depending on how you define "star". Large scale commercial success has to do with the genre you play, look at john mayer. If you decide to play 60s/70s music, nothing wrong with it but you are definitely limiting your potential fan base.

THIS GUY IS INSANE!! I don't give a shit if he's an 'SRV duplicate' - who fucking cares the man is on fire and is playing blues rock better than anyone in this day and age. The world needs to know more about Philip Sayce. Mark my words, this is only the beginning.

SRV was an influence, but this cat pays more homage and nods to Jeff Healey who was one of his bigger idols. He even toured with Jeff for a while. He's far from an SRV duplicate. Like SRV before him, Phillip does what those before him did, he just does it HIS way, and like Stevie its amazing. Nobody will ever duplicate Stevie. There was only one. There will never be another.

@@66HM5 Jeff was such an amazing player. Ive met him a few times around Toronto. Theres a spot just outside the city where he had a blues bar. He used to sit on the back of a golf cart, playing his trumpet while being driven around, just talking to people. I still watch that video of himself playing with SRV nearly everyday.

Hendrix or SRV? SRV shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence as Hendrix.
@vzeller2 жыл бұрын
That's like saying it's annoying that basketball players are influenced by Michael Jordan. Who else do you expect the influence to come from if you want to play blues? You are pretty limited with the pentatonic scale so the only place to go is to a place that's already been gone to many times by the best players. It's objectively impossible to completely do your own thing after something has been around for so long. It's like electric cars, every new version will have some influence from Tesla. What's really annoying is that everyone on the internet has to judge everything like an Olympic sport to validate their own existence and try and be relevant, instead of just consuming Entertainment. Everyone has to judge it now so they can make it about their self proclaimed brilliant insight instead of letting it be about the entertainer. Everyone thinks they are an infallible authority.

Joe is a complete artist and offers something completely different to SRV imitators like this guy. He writes amazing songs and - crucially - he always knows when to rein it in. He knows the importance of nuance. You can always hear the space between the notes. Strange observation to make, I know, but it's important. He captures mood better than almost any other guitarist I can think of. The solo on The Last Matador of Bayonne is thing of utter beauty. It's an understated masterpiece. JB is a monster guitarist and probably the best blues rock guitarist out there, whereas Sayce feels more like an exceptionally gifted SRV tribute act.
