Just rebuilt my 1zz recently with the extra drilled hole in the pistons. I also opened the original 2 piston oil drain holes slightly.

I got everything minus the valve keeper / compressor..hopefully a day job..realistically 3. I've never venture this far. Cmon 1zz @183xxx...02 celica gt auto. I needed this

@@timshop2700 that's a little expensive 😳 any other similar tool you think for a little cheaper maybe??.. I'm like 300 just tools and rings , gaskets , hone , o2 sensors..etc..

@@treach5196 that's the best tool in my experience for foreign engines. It is actually a great price I think. It will pay for itself if you rebuild more engines

Excellent video! I am going to need to do this in the coming weeks to the engine in my 2001 Celica GT. Probably going to spend about $600 on an engine rebuild kit - are there any particular brand/websites you’d recommend? The engine I’m rebuilding has 241,000kms on it, and it’s burning a sufficient amount of oil, so I feel it’s about time to get it fixed. But anyways, fantastic video!

Cause of oil burning in my 1998 1zzfe was the common stuck/charred piston rings/oil drain holes. Someone on here has a good rebuild video where you can do it without pulling the engine. Just order the parts you need: gaskets, rod bearings, bearing cap bolts, head bolts, timing chain (might as well). Optional: oil pump, pistons, other parts. I used rockauto. only use full synthetic after rebuild and change the o2 sensor when its done burning everything off from the rebuild.

Something I've noticed about these motors is the changing heatshield design and layout of the 02 sensors sticking out. My 2001 1ZZ-FE out of my MR2-Spyder had a urinal shaped heatshield with two 02 sensors plugged into the exhaust manifold in a v-shape, but the most common design I've see features a different design with only one slot for an 02 sensor. Is the changing heatshield design the difference between pre-03 (oil burning) and post-03 (fixed oil burning) models?

It has a chain tensioner but this version of 1zzfe does not have vvti
