2:01 This is Stevie Wright. He is the lead singer, and was only 16 when he started. For him later, check out Evie Parts I, II and III. Epic. There is one in front of the Opera House in Sydney. The blonde guy on guitar is Harry Vanda and the smaller dark haired boy on guitar is George Young, older brother of Angus and Malcolm Young of AC/DC fame. These two became formidable songwriters, but the earlier songs were by Stevie and George. They formed when they lived in immigration housing. Australia should be so lucky that they came here. Cheers to their folks. Another song of their is Sorry, She’s so fine, and I’ll make you happy. Jimmy Barnes and INXS covered their song Good Times for the movie The Lost Boys (on the album for the movie]. They are legendary here.

Legendary band here in Austalia, and this is their signature song .. So many catchy and innovative instrumental and vocal parts in it .. But they have many more good ones for you to explore down the track .. "I'll Make You Happy" is a great one, and it was later covered well by another iconic Aussie band The Divynals. Sadly, lead singer Stevie Wright would later become a heroin addict and struggle with it for much of the rest of his life .. But he did have a very successful solo album "Hard Road" in 1974 and a No.1 single from it, "Evie", which was over 11 minutes long, included 3 parts, and was written for him by his ex-Easybeats bandmates, Vanda and Young .. There are some fantastic live versions of him performing it which are worth checking out if you get some free time.

Harry Vanda and George Young were and still are Australia's No 1 most prolific and best song writers and producers in the 1970's and 80's. Working for the Albert label they had a huge number of artists end up with successful hits thanks to them. Even the classic "Love is in the air" from the movie Strictly ballroom" This live was in Germany and shows how dynamic they were live.

Lead singer Stevie Wright , he’s deceased now but had a long troubled history of substance abuse. Surprising he made it into his 60s 😢. He’s also famous here for his song Evie. One of the other band members George Young is a brother to the Young brothers of AC/DC

Harry Vanda gifted a guitar to Malcolm Young (likely the one in the close up shot near the start of this video). That guitar became Malcolm’s primary AC/DC guitar on most of their recordings. Harry Vanda says that his gift turned out to be a pretty good investment

They all met at Villawood Migrant Centre - a place for temporary housing of "New Australians" The Young family from Scotland would settle in Burwood (NSW) and George Young was the older brother of AC/DC's Angus and Malcom Young. He and Easybeats band mate Harry Vanda (from the Netherlands) produced the first AC/DC material and wrote a slew of hits for other artists in the 70s leading them to be somewhat akin to Lennon-McCartney of Australia

@@playitagainsue Dick Diamonde (bass) from the Netherlands, Harry Vanda (guitar) also from the Netherlands, Snowy Fleet (drums) from Engalnd, George Young (lead guitar) from Scotland, and Stevie Wright (vocals) from England. So many of our artists from that era were from o'seas Olivia Newton-John, the Bee Gees, most of Little River Band, Billy Thorpe, Jimmy Barnes and Steve Prestwich from Cold Chsel, Colin Hay from Men at Work, John Paul Young, Ted Mulry, John Farnham, Johnny Young to name a few Johnny Young like Dick Diamonde and Harry Vanda was from the Netherlands and also like them changed his name (in his case from Johnny Benjamin de Jong). He wrote a great psychadelic track "The Real Thing" sung by Russell Morris (also worth checking out - 6:20 mins long).

Hi Sue, another terrific song that was a one hit wonder in the UK charts. It was in the period when a number of Aussie bands broke in the UK, following on from the success of The Seekers. As you say, the guitar solo is so distinctive.

I remember this song on the AM radio then. So fun to watch bands play now, like here. Back then you would only see them at concerts or on one of the weekly shows by Glen Campbell, Johhny Cash, Dick Clark, Where the Action is, and a few others. Good song and always interesting facts.

Always liked this quirky song, the tempo shifts and the guitar riff. I still have the '45. Never saw a live (and definitely lively) version. The lead singer was born in the UK. To me he looked a bit like Davy Jones with a bit of Keith Moon. He became dreadfully addicted to drugs, underwent shock and other therapies and by the time he was older his good looks had turned into those of a haggard bag man. A terrible end. Drugs suck.
