First off I absolutely love your videos!!Please help! I’m working with rebuilding the same engine. After washing parts in the wash machine I noticed this in the pan afterwards. Could you tell me what it is and what’s it does and where it goes? Thanks so much!! Here is the picture ibb.co/f119xCW

Your videos (and HM's) have been very helpful to me over the past couple weeks while I work on my TSI engine project. I removed my engine to work on the bent valves so that I could easily access bolts and then retorque them easily when reassembling. It was wonderful to have access to everything when removed. One word of helpful wisdom I would like to pass along to you, and to the viewers, is when using sealants as you did in this video, use temporary studs in a couple bolt holes so that when you set/place the "valve cover" or timing cover down, the studs guide the part directly into proper position without wiggling or movement. I make studs out of old bolts by cutting-off the heads. Remove the studs when in place, and install the proper bolts all around. Thanks Again for the great helpful information.

Before slapping the valve cover on, momentarily install the cam bridge that it is flush with the cylinder head. Sometimes after complete installtion of cams and cover, the camshafts will be slightly off and the bridge will NOT sit flush. You will have to untighten everything, the sealant will break loose from the valve spring pressure compromising the seal and having to re-apply everything torque etc.

Those little grooves cut in the cover right by the bearing surfaces do not require sealant, those are cut as reliefs for excess sealant to squeeze into from the main sealant grove around the cover, they are there to prevent sealant from getting into the bearing surface.

I feel there are not enough repair guides for this engine. Ya'll at DAP should really focus up as a lot of us are getting 100k+ now in our mk6's and there aren't hardly any videos for the diy's. Ya'll do the most in depth and detailed videos of some stuff but we could use help with more major jobs like this one

Pretty sure you are not supposed to seal the inner grooves only the outer one. You are also only supposed to use a very very small amount of the sealant as to not get into the inner grooves. The inner grooves are for oil flow.

Think that has something to do with improper lineup of the balance shaft or maybe something else that didn't get reinstalled properly?

hey guys i have used and reference this video several times and noticed for the first time you are putting flange sealant in the wrong location. You do NOT put flange sealant in ' all the groves". the grooves by the cam journals are a relief so any extra sealant from the cover goes there and NOT towards the cam journals. Sorry if this is a repeated comment.

@@emotionalintelligence776 lol!! Camary or Passat. That is the question....tis more nobler to own a Camary then the Passat. For all things VW are nothing more then the stepping off point to the event horizon. From which there is no escape. To live out your life in a living hell with no hope, where madness consumes your sanity and your weekends are spent trying to fix something that broke - again. Or to face the endless list of parts from everywhere, and infinity seems like a walk to the corner. Endless hours of perfecting your driving skills on ps3 or 4 with Grand turismo, because your vw is not running right or at all. Madness consumes all that is you. Just a question, We cant use the same bolt twice right? I had my valve changed because a sparkplug tip broke into the cylinder hence why the misfire. Did a compression test and yea 0 psi pressure in piston 3 So i had a cylinder head out to change the valves.. replace all gasket and seals, when time to put everything back on the..the cylinder head bolt broke!!!! And it was the last far right bolt. It broke after 70lbs torque ( the extra 90 degree)

Question: if I rotate engine until both chain marks are lined up at top with the cam marks, is it always true that the marks on the crank and the balancing shafts will also be aligned? Or is this only true on initial installation? I have a situation where I believe I have identified that my crank and balancing shafts are out of time with the Cam’s. If you have an email, I am sending photos with markup.

Good question as I paid 1200 for a valve cover job at the dealer cause I didn't know how to take it apart with the engine in the car. I've done covers before but with the other crap that comes on the 2.0 I didn't want to risk messing this one up. I would love to get another 10 years/ 100k out of it. I want to see it hit at least 200k and I know I need to get the tensioner and chain done soon. It's not ticking or going out but just as a precation. I have 125k on mine

Did you bother to notice when you turned the crank to help get the cam bridge on that the cams were not even turning?

You recommend to replace the cam cradle bolts, but don't include them in your 2.0t bent valve kit? 🤔 Lol

You're supposed to put the head cover on BEFORE you put the timing chain on.

How strong are 2.0t pistons and rods
@gurenmk5047
@gurenmk5047 5 жыл бұрын
856XerXes the rods in the engine are pretty weak along side with the bolts. The ribs are about 2 1/2 inches thick and are not harden, just cheap cast iron which also makes up the pistons. The pistons are more durable in design but if your timing is off you have a high probably of your pistons becoming powder and your rods most likely breaking off from the bolts that hold in place on the crank, the bolts are pretty wimpy and thin as well. So timing, guid rail(none updated dated rails are known to crack after 40-80k miles most of the time), chain tensioner(none updated parts don’t have spring to prevent timing slip in cold start or if engine is low on oil) and proper seal is important. So to answer your question not that strong, recommend Max hp on them would be about 350 before you start stressing them out. If you feel a wobble at about 4-5k rpm and it’s gets worse and it isn’t your tires, or misfires, or studders, sometimes loss of power then you most likely having timing issues.

@@gurenmk5047You seem to know that staff. I replaced my tensioner with the updated part but haven't done chain and rails. Currently running at stock power and don't plan to go further than stage2. 60k miles with 5k oil changes. What do you say (regarding chain etc) ?
@gurenmk5047

TRiBaL81 at 80-90k miles just as preventive maintenance and tune up, I would suggest replacing the chains and guid rails especially if they aren’t the update parts. The old chains have a tendency to stretch out, especially on the upper chain. The rails I would also change at the same time as well, the older ones are also more prone to wear out on top of the rails were the chain sits or break in specific stress points of the rails. The newer ones will last much longer and the newer chains won’t stretch out as much or at all just because how the new ones are designed compared to the old ones. I’ve already replace my engine 2 times on my b8 avant cause of timing chain issues killing my engine both engines “check” and replaced by Audi from 2 different Audi locations. So it can be a big issue, not the first time I’ve seen golfs, a3s and Tiguans that use the same ea888 engines that have failed timing and cause minor(can still be used but could replace some parts) to total engine failure. If you hear light to low rattling like something is lose or like marbles in a bag, could be your timing. So check throughly. They are good cars if you take good care of them, I still have my avant(third engine) with Integrated engineering internals and updated timing and rails and tensioners. Runs like a dream.
