I get a lot of hate on my videos id like to address.. when people ask me why I don't do things a certain way and buy new parts the reason is I don't have the spare money I'm just a normal working man with a family I'm not a rich KZbinr I don't have a good job anything like that I'm just a normal guy working 50 hrs a week like you.. I would have loved to buy a new air filter and gasket set for this engine but I've got 3 children to feed and I don't have the money to buy it my daily struggle is the same as yours believe me.... it cost me £50 to do this little project for primer paint oil silicone etc all paid from my day job and hard work ... I just make videos because I enjoy doing it in my spare time and for people to enjoy if they like it...... I don't claim to be good at this stuff I'm just learning as I go on.... just remember everything I use in the video I've paid for by working at my normal job no one gives me anything so a lot of effort goes in on top of the actual restoration to get the money to pay for things I use on the videos ... I do my best hope you understand a little bit now why I do it as I do hope one day I will be able to do it better but keep with me guess i carnt get any worse. Billy

I am like you. I am just an average guy who works hard, but doesn't have a lot of money. I don't always fix things the way society thinks I should. But I take pride and do it the best I can. For the critics, I say to hell with them. Most of them are the type of people who need detailed instructions on how to use a roll of toilet paper.

Other then the RTV on every thing. And the painting inside the engine and sandblasting the valves . He did a nice job. But in the end the engine had a rod knock. Nice job but…just to give some constructive criticism: How you removed that broken bolt was a no-no. It’s better to use an extractor set rather than just hog out the hole with a jobber drill bit! You run a major risk of elongating the size of that hole which might require increasing the diameter, re-threading it and using a heli coil. Also, how you use that tube gasket material is something I do not recommend. I have used it before only for it to start leaking again. Yeah, I know you have to use the resources you have and you might not have the funds but gaskets don’t cost all that much and you can buy them online for pennies on the dollar vs. buying them had a parts shop. Again, not criticizing just trying to help you. Sometimes it’s best to pay a little more in the long run than to pay a whole lot later on.

silicone is the worst thing you can use for a carb flange, the fuel will eat it, always use a gasket also the muffler is going to back out of the head with out the locking nut on there, the heat is going to melt that locktite you used
@stu76044 жыл бұрын
Nice job!... especially with an old Briggs. It has been my experience that the only thing that wears out on a B&S engine is the pull rope and rope rewind spring. I was really expecting to watch you pull on the rope and adjust the carburetor to no avail before throwing the engine in the junk pile.

0:57 usually every 3.5 hp classic briggs engine will have their serial number either on the shroud or somewhere facing the head part of the engine. the third code's first two numbers will give the month then the next number or numbers will give the date and the last pair will give the year e.g. [ 2. 20. 77 ] the rest of the numbers i think are the factory catalog code just in case the batch of engines were to be recalled this is a technical view point i think . i know one of the other sets will give you bore stroke CC capacity torque output and soforth. im not saying im a know it all im just going by what i do in fact know and what i think is right. also with the carburetor type this one tells me your code should be on the shroud and the carburetor type also tells me your engine could be from the range of 1962 or later all the way up to 1976 or later.
@Mr_Tecumseh4 жыл бұрын
Thats a 3 and it was before they stamped it. It had an aluminum model tag screwed on which was missing. 1965 and up started the code 64 and back was serial and DOM was not in those. You have to either contact briggs and give them the serial and if they cant you go to the antique briggs website and they can using the records. 1982-83 started magnetron so you'll always know if you have one before or after that year. Also the code is year, month and day. So code 940211 for example is 1994, April 11ty, you had it backwards.
@Mr_Tecumseh4 жыл бұрын
The model number gives the cubic inch of the engine. First two digits, so if it starts of 09 its a 9 cubic inch.
