I have cooked with 2 and 3 briquettes using small wood burning stoves and stoves designed for alcohol burners. It worked very well, fire is easier to control than wood, lasted much longer than alcohol, light, easy to carry. The only downside is you cannot burn charcoal indoors because of the carbon monoxide. Also, flower pots are dirt cheap (used to be, maybe not now) and can be found in many stores. Great video.

I often cook with charcoal briquettes when camping. Getting old and crippled up so gathering firewood is often too much of a challenge, and charcoal takes up far less room than firewood. Never tried using a flower pot, but I do use a collapsible charcoal chimney type starter with 10-15 briquettes. I can usually cook an entire meal that way including a hot drink and a dessert like S'mores. It never occurred to me to try just 3 or 4 briquettes for heating water for a hot drink or for rehydrating a Mountain House meal. I never go camping without briquettes and propane. Let's take a minute to think about the tragic notion that you can use doritos as fire starters. Woof.

I saw someone use Fritos to start a fire on a survival show. It’s just all the oil that the chips absorb when they are fried.

I do this with a bigger pot and about 12 briquetts. Works great for just me, and a bag lasts a long long time.

That’s awesome. What is the biggest thing you’ve cooked?

@@carolinacowboycooking ....Well..the grate is maybe 10 inches, so i don't have a lot of real estate. But its perfect for like 3 hamburgers, 1 nice steak, 2 pork chops, or like 5 pieces of chicken. I have a domed top that I put on and it kind of smokes everything too. I like to soak some wood chips and toss them in to give everything a little smokey taste too. You only need like 2 or 3 small slivers of wood. Just me and my dog, so this set up works well.

@@carolinacowboycooking Yep, its cheap and saves money on briquetts. I prefer coals over gas. Speaking of that, i actually lite my coals with a gas turkey fryer burner. I just arrange them on a grate so the fire gets under them. Only takes a few minutes then once lit, I dump em into the flower pot. Eazy peezy. When I get around to it, Im gonna get a bigger flower pot to set the smaller pot into....then fill the space in between with pebbles/sand. This will make it like a thermal mass stove and it should get even hotter and for longer....maybe even less briquetts. I saw a few youtube videos on this, think its called a Tandoor flower pot oven. Yes, this dog gets more love and adoration than the law allows...lol. That is all a person can do for them is to give them a good life. As long as I do that, I did my job as a pet owner, and will have no regrets. She serves me well, and does her job exceptionally well as a my puppy dog...lol
