Good morning April! I am married to a beautiful woman that happens to be a Texas born twin. She is a former Kilgore College Rangerette so the thought of her being a shop rat that loves to be a farm girl is not the first visual that comes to mind. I first heard of you from her twin sister when she referenced building a table for "HER" new miter saw. My wife then became a big fan of yours and subsequently so have I. The other twin has now purchased her own small "she shed" wood working shop. We built a 16' x 32' workshop for my wife with spray in foam insulation, 3/4" plywood attached to the walls, A/C and heat and a PVC tile diamond plate floor. We have acquired a table saw, miter saw, planer, router table extension to the table saw, and so on. She is actually having a blast using and working in the shop. She has built new shudders for our house, planter boxes, etc.. and takes great delight in showing her twin sister how to use the newest tool such as the planer. When one gets a new tool the other will soon follow. These are two ladies that take great pride in working with their hands and creating. Thank you for being their inspiration and giving me a great reason to buy more shop tools!!! Now on to installing a dust collection system... cough cough...

I have been watching your videos for a few years now and I am always impressed with your "down to earth" humble soul. Another very endearing trait is your ability to explain your work and process so anyone can follow. You are very gifted, please keep doing what you are doing and don't get sucked in by some network (I am sure they will be calling for you to do a show). Love your shop and your videos. Thanks.

You've inspired me ever since I started watching your channel years ago. It's been exciting and heartwarming to watch you learn and grow your skills and workshop. I've learned so much from your videos and you've often given me starting points from which I could branch out to learn on my own. I was trained as a draftsman on a drafting table early in life and have always carried those skills with me in every project that I take on in the shop. I never had a need to advance myself in CAD skills because I would do most of my planning in my head before I put it to paper. As I get older and my working memory decreases, it is harder to plan and hold the ideas in my mind as I brainstorm throughout the day while doing other things. Putting ideas down on paper becomes more time-consuming because of an increase in erasing and modifying. Because of this, CAD seems like an obvious progression for me and I owe it to you for giving me a starting point by recommending SketchUp as an affordable CAD option. I'm loving it and as a practice project I have been designing our first custom design backyard urban chicken coop! Thank you so much and best of wishes for you into the future. 💛

For that 3ph sander you could put a VFD on it for not too much money. It’s an option you might not be aware of. It’s a nice option to keep the simple 3ph motor and be able to control the speed and stopping time without sacrificing power of the motor. The VFD can convert from 1ph to 3ph.
@bmay8818
@bmay8818 5 жыл бұрын
I thought she might prefer that route too. One consideration, at least if slower motor speed with the VFD is desired, is that non-inverter-rated motors can overheat since they're expecting to be run at full speed. Only an issue if the sander is run slower than normal, though putting a blower on the motor would probably work.

April, your sense of grace and humor have helped you conquer one of the "good ole boys clubs" and it's good that you did. Twenty or so years ago, a good friend, an cabinetmaker and shop owner, passed away, leaving two adult daughters and a wife. His girls were both married and quite happy to be "home bodies"- Agnes, the wife, didn't do what two of her husband's employees wanted her to do- sell the cabinet shop and tools fro cheap and let them take over- she did the outrageous thing and decided to run it herself! Neither the two who wanted to buy the shop nor te rest had any idea that Agnes had been keeping the company books for fifteen years, had gone to night school after her daughters were big and going to learn better bookkeeping tools. Those idiots tried to screw up a couple of jobs, thinking she wouldn't know better; one nearly went to jail, the other moved to a new community- his rep and integrity shot. We are now looking a Agnes' retirement- she was 71 late last year; the people (three guys and two killer gal carpenter finishers) hope for someone like Agnes. You give them hope that that person. man or woman exists- don't change that one inch for some stuffy self centered idiot- not one inch! Glad to hear about new challenges and successes awaiting! Damn, girl, you got some fine tastes in adult beverages- a couple of my beer swilling plumber buddies would recognize all those labels! A question; can you see Matt Carriker's Abandoned mansion from your place? The mountain shapes remind me of the view he's shown from there! Always April, always awesome!

For instance I used your Rocking Chair plans and videos to host a high school woodworking class (we built 12 chairs in 10 days- each student got a chair and we donated three to the school). @Sven3xs My workshop is in my unfinished basement. Half a basement, because the other half is the mechanical room and storage. Getting any material in and out is a nightmare. I always found videos like this one, where people show off a workshop 99% of people could never own, are pretty gross, especially when half the tools in were given for free by the companies making them in exchange for shilling. Like some rich dude showing off his manor, his yacht, his RV, luxury cars, etc. Yeah, yeah, we get it, you're rich ! :P

My Son's dog is a black and brown pitbull. He's 11 almost 12. Name's Savage but he's a big baby. If you are in a lazy boy he wants up too. Whenever we have steak he'll stare me down. My Wife tell's me I'm spoiling him. His face is all gray and he limps from a bad shoulder. When God takes Savage I will know that he's had a good life.

Oh, WOW! I worked with wood for several decades. My shop was always one side of a two car garage. I built beautiful things in there, but I have never seen a shop like this one. It blows my mind. The one thing I didn’t see in there was a lathe. A lathe was part of my shop and I turned many thing in there. This is nice. Good video.

Actually, I was wondering if April might make a vid about her rise, her close supporters, and the small squad of minions that there must be to get all this production done. I don't get a sense that there's any oppression or exploitation at play. So, stripping that away, I think we're looking at that most elusive of people: the inspiring, well organized, resourceful, courageous leader.

@@eejuice I'm not great at reading people, but April has always inspired me to do more with what I can physically do. I know she's also really hands on and I'm guessing that her employee's get to spend a lot of time working in close proximity to her. It's the way I've always worked best, getting stuck in and dragging everyone else on for the ride. I think I'd enjoy working for her 😊

I love how her Dogs just follow her around everywhere. I wonder if she's doing a "MakerSpace" - meaning a membership "club" type deal - which are popping up all over the Nation and World. ( A large warehouse with every kind of machine and tool which is insanely cost prohibitive to buy for just one person ) AND to have wood tools - metal tools - CNC's - computers - Mills etc . . all in one place. ( Also - Shop Dogs are actually "priceless" )

I met this engineer who when he had his house built had them install a 6" pvc pipe under the floor for dust collection. With ports at sevral key locations. If and when he moves the next home owner has that they can use or seal up. If you think about it and your planing out a shop to build then having it underfoot saves you the trip hazards or celing limits an over head system can cause. But it also limits moving things for a different work flow. Unless your shops over a crawl space.

Massive uncontrollable jealousy does not even come close to describing my reaction to your 3,000 sq. ft. shop. I've never even lived in a house that big. As a life-long carpenter, I have never had the luxury of working out of such a spacious, well-organized workshop. And now I know where all the misplaced clamps in the world end up. Masterful work all the way around. Kudos times a thousand.

Just an FYI on the 1 phase vs 3 phase, 3 phase would be great for a building your size cause you'll save on the electric bill in the end, it's all 220 also. However since almost every " backyard" shop has single phase, I'd switch that 3 phase motor over to the single phase. It way less of a hassle. Now if I'm wrong, I'm hoping someone out there corrects me. Anyway the shop looks amazing. Plus it really helps having a bathroom close by. Congratulations April, you worked hard every step of the way and got what you always wanted. 2 THUMBS UP 👍👍.
