2.7 ecoboost f 1-50 oil change! it is very different from any other oil change I've ever done... and I've done a lot! different oil filter, different drain plug... but it wasn't too hard!
For more info check out our web site!!!
www.donnasean.com/2015-f150-o...
All and all the oil change on the 2.7 Ecoboost is pretty easy.
Make sure you allow 20-30 minutes after turning off the engine to allow the oil to drain into the drain pan. It take a while for the oil to settle in this engine...

I'm A Ford Diesel Mechanic, honestly if that o ring on the tip isnt degrated or damaged at all just leave the small one alone if the integrity looks good. It's so easy to break the tip off of that I've seen it many times. When you drop the oil give it about 15min to drain alot is left in the engine with this particular design and even when you check the oil level after running give it about 10-15 min after shutting off.

Thanks for posting this, Sean, I bought a 2017 F150 4x4 at the end of April, and aside from being too short to even reach the dipstick without a stool, you've shown how easy this job is. Best of luck with your truck, I enjoy your videos!

Good video! A couple of notes having done this a bunch of times myself (2015 2.7 F-150): You don't need a ratchet to remove the oil pan drain plug, just squeeze the two tabs on the plug and rotate 270 degrees. Installation is the reverse and requires no tools. Make sure to drain the oil for at least 30 minutes. A lot of oil remains in the top of the engine for the auto-stop/start feature. It helps to crack the seal on the oil filter canister to let the oil drain faster. Capacity is 6 quarts with the filter change. If your dipstick is showing high after the oil change, it didn't drain long enough. The filter o-rings are a pain in the butt :) and I usually put the new filter inside the canister housing before installing. Thanks!

I believe the drain plug on a 2018 is slightly different. Using a small pick helps get the small o ring on just be careful not to poke through it. I also like to remove the old o rings without cutting them as a backup to reuse in case I damage the new one accidentally.

Nice. One thing to add and i don’t know if you do this but once the oil is drain and the filter is back on I put my truck on level ground then add oil. Because after you pour the oil and start the truck the oil will cycle through the Engine. Check the stick cause the level can be different than after you first poured it.

To avoid a splashing mess, just partially unscrew the plug and hold so only a controlled stream of oil flows out. Within a few seconds you can remove the plug completely from the oil pan and you won't get that initial surge of splashing oil. Use nitrile glove on hand of course.

Domenico Pirrotta I think the 10 speed in the 2018 F150 is going to be awesome. I've heard nothing but good things about it. Also they're bumping up the torque on the two seven in 2018. but yeah I would definitely bump up to the 3.5! it has better pulling than any V8 and its class

It is best to drain the oil in a 5 gallon bucket and just let the plug fall in when you release it or it will make a mess
@southeasternclub9943
@southeasternclub9943 6 жыл бұрын
Don't cut off the old o-rings with a blade into the part. You can accidentally nick the channel where the o-rings seat thereby causing a leak round the new o-ring. I use a hook-shaped tool to grab the o-ring and pull it up. Then it can be cut off with some side cutters.

I strongly suggest you change the O-ring gasket on the oil drain plug, or replace the entire drain plug itself ON EVERY OIL CHANGE. They tend to leak and, if you're not careful, you'll lose enough oil to do engine damage. Mark my words - this will very likely be a TSB or even a recall. I'm dealing with an issue right now that could result in a new engine totaling $13,000+.

How can you do a oil change in 10 minutes when these engines need to sit 20 minutes so all the oil can drain down, you risk a overfill if you the jiffy lube style, this is assuming Ford is changing all the oil.

Damn, this 2.7 L is using an inverted oil filter ???? No way to prime the oil filter before reinstalling it. Wonder why ford went to that design. Maybe because of the start-stop function and how the oil stays up top after stopping the engine. But it sure does seem to drain no problem, just get out of the way !!

There's a valve so once you loosen the filter it's drains to the pan and it's best to loosen the filter then drain. This cartridge oil filter was used from 2003.5-2010 in ford SuperDuty 6.0 and 6.4 diesel also known as International VT365 and MaxxForce 7.

If you pull the filter first in some cases oil will come gushing out and it'll make a mess. Some of the lube techs at the dealership pull the drain plug first and then do the filter while it's draining so it doesn't come rushing out and then they let it drain for about 15 minutes before plugging the pan back up
