright LED bulbs, to a beautiful projector beam unit with a LED strip park light. These units are marketed as the LED strip as the daytime running lights, but really are not.

My daughter has a 2009 Honda crv she’s had it for 4 years now the headlights continued to “fog up” . We did the lens cleaner method three times in four years. Then I finally got mad and order “preloaded” projector headlights. Meaning they ship with the bulbs already in the assembly. She drives a lot at night and I promised her(last time) if the headlights would film/fog over I’d do something more long term. The new headlights are scheduled to arrive this Friday and about a week later I will install them on her CRV.

I did the same thing to my 2008, Really happy I did it. The only thing I didn't do was up grade the lamps, I hate those lamps .they really blind the other driver. Stop telling people to upgrade their lamps. When a driver comes behind me with those lamps, I slow down till he goes around me. They should be again't the law.

You put in the same projector beams as I did? They’re great. I did upgrade the bulbs, but not with LEDs, but with halogens. With this setup I don’t blind anyone now. Before I did this I had LEDs in the stock housings… that was a disaster. I was blinding everyone! It was horrible. Thanks for your support! 👊🏼

Thanks for the sub! 👊🏼 It sounds like the LED bulbs burnt out. Check the headlight fuse too in the under hood relay/fuse box.

Hi again Nick! I was probably criticizing your music to much below, but wanted to say how good your video was again. You explained the installation process really well and thankfully gave all of us good information how LED bulbs work with their side by side elements, vs the more common halogen bulbs. I am installing the same kind of upgraded headlights with the DRL light bar on the top. Was really surprised though that the DRL lights on the top would not work automatically but after thinking about the design of the new headlight, it makes sends that we have to turn on the light switch to make them work like a DRL. Here is the important question. Do the new projector headlights work better than the LED bulb conversion that you did with the H4? I did the same thing and that simple upgrade was better than the original. The new headlights definitely will make the car look better but are they brighter at night with the stronger halogen bulbs you installed? Thanks and let us know. Tim in Colorado

Hey Tim, no worries on the music thing 😁 As far as the halogen bulbs ( I’m using the upgraded Silver Star) with the projector beams it’s night and day over the H4 LED upgrade with the stock headlamp housings. The LEDs with the projector beams you think they would be good right? Wrong. They don’t emit that desirable beam pattern that a good halogen does with the projectors. In fact as much as I love LED bulbs on every other system… brake/tail/turn and interior (check my vids I have 2 vids on LED bulbs for those systems I’m using AUXITO and I have a 15% off discount code!) I don’t like them for headlights only if they’re factory. With that being said I’m soon going to be working on an HID video for my CRV with my projectors. You see HID (IMO) for an aftermarket upgrade over halogen is my preferred upgrade, not LED for headlights. So stay tuned for that and check out the LED videos. And I’m sure you’ll love the new projectors w/LED strip as my as I do! Thanks for your support Tim!! 👊🏼 Oh and yes they’re brighter and better visibility at night!

Thanks for your comment. Yes.. they are definitely improved. Fantastic set of headlamps. Big improvement over stock. Definitely recommend them. No I’m not getting flashed anymore. So far bulbs are working great. I’m planning a HID upgrade in the future. Stay tuned!

Great video! I replaced my stock headlights with aftermarket lights similar to these, the low beams are good but when I hit the high beams I get the right side lit like a ball and almost nothing on the left. Would it be better to just replace these with something like yours? I live out in the country and it gets DARK at night. The stock lights got that haze and I had them buffed clear a couple of times but wanted new light, and the dealer wants $1000 bucks just for the lights! It's a 2007 and otherwise in great shape. She only has 159,000 original miles on her, had her new since 07. Thoughts?

Curious, why didn't you go with H1 LED lights? I imagine you would get a brighter output along with a clean line with the headlight upgrade. Looking to do these headlights for the same car for someone.

