i'm a part time server and a full time student. when i made the jump to 2 12w7s i was working full time and going to school part time and i also had a whole semester off to stack. when i first started my system i believe i put down 1.5 - 2k total. i craig listed the sub and amp so that's how i got to stay in a 2k range. i went with a 1000/1 and a 12w7 with my first system. i did my own wiring instead too so i didn't pay labor. my set up now though would of cost maybe 6-7k to build.

you need some better matching amps. the right sub it powered way better as you can see in the video. left sun is approx half powered at the same time your right sub us powered. Do u have 2 different amos?

If your porting your box I think it's okay to have the port on one side if you have a single speaker but if you're using double with a single port then I believe the port should be either on top or at the bottom evenly distributed from one end to the other so both speakers get the same amount of air distribution and they both would look and play in sync you're right speakers looks to be hitting harder than your left either you have them out of phase or your Port is allowing one to play harder than the other

Question.......why in God's name would you seal off the trunk and face the subwoofers toward the rear? This makes absolutely no sense. (Looks clean though). Face those subs toward the cabin and see what happens.

no. if subs fire into the trunk and port fires into cabin in a trunk setup there WILL be cancelation... the ONLY way to bo a trunk build and not have issues is to fire subs and port into the cabin and isolate ALL bass from the trunk of the car. in other words COMPLETLY seal the cabin...then and only then will the real magic happen

Wait JL amps dont have a slave/master switch so you can strap them? I know each of the amps ive owned if you set one to slave and hook it to one set to master the setting knobs on the slave stop working and the master adjusts both amps.

retail on the 1000/1 is 1k but u can craiglist it for about 500. if ur super lucky u can probably get it as low as 250.i'm not familair with planet audio but i gotta tell u, having had just 1 12w7 before that thing demands A LOT of power. to have 2 of em, u'd have to have everything right. wires, cap, batterIES, high performance alternator, and a high quality amp. i recommend jl but there are others. i'd say check out other sites or ask around.

it depends on what u have. i got my trunk reinforced now. it has two layers of hushmat. a popular one would be dynomat. my trunk still shakes but the sound is clean so if u hear rattling when you hit hella hard then u might want to think of having ur trunk reinforced. Also after i got my car reinforced my rear view mirror doesn't move down anymore which is great.

@John N it's a cap but i think for 2 10w7 ur gonna need more power than jus one 1000/1. i believe the 10s rms at about 750? not sure but before replacing the amp u might be interested in ur wiring first.

John N the stinger looks like its a volt meter. Nd your system cutting off can be that your amp isnt tuned properly or your subs are wired too low in impedance for your amp or a bad connection.

Right on, thanks for the reply. Nice setup, did you play a part in the design? I've been trying to come up with something similar, carrying it all across the interior. Trunk, doors, rear deck and A-pillars. Not to take from you. right on man. Keep it up.

well it's hard to say because it depends what area you're testing it at. i've been told it was loud enough to shake the car next to me and my car has two layers of hushmats (dynomat). i guess u can hear words and subs clearly at 200 feet if i play it as loud as when i'm showing off. that's with my trunk open though but if it was closed i'm sure the subs would be more hidden which would be a good thing so you don't get pulled over and you get a cleaner sound. =D

@badasazninvasion No, I picked up the subs for him because he doesn't know to how check speakers. It was basically brand new, only used for 2-3months. i guess he turned the amp up too much and it gave way. He also fried 2 12w6v2 with that 1000/1. Not even sure what to say myself. Probably turned the frequency up a lil too much

Hey, how much is that amp turned up? my friend had one 12" w7 in a ported enclosure built to specs on a JL 1000/1 and it shredded those subs to piece. I was wondering if yours is handling the rated rms they rate them at.

Nice setup, but I wouldn't spend all this money on JL sound system :) Have you looked at ARC Audio, Morel HIFI, Mosconi, Zepco, Zed, Brax... I had JL Audio stuff back in the day where i though JL is the Best!! Boy was i Wrong! I only like the fast of JL 1.5-4 ohm load will give you full potential of amp. If you go in to higher class like Mosconi Zero3, you will only 1 amp for your subs, very efficient and also control level is super crazy.! my .02$

thanks, i just looked around and it costs a lil more than i thought, i have 1 12w3v2 now with a 1k amp prolly 200 tru rms. i need head unit for 300 fold out with gps/bluetooth, amp 300.00 4000 watt planet audio, 400.00 jl 12w7 x2 :/ sooo im most likely going to bump 1 jlw7 with the 4k amp turned down until i get a second. stay intouch ill post as i go

@ihaterabbits127 it can be done but sayin somethin like that is always so general since so many things vary. depends how well u power a sub, the box, ur speakers, the headunit, the car itslef (is it a sedan, coupe, suv, etc), then the ultimate test is always the person's preferences. my preferences landed me the w7 so to say orion beats the w7 is a no for me. to others yes and the number one ppl say is price for the jl. i don't have a problem with it.

500 would be CL price probably and for the amps too. i got the subs new and the amps new but for such a low price i'm not allowed to say. haha. i had a place do it for me so i can save myself the time and labor. they hooked me up with the price and they did more than what i was expecting with the set up so it was all great money spent. =)

sealed on these are still nice. i think it makes a difference that i have 2 of em. i had one ported and one sealed before. ported is louder and those bass punches come out stronger. for sealed the hits aren’t felt as much but the sound seems more accurate and the lows are amazingly deep. i went with sealed cuz i love lows and now i’m more into the overall sound quality so i’m glad i got it sealed. it’s a preference thing but in general if u want it accurate, sealed is the way to go and ported will get u loud bass. jus remember to feed this beastly sub with enough power hahaha.

Tbh, Jl audio is over priced. they sound nice, but you can get a bang for your buck somewhere else. I blew 2 single 12w7 on a 1000/1v2 within six months of eachother. now i got a Re audio sxx 12d4 in replace, and it hits harder, drains my power, and is overall better and best of all, more than half the price. $360 shipped to canada :) check it out!
