In this very lengthy and relaxing build (which I spent more time on than any other video) I completely rebuild a Briggs and Stratton 2.50hp. this is different than my usual "restorations" because those I usually just paint them, this one I DONT paint them and restore them from the inside. this took me over a month to record, I paid a lot of attention to detail.
filmed on the Panasonic LUMIX FZ1000

I have one of these motors from a 73 toro sport lawnmower. It's a reel mower. I'm planning on restoring. An this really helped me get a better sense for the motor rebuild. Much appreciated. I now look foward to getting it fixed for summer mowing

Gave a like. My three cents worth. White vinegar for rust soaking, Dawn dish detergent, Simplegreen and hot water for degreasing. All are environmentally safe. Worked great for my "76" B&S 2hp teardown refresh.

Nice Job! For a second I thought I was watching Hand Tool Rescue! :) This was made in 1966 if you didn't already know. I have a similar 2.25HP from 64 on a scooter I built and it is quite a good little engine! As for the gas tank, I usually fill mine with kerosene and some nuts and shake it around a bunch. That seems to do a good job of removing the crap in it. Do you have any plans for this engine or is it just another one for the collection?
@WildfoxFabrication
@WildfoxFabrication 4 жыл бұрын
I guess just another one for the collection, although it was already in my collection for a couple months, it may turn into one of the strange engine builds i do. (see through engine, compressed air engine) and yes, i know how to tell the date, this engine was made February 22, 1966.

Great video. I’ve just bought a Scott Bonnar lawn mower with the same engine. Low compression and no spark, but I haven’t had time to go through the basics. I did a compression test and it’s 75 psi. Will that be too low or enough.

Hi Malcolm. I just picked up a Scotty recently with the same motor. How’d you go? Mine doesn’t start either. Still need to pull it apart but have no clue what I’m doing all I’ve done is replaced the spark plug and given it a spray of starting fluid in the air intake but still no bueno! Great vid! 👍🏾

Use a piece of 2x4 for removing the starter clutch. I know you might not break the fins now but I broke a lot doing that. Great job on the rebuild. Love those briggs

Nice job of rebuilding it. A week ago, someone gave me a 5 hp B and S. According to the code it was made in 1976. Said it hasn't been started in years. Air filter was totally curded up so took it off. Gas tank dry so put in about half inch of gas. Removed spark plug and just wiped it with a rag and reinstalled. Pulled out choke, pulled and it sputtered. Pulled again ran rough and pushed in the choke. Running super smooth. There was clean looking oil in crankcase. Really though I would have to tear into it to get it running.

On my 2 hp there is an electrical wire running from the coil to the carburetor. Is that needed?
@WildfoxFabrication
@WildfoxFabrication 3 жыл бұрын
thats the kill switch wire, it kills the engine when the throttle is moved past the idle position. if you remove it the engine will run fine it just wont have a kill switch. I usually disconnect it when trying to diagnose an engine, in case it is faulty and is causing the engine to lose spark

There a little screw on the carb warm the engine up for a few min an turn the screw an 1/8th turn left or right until it sounds good an kill it an see if it starts good, an engine thats been setting for a week or two 3 to 6 pulls is pretty good in my opinion
