Never taken physics before? Want to learn the basics of physics? Need an AP Physics 1 review before the exam? This course is for you!
Exercises in this video:
PROBLEM 1
A girl is riding her bike with a constant velocity of 10 m/s. How far has she gone after 7 seconds? Graph her motion both in x vs t, and v vs. t. Show her displacement on both graphs.
PROBLEM 2
A driver is driving at a constant velocity of 20 m/s. She steps on the gas at t=0 and accelerates to 30 m/s with constant acceleration. It took her 4 seconds to accelerate. How far did she go in those 4 seconds? Graph her motion on a v vs t graph and show the displacement on that graph.
PROBLEM 3
A biker, biking at 10 m/s hits a tree and comes to a complete stop. Assuming a helmet “crumple zone” of 10 cm, what is the minimum acceleration her head could undergo? How many “g”s is that?

@@Luffy61C4 In calculus, when we integrate we have to add a +C at the end of every problem. Integration is the oposite of a derivative, and a derivative is the slope of a curve. So when you're integrating, you're trying to effectively find the original graph while only knowing the slope at any point. That means that the curves/shape of the graph, will be right, but you might not have the right y-value for any point, forgetting the +C would mean you're assuming a specific y-value which is wrong and bad.

I discovered this channel when I was in eight grade and loved it ever since. from watching the 101 things to do with a physics degree, i decided to have one too and now I am on my second year in applied physics in college! The explanations are simple yet elegantly presented here that I felt that excitement when she finally puts it all together for the equation of motion like its my first time knowing it hahaha. Dianna, So much to think about with this one episode. Physics the study of everything! I was in my office one day and a bird struck the window and fell to the ground. Outloud I wondered what force the poor bird experienced? A good friend Steve Kaye, came over and said we could figure that out? So he began to write a formula on my whiteboard and we figured it out. From that day on I realized that Physics was the most amazing science and very practical. Thank you for this first class. You are so amazing. I hope your injuries heal quickly.

Thank you for making this series! I’m not a physicist, but I love physics and have wanted to understand it better. I have always loved it when equations were broken down and explained. So much so that I had a lot of trouble when teachers switched to rote memorization without any explanation. They’d say, “Plug these numbers into this equation.” “Okay, but why?” “Because I said so.” 😳 Thank you for bringing back the fun of physics in a way that regular people can understand. Your enthusiasm is contagious. I love it! 😆

I'm a Physics Teacher and I have shown many of your wonderful videos in my own physics classroom. I always love your content. As a fellow teacher I feel like you are going too fast. This episode had so many different concepts, and it reminds me of the crash course pbs classes. I feel like it would have been much better if this episode could have been broken down to at least two episodes and you could have calmly gone through each topic. Also, you go on a lot of little tangents talking about crumple zone, time dilation, and other fascinating physics concepts, but I think this only confuses/distracts students from what they are supposed to learn. As a teacher I understand the struggles of trying to show how cool physics is and teach something tangible at the same time, but I think you would do a lot better focusing your material a bit more. I have a very small KZbin channel and I totally understand your struggles, I hope I'm not discouraging, I just see how a few tweaks can lead to massive improvements :). Looking forward to the next episode!

But you managed to make two that canceled each other out, LOL. This really is like a physics class. When she said "this is what we talked about in the intro video" I had that sinking feeling in my stomach of having missed something important. "Hold on Intro video? What intro video? Oh no what did I miss?"

I loved taking physics courses when I was in high school. Now, I am a mathematics professor and I always emphasize to my students that when they have word problems, they need to add units to their answer(s)!

Your way of teaching is very different, I'm a grad student and already know these concepts, but you present it in a very interesting way, this way concepts get cleared very very easily

Kinematics, a course I took during Navy Nuclear Power School, explains why I landed 4.5m when I flew over the handle bars of my bicycle traveling 5.7m/s after a stick got stuck in my front wheel spokes last week. Ouch! Glad I was wearing my helmet. Stay safe out there Dianna.

One thing left unaddressed in my high school and university physics classes was the slope of acceleration. It’s important if you think about standing on a subway train. While at the station, you stand perfectly vertical. But when accelerating at a constant acceleration, you need to lean at a constant angle. But you can’t instantly change your lean from vertical to leaning into the acceleration. So, if the train departs with constant acceleration (what they focus on in school), all the passengers almost fall over. The answer would be a constant slope in acceleration to give us time to lean, followed by constant acceleration. Then a constant negative slope in acceleration down to zero acceleration as we settle into cruising speed (constant velocity). It’s not taught, I think. Also, I think it partially explains how wrinkled the sheet metal sides of the train are. My question to you is, “What is the physics name for the slope of acceleration?” It’s important enough to have a name and be taught, don’t you think? Then the trains could be programmed to be safer.

Dimensional Analysis: I was taught about this in the last week before my A-Level Physics exams. If I had known this a few years earlier my understanding would have been so much easier.

Very interesting. It proves an Old Dog really can learn new "tricks" or information. I understand much more than I expected I would. You make learning this stuff fun. Perhaps I will learn more by watching it more times. This is a great tool to help a person learn Physics and, with Diana's enthusiasm is bound to make it fun as well.
