How did you get accepted to Med school with less than a 3.0??
@DevinThomas-b2b2 ай бұрын
@@bitario723 a pretty high MCAT coupled with really good extracurriculars and 4,000 hours of research. Also, that 2.94 was with 28 credit hours of concurrent enrollment taken when I was in high school without much direction. Excluding that, I was at a 3.76. But, I have to report those classes on my application and that was the result.
@DevinThomas-b2b2 ай бұрын
@@user-ff9mb1ts4u I did not. I had a really high mcat score that made up the difference. Also I took 28 credit hours of STEM as concurrent enrollment in high school which really brought my GPA down. Excluding those, I had a 3.76 but I was required to list those classes on my application.

I needed to hear this, because I've been really wondering how to proceed. Because: I'll have my pre-req's done before I matriculate, but I didn't know if I should apply DURING or AFTER. This makes a lot of sense. Long story short...30 years since I had to drop out of school to take care of my father, finally graduating college this December, but def need a post-bacc for pre-req's (career change). That'll put me right at 59 when I finish residency lol. (VERY non-traditional)

I've spoken to an associated dean for admissions and was informed to take all of your desired classes or amount of credits before submitting your application so that that your grades can be better reflected as a whole. Spot on far as saving something to build something bigger like a "product" in line.

Dr. Gray, the only thing I disagree with is that many in the autistic community have requested that neurotypical people use identity-first language in that instance. Other than that, I always use person-first language. I still struggle with this because person-first is so ingrained in me. This does offer some hope to me, as I’m not the person with the great GPA. Now to work on the MCAT and Applications Academy…
@xniks101x2 жыл бұрын
So the preferred way would be to say “autistic child” instead of “child who has autism” ? I’d always assumed the latter was more PC than the former.

Is having “good stories” really what they should be looking at for medical school acceptance? I mean I get that admissions staff get tired of the same type of student over and over but why are they admitting students based solely on being “different” or “non trad”. Seems like grades, mcat, and personal statement should come first
