I suggest you watch the two-parters that originally aired together in one sitting. It's how the creators originally released them, and is more authentic to the original experience. This show will always have a special place in my heart. My family was kind of on the poor side but one summer my parents finally bought us one of those big above ground pools. So all summer me and my younger siblings would wake up early, swim from 8 or 9am until lunch. We would come inside for lunch and watch Avatar on TV. We would watch however many episodes would air that day then back out to the pool we went. We did this almost every day the whole summer and we would always "water bend" when we went swimming. Then that Christmas I asked for the full set on DVD. I still have the set. We spent so many hours rewatching Avatar the last Airbender especially when our parents were at work. Season 2 is still collectively our favorite to watch

And so it begins… you’re in for an incredible and unforgettable journey :) imo this is one of the (if not THE) best animated show of all time. I first watched ATLA when I was 12(the same age as Aang) and it’s been my favorite show ever since. The story, world building, character development, score, animation - everything is just so well crafted and it’s obvious a lot of planning, research and care went into making this show. I have a feeling you’re going to end up loving it as much as the rest of us do :) I have this advice to give however - the show does start off a little “kiddish” (it was airing on Nickelodeon after all) at first, but quickly becomes more mature and nuanced as the show progresses. Once you get past the first half of the first season, you are going to be hooked I guarantee it. Also you /really/ don’t want to be spoiled for this show. I suggest you don’t read any of the comments under future reaction videos anymore, or get a mod/someone that has seen the show already to moderate the comment section for you so you’re not accidentally spoiled. Without a doubt my favorite TV show of all time. The first several episodes of season 1 are a bit “kiddie” feeling, so I think a lot of people give up on it early. But trust me - by season 2 it’s so amazing, all the way to the finale! Can’t wait to see you go on this crazy ride!!!!

They put a lot of work into the series along with taking in the over all story arc that can last generations. This was one of many shows that defined my childhood BECAUSE of the world building and story that they created that treated everyone like people instead of those who need to be spoon feed.

Code Lyoko is another show that did bold things which aired on Cartoon Network back in the early 2000s, just know it starts rough in Season 1 BUT regardless of many issues it had & has, it got an Award in France in 2006 and Global Recognition.

It's interesting because a good portion of the fan base agrees that the first season is the weakest and some of them will say skip episodes altogether until at least half way through the season. I do agree that the first half of season 1 is the weakest; it's where the creators were finding their footing and figuring out their groove. But I have yet to actually meet someone serious about the show who seriously says to skip these episodes. I would never dream of skipping episodes simply because they are all about developing character and developing the world.

Having grown up with the series and still having the 3 DVD's of all the books I just gotta say this. Avatar is probably the main series that shaped me into the person I am today and I still rewatch it from time to time. I only have the Swedish dub of the series on DVD though because that is what I grew up with and it gives me nostalgia whenever I hear the Swedish voices of the characters.

Hi James, Eliot 😊. The question is what element would you want most? I'd want water, because that's my birth element, but I'd also like earth. It's so cool. Fire third because I'd never be without warmth, and then air I foresee evil creeping out of me if I'm an air bender 🤣. No one can see the wind, I'd be power drunk. The first time I watched it was... episode 3. It was on as I passed through the living room, I thought Sokka sounded like Kendall Schmidt and I wanted to see the credits. So as I'm watching and waiting I was hooked, and thankfully I got to see episode 1 and 2 the next day because of repeats. The show had just come out and they were making sure it was seen.

I do remember how I reacted to this show; I was about 8 or 9 when this first came out, so I was in that phase where you don't want to admit to your friends that you watch cartoons because at the time cartoons were "kids stuff". This was right in the time period, the early 2000s when TV shows for children were really catching onto that you could treat your audience with some intelligence. There had been a bit in the prior decade, but from the general population's point of view, cartoons were commercials for toys and something to rot your kid's brain, not something to take too seriously My point here is, I was in a critical time period where I was extremely sensitive to anyone knowing that I was watching a cartoon, even my parents, but I would in secret watch whatever episode that I could get my hands on when I did find something I liked. So when I'm flipping through channels and come across ATLA while Aang and Katara are on board the ship talking about the fact that he's been frozen for 100 years, there is something about the atmosphere and the tone and the way the actors read their lines that felt like "This is important". That got me to watch the rest of the show. And that feeling of "This is important" continued all the way to the end. Nostalgia Critic did a top 10 list of the episodes and there's one he describes about half way through season 1 (I won't say what because I don't want to spoil things) where he said "This was the moment where people realized this wasn't just another show, this was an experience. Something deep, something that could leave an impact." That's completely accurate.

But season 2 just blew the whole thing out the water for me, So don't feel bad if especially with season 1 - It's doesn't seem like your thing, It does have a certain element to it, but once you reach season 2 it all pays off.

please consider watching 2 episodes per week (at the same time) since they are so short and there are quite a few 2-parters in the series. btw, the finale is a 4-parter that should all be watched at once.
