I think that we'd all appreciate an update on how this fix is working out (now that it's almost a year later). Is the weather stripping adhesive still holding and sealing out the water after the winter cold and the heat of the summer???

No leaks as expected, and this car ia still my daily driver. EDPM holds up very well under extreme temperatures, the main reason I chose it for this application.

@@1D10CRACY That's great to hear! Clearly your method is superior to gunking it up with silicone sealant, as your way the two parts can easily be take apart and put back together after the fix. I too am having an issue with water on the passenger side and plan to do this fix. After looking at the "seal" (as everyone calls it) on my low mileage car, mine looks to be in great condition and complete all the way around the opening. What I am seeing is that the "seal" looks to be nothing more than a foam material that reminds me of what you'd use in between your home windows if you were putting a window air conditioner unit in a window opening. After testing the area with a water bottle, the water easily penetrates the "seal" and goes down the vent and into the cabin by the upper right hand corner of the passenger foot well. Tell me that this isn't the factory seal / engineering design! If so, then that's nuts!!! What's your thoughts???

Thanks for this video, I'm doing this right now, I managed to find the exact product at Canadian Tire. UPDATE: I'm done, a tip is to make sure to press down hard on the area by the windshield when tightening those two rear screws. I didn't push down and tested and some water leaked in, but I pressed down and re-tightened and then it is leak free. Cheers!

If you're having a problem with this in an f150. Check your 3rd brake light that's on top of your cab. I have a 2004 F150 Lariat. The gasket there became loose and water traveled all the way down to the front passengers side. Take off the plastic peice that's right before the door. There are wires there and that is where water comes in.

This year my passenger side floor has been growing a wet spot and it was driving me crazy. I was thinking heater core leak or somehow water was penetrating from underneath from wet roads. But none of those made any sense as I didn't smell coolant and the wet spot grew when I wasn't driving the car. I was about to rip out the carpet before I decided to see what the YT community had on the issue. This post looks like exactly what I am experiencing now. This was Grandma's 1996 Mercury Sable that she barely drove. Once the rain stops (so I don't melt) I will disassemble my cowling and see if this too is my problem. Thanks!

One note about doors leaking... I had a weird leak in the passenger footwell. My drain holes were fine, there's even cavity wax evident. What caused my problems is the foam sound insulation (actually to be correct, it is in fact a vapor barrier based on the same principles as roofing vapor barier) that is behind the door trim panel. That stuff which is usually glued with awfully sticky black butyl rubber. If that butyl doesn't stick anymore, your feet will be wet.
@patricknedrick37186 жыл бұрын
This is great information. I recently purchased a 2000 Lincoln Town Car (42,000miles) and noticed the floor mats were soaking wet after it rained the day before. Having fixed a quite large herd of Town Cars, Crown Vics and Marquis from early '90's through 2006, I will add just a couple things to this fix advice. I always used 1/4 or 3/8 inch diameter 'windshield' tape, this is the butyl rubber compound that holds the windshields in back then. It comes in a round 'rope' and is available at NAPA if they are still around and if they're gone, any auto glass should have some. You will need about two feet of it. The primary problem is the foam gasket that is OEM disintegrates with time, and since I lived in Florida the 'with time' could be less than a year with the heat. Disassemble as per the vid, but instead of using more foam tape, use the butyl windshield tape. Be careful but you just clean the mating surfaces completely, using solvent of alcohol to remove the old foam rubber adhesive and the dirt and grime. 'Be careful' means most of those exposed metal edges are very VERY sharp. Install the new butyl seal on the black plastic part, carefully following the outline where the old foam tape was. Carefully install the plastic plate and gently press it down to get a good seal between the plastic plate and the metal cowl top. Once that is in place, reinstall the other parts as shown. Wed carpet. Town Cars have very thick rubber insulation made on to the carpet. Remove your rubber floor mats and leave 'em out until the carpet is completely dry along with the insulation under it. If you the time, space and ability, the best way to dry the carpet is remove the right front seat and rear seat cushion, remove the plastic kick panel and the plastic sill plate front and rear doors, fold the carpet back over the center as much as you can, prop it up and put a couple fans to blow air over the exposed bottoms of the carpet. This can literally take a couple days. If you have not the ability to do this carpet fold back trick, leave your rubber floor mats out for the two and more weeks it will take for the carpet to dry. This same trick works with Crown Vic and Marquis, difference is their carpet insulation is nowhere near as thick. Also, sign where you worked, I used date and what looks like 'FAN' . Anytime I was in anywhere I had to remove anything, door panel, IP, seats, carpets, anything, I signed and dated it. Sorry, I moved east 12 years ago so you will find nothing with 'FAN' and a date since then.
@TomTom-pg3db5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the Advice. Im gonna try this. Sounds better than gasket sealer silicone
@sevoblast5 жыл бұрын
@@TomTom-pg3db I also sign everything I did, with date. 99% of my work was warranty, back when Ford still paid good for warranty by their book. I signed it and dated it where the signature could not be seen unless one was actually exactly where I did the work. I did this for years and actually won a bet from a service manager at Davidson Ford when he said there was no way I had the IP out and back in a Ranger in the time I punched in. I bet him I'd pull the IP out, put it on the floor pad, then reinstall it in less time than the first gig, but he had to pay me for the first R&R and double time for the second R&R. He said OK, I did it in less time by about fifteen minutes and he stayed true to his word. After he agreed to pay the double second book time, I told him to forget it, it was fun to beat the clock in front of him. Neither he nor any other SM questioned me after that deal. I also signed in Russian: ГАИ, State Automobile Inspectorate initials, GAI. For today's time, you would use 'ДПС', DPS. They changed names few years ago.

I had the same problem but I found a much easier fix. Basically, I sucked out the blockage with my shop-vac. Here's how; I took a dollar store funnel and glued the funnel's wide-end to a short piece of 2" PVC pipe. I then duct-taped that PVC pipe to the end of my shop-vac and, using a short piece of 1" plastic tubing, I connected the funnel to the AC drainage port (located underneath my 2021 Equinox) and sucked out the blockage along with a quart of backed up water to boot. That cleared everything out and water is now flowing normally. Please feel free to share widely. Kindest Regards, Omar 🙂

I had a seriously wet floor in the rear passenger side of my car (Honda Accord). There was no indication whee the leak was coming from but by studiously masking off parts of the car with painters tape and plastic wrap I finally traced the problem to the sunroof. It looks like one of the drains in the sunroof going through the rear panels to an outlet near the wheels is clogged or defective. I'm not going to go to the expense of fixing it as I never open the sunroof to the air. Instead I will simply seal it with black silicone compound.

This seems to happen about the time a car is 16 +/- years old. I don't know WHY it's not part of the maintenance schedule. This happened to me and I paid a couple hundred dollars to have someone do this. I would have preferred to take care of it BEFORE there was water all over my car floor. About a year later it happened in the back seat because the drain holes in the door were clogged. Again, water all over the floor. Sometimes it's DAYS before you realize you have water in your car and your car starts to smell/mold. It could have all been easily prevented if only this was common knowledge!!

Thank you! Great video. You make it look simple. Will try your idea with the gasket. Now I know where the water came from.