The led bulbs won’t give you a straight beam of light. The led’s have chips on either side and you can see that in the light output. The halogens and HID’s will give you the best outputs and beam projections. I’m going to do an HID upgrade this winter for the H1s. Thanks for your input and support! 👊🏼

My daughter has a 2009 crv we have had to do 4 headlight treatments . I got upset and replace the whole headlight assembly . I had it narrowed between projectors and led bulbs. I finally went projector preloaded headlights for two reasons. Why the time you buy a aftermarket headlight and good LEDs it was within 10-15 bucks of a projector set pre loaded. The preloaded easier you unhook the headlight assembly hook up all you electrical bolt everything up your going. 2nd reason I personally went projector vs LED I like the look of projector better than LED

im sure as a mechanic you didnt overlook this but is it possible the bulbs were upside down? i put beamtech leds into my crv a few years ago and when i turned them on the first time one of the beams was sitting higher than the other. i rotated the bulb and it was even with the other and i never get flashed by other drivers.

Every LED I’ve seen are cut exactly the same. Using LEDs with headlight dispersion housings will cause scattering light in my research. I’m not going back to LEDs. This setup works fantastic. I don't know of ANY LED bulbs put into a reflector type headlight housing that doesn't scatter light (meaning blinding traffic) the reason is because of the position of the LED emitter not in the EXACT same position as the original halogen bulb. Reflector headlights are produced with exacting standards to allow halogen bulbs to project their output to very precise area inside the headlight LED bulbs DO NOT place light output in the same location as halogen bulbs. Think of it as a comparison between a camera that is "in focus" to a out of focus picture. DON'T PUT LED's IN HALOGEN HOUSINGS...unless you enjoy getting flashed constantly and people thinking you're a asshole. Most all of the LED replacement bulbs come from China there are NO standards, NONE are DOT approved, it's the Wild West when it comes to these LED's, they should be outlawed, specifically the LED bulbs being sold as replacement for halogen bulbs NOT the auto manufactures that are putting LED headlight "assemblies in their newer cars and trucks.

This outrages me. You say the new headlight housings use H-1 aren't they single filament bulbs? So how do you get high beam? I saw them kind of flash when you activated "high beams" but they didn't look any different after clicking high beams on, what's going on there?

If you look at the bulb he has at 10:26 , it's missing the low-beam cup that the 9003 bulb needs which is why the outdoor shot showed some crazy scattering almost like a high-beam. For things like LED replacements, it's really important to look for bulbs designed to be as similar to the original halogen bulb as possible because of the factors you mentioned. There are plenty of shitty Chinese bulbs that have weird multi-sided designs, incorrectly sized LED chips, or poorly designed like the one in this video, that both perform terribly and blind other drivers. If you're interested in seeing what makes a good LED bulb, this video is the best explanation I've seen: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fIHGdmCcjK2grdk . I was very skeptical of these too until I bought myself a pair of mid-priced Hikari Ultrafocus 9003 bulbs just to try and return if they were terrible. If you care to look, they have the same low-beam cup and the LED chips are very small and arranged to match the location of the halogen filament, including the thickness of the PCB itself. To my surprise, the low-beam cutoff line in my 2010 CR-V was spot on with the old bulbs but threw much more light down the road even without adjustment. I even took another car to see if they were blinding and they weren't. The fact is, your specific headlight and the LED bulb you buy have a major impact on how they perform and unfortunately not many drivers on the road care enough to do their due diligence and just see them as easy drop-in replacements. I absolutely agree with you that it's the wild west and for every 9 cars with decent LED replacements, there's 1 blinding the other 9. Until they can regulate them and ensure all replacements perform to a certain threshold, they shouldn't be sold at all regardless of how well some may perform.

Yes the H1 is single filament, the ballast I showed in the video with the red and blue wires handles the voltage/amps output for the high beams.

Really? It’s been 2 years since I installed them and made subsequent videos on them and they’re still going strong and looking great.
