1st Comic Book Haul from a yard sale in Downey California January 31, 2019

Feb 21, 2021 Update:
THANKS FOR ALL THE VIEWS!! When I started making these little videos, I never considered them getting more than 20-30 views. Now this one in particular has over 38k!
And thanks to ComicTom. I instantly recognized most of these comics from his videos.
So, I decided to check out some vintage Budweiser collectables at a yard sale not far from my house.
I saw the Death of Superman logo on an old brown briefcase in the garage. I asked the lady if it was for sale, since it wasn't with the rest of the sale items. She said she didn't know what was in it since she couldn't open it.
I joked with her and asked if I could buy her "Grab Bag" briefcase. She asked for $10. But I offered $20, and bought $100 worth of Budweiser items.
Nice haul.

Yard and Garage sales don't get enough credit. I've found great tools and collectibles, besides comic books. Yeah, most of the time the comics are in trashy condition or they are filler issues. But I have 4 videos that show neighborhood bargain hunting can really uncover treasure.

Danny, when you pulled out Amazing Spider-Man #52, it sure brought back memories, as it was the first Spider-Man comic I ever read. That was around 1979 when I was in second grade. I wish I took care of all my old comics. 😃

Same here. I wish I took care of my old comic as well. First time I was exposed to comics was when my older sister had a job at a thrift shop in the mid 70's. One day she came home with two boxes of random comics. I was only 9 years old and didn't know anything about collecting. So I flipped through the comics, colored some of them, and stuffed some of my back pocket. In later years I discovered that some of those issues were major key Treasures. I wish I had taken better care of them, but at that age who ever knows?

I do read comics, but I read them online whenever I can. I'd rather not risk degrading any of these issues. Even the Silver Age and Golden Age issues can be found online, for free.

Yes, that was a rare find. I do pick up comic books more often than I post. If I did post every time I picked up comic books, it would be extremely boring as they are not extraordinary issues. I have a habit of only posting the treasures when I find them. Unfortunately, it has not been very fruitful since covid-19. The more times I go out, the better my chances are at finding the coveted issues like these. But since I only go out maybe once a month, my chances of finding the top key issues are greatly decreased. The odds not with me lately. Since I don't go out that much my chances have become very slim. Trust me, it takes a lot of hunting before you find gold. There are tons of sceptics that don't believe I found these. It's all about footwork.

Those men in black comics were worth hundreds of dollars when the first movie came out. (I have a set myself) The price dropped really fast. You could buy them for about 10 bucks each a few years ago

Yes. The prices on those do fluctuate. They are listed between $30 to $50 per issue online on sites such as eBay, Mycomicshop, and Comic Book Realm. But as the saying goes; "A comic book is only worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it". Thanks for the view and comment.

Great find..the 12 cent spiderman comics are worth the most. Especially that number 31..the punisher war journal is pretty much worthless. I cant understand why the person paid about $50 to get that cgc slabbed?? They should of done the older spidermans.

Right?? Some people are unaware of the value of certain issues vs. the cost of displaying or preserving them. But I'm guilty of the same thing. I framed and matted an old Ghost Rider issue from my childhood. Not worth the frame it was in, but the comic itself meant a lot to me.

Thanks. I don't know what happened, this video has been around for two years and it is just now blowing up. It originally had just a couple hundred views, now it's past 21K. Thanks for the views. I'll try to make more videos when I'm able to find more comics. This covid-19 has really put a damper on my comic book hunting abilities. No more yard sale nor flea markets around here. But I'm still looking!!

I think people are commenting and saying great haul, because of the issues themselves. These are key issues and not easily found in in yard sales.

@@mjlives5428 For me personally, I'm not motivated by looking for valuable, high cost comic books. I enjoy finding rare issues, old and hard to get comic books. If I am lucky enough to find a very expensive comic book, then I am grateful but would most likely not sell it unless I was desperate. I'm a collector of popular issues and aficionado of the great stories that most comic book sellers never bother to read. An old issue that I love could be worth $10 or $100 and I would appreciate it the same.

That's another issue that fluctuates a lot. With Channing Tatum supposedly leading the role and then not leading the role, going back and forth. This issue has gone from $50 up past $500 at one point. So who knows what it's worth now.

Of course they'd undervalue. They exist to make a profit not pay market value for things lol. They wouldn't have much of a business if they paid actual value. Auction houses do the same thing, taking a chunk of the sale. Only way to get "full" value is to handle the sale entirely on your own which brings all sorts of risk

I'm a collector, so I generally don't sell the comics that I get. The only time I sell, is when I have multiple copies or it's an issue that doesn't interest me.

Yeah, I figured that the $100 worth of Budweiser collectibles and the tools that I bought from her wasn't enough. So I went back and spend 3 hours with her, examining each issue, determining the conditions and values, then I paid her for the full value of each and every issue. We debated on price. Then I demanded a full refund for the Budweiser stein that she sold me which had a hairline crack which caused the handle to break off. We have a case pending in Los Angeles Superior Court right now. I'm hoping that I can win her grand piano. I can't play, but it would look great next to my framed stolen issue of Action Comics #1. 😬
