I used to have an old Minis with front discs, and I just used a remote brake booster. Come to think of it, the Lamborghini Espada also has a couple of remote boosters - way up the front, behind one of the headlights, and facing the opposite direction from normal - so the concept should work just fine. And that would allow them to use the master cylinder and the manifold they already had - and the booster could be tucked away pretty much anywhere there's room in the engine bay.

Centura! I haven't heard that name in a while. My Dad had a lime green one when I was a kid. When he would go out of town for work, I may or may not have taken it out for a spin a few times before I had a license. Almost drove it off the edge of a bridge one night when I lost control on a dirt road. I'm surprised I didn't wreck it or myself.

from memory when working on a Torana when younger they did have a booster on board but it was a small sized one tho not dinner plate size but more the size of a bread ad butter plate so not big at all ! im 64 so remember them from the 1st model which was in fact a Hillman ! am not a mechanic but worked on a few Torana,s when younger ! like the conversion its looking great and the torries are worth quite a sum of money now if you have a good one into the double figures for the standard models but if a GTR or an XU1 especially , then the skies the limit ! love your channel keep it going !

Was the HB torana a Hillman?
@chrisshields58964 жыл бұрын
apparently so ! it was British in origin from the GM company imported to Australia .not sure if it was built here or not but it was the father so to speak of the LC , LJ and later UC sunbird and the great Torries like the A9X raced by the likes of Brock , Gagen , Grice etc etc ! . a great line of small to medium cares i think that were after the HB designed right here in AUSTRALIA so a great legacy in design in the end of which there should be many examples to find these days on the interballs as Moog calls it !. again love your content and really enjoy the effort that you put into your builds its really interesting .THANK YOU !

Watching the fab work is kinda fun. I do industrial stuff which is just 90degre bends in all dimensions and metal types. but sometimes we get to redo some old hack job, and I get to whip out the flap disk and cut some bends in half and make shit work xD for some reason they didn’t have angle finders in the old days. “Let’s get this pipe to that flange the shortest way possible” pipes going in cross like pasta :p

Al, get a boring head and some inserts for your mill and you can skip that die grinding finish and just bore to size. You'll still have to do the little ridges on the other side with the die grinder, but making a circle is pretty easy for a mill.

Brake Booster confinment woes- start collecting PBR VH44/VH44J remote brake boosters as fitted to Aussie slant6 Valiants (mine were from VE & VF.... Then you can run brake mastercylinder on firewall & then mount booster where room will allow... One problem with VH44/VH44J is that they're for disc front/drum rear, not 4wheel disc, but a hunt though the PBR catalog should turn up a suitable equivalent. Another option would be trawl through a wreckers for booster/master cylinders from cab-over mini-vans as they have to fit in very tight space under dash.... I know of a few 'hot rods'/rat rods that use the later option when converting to modern 4wheel disc brakes... I understand your hard up for time so may be an option for future projects.... (Comment made around 13minute mark) Best of luck & looking forward to seeing how the ol' Torrie turns out. Thanks again for sharing guys! ;)

That looks like it's causing much head scratching ! 60's Fords in the UK got remote mounted servos don't know if they were ever a thing in Australia, Escorts got long extension mounts so the servo and master cylinder were mounted right up by the radiator and Austin and later Rover Metros had vertically mounted master cylinders and servos. Looks ike your all sorted now though, keep up the good work.
