Your analysis was very accurate, specially about the "barbershop harmonies" I wrote for the group. Our individual vocal ranges suited this type of arrangement so well when Judith Durham was mainly the lead vocalist. Also, when Bruce Woodley took the lead, it gave me the chance to voice Judith and me above his rich baritone range. Athol Guy was the consummate "Mr Bass man" and filled in the low range so perfectly. Thanks for giving our ORIGINAL SEEKERS project a mention too. We just keep having fun!

As a 60s child I cannot think of any other group that evokes more potent and wonderful memories of that time than the Seekers. I don't think many people nowadays will realise just how popular these guys were, especially in the UK. For a couple of years they at least matched even the Beatles in popularity, and deservedly so. In my view they are Australia's greatest ever export.

I think you are right, but the Bee Gees, Midnight Oil, Olivia, Reddy, ACDC and Icehouse still rank up there...and I like Kylie and Cave at lot. I think what is missing in this wonderful and enthusiastic video is just the general sensibility in the Aussie culture reflected in the music of all those artists for an almost utopian happiness, and honest well wishing, combined with a really strong individual spirit, but also a frank recognition of the dark side of humanity, a sort of weird combination not seen elsewhere...

Wow. What a concise and informative analysis. And to top it off, we have have the brilliant Keith Potger adding his first hand experience to it all. Sends a shiver up my spine. Thank you to you both (and to the youtube algorithm that got me here)

Great video! The Seekers are still one of my favorite bands many years later. Judith has the most amazing voice, and if you hear her today, she hasn't lost anything. SO amazing!

Judith's voice in unmistakable. I know her voice without anyone's introduction. That gal can hold a note without effort. She has lately had a woeful health problem, but I have her recordings close to my heart.

A very good assessment of the Seekers, I enjoyed their music in the 60's and I still do. Judith's singing is natural and beautiful. She plays the piano extremely well too. Thanks James

I am so happy to see your presentation on The Seekers. I most appreciated your view and angle on music much before your time. Yes The Seekers were supreme.

Your knowledge of these bands is phenomenal! I knew of the Seekers, and saw them on TV in England in '65 - but I actually had no idea they were so successful as the years went on... great job Fil - and yes, your love for music shines through every time :)

Thank you so much. Growing up in the 60's I of course remember "I know I'll never find another you" whether we were watching it on TV or doing home work or a paper route or picking beans for our fun money, it was so memorable of all the top 40 songs played in that decade. I had NO idea they were from Australia, and how big they were in UK and Australia and that they did Georgy Girl, cause we were all focused on the "Naughty Sex" that occurred which was such a huge deal back then. Thanks again Fil for the analysis of how good this band was and why, and the background.

Not only is Judith Durham a special singer but is also a very special lady who personifies all that it is to be Australian.

When the Stars Begin to Fall is one of my favourites - KZbin has a live version of it. Her voice is so beautiful, and as a group they were phenomenal. No gimmicks, just pure talent. There's been no-one like them, before or since.

"A World of Our Own," which I believe followed their first big hit, "I'll Never Find Another You." Both written by Tom Springfield, brother of Dusty. Thanks for a great excursion through their musical history! Fred

Saw the seekers the first time they were on TV in the UK. The show was " In Town Tonight " which showed different acts that had arrived at London Heathrow during the previous week. They were great on their first appearance and the rest is history.

That’s possibly why I DETEST them so much, far too straight, goody two shoes, non rebellious, enough to make me really hate them !
