What up everyone , Tech from WV 304. I did exactly this and still had a hard time getting by the oil pump drive sprocket so I ended up taking out the driver side engine mount bolt. After that it was easy Install and reassembly. Appreciate it , Have a good one yall.

Outstanding work! You sir, have the patience of a Saint!!! lol I see now that Ford has a pan replacement for 2.7 Ecoboost, as the original pan is no longer available. Pan # JT4Z-6675-E, and use only RTV# TA-31 for corners of pan only. One thing about Ford engineers, they make you use every tool in your tool box. lol Thanks for sharing!!! I have a few oil change videos where I use a long extension to remove the drain plug slowly. I don't waste a single drop of oil. I bought my truck new in 2016 and only I have ever change my oil. I only use Motorcraft synthetic blend and I don't have any leaks. I warm my engine up at least 5 minutes before driving it. It has 93k miles with the stock turbos.

2015 2.7 here with 160k miles stock turbos. I do have a oil pan leak unfortunately

I've been looking for a metal replacement pan to no avail for my 16 f one fitty 2.7. I love the engine except this stupid ass leaking pan. I see now it's different in your video; the pickup is entirely different. I am a tech but at an independent shop. I did take both pans off a 2017 f150, i believe it was a 2017, 3.5 EcoBoost. I took plastic pan and upper pan and replaced it with a one piece metal pan. When i do these, I do all the stuff you do, but i take the steering rack out. I've mostly just done the pan gasket on the 5 liter, though

I live in Auburn, can I hire you to do mine? I have the 2016 F-150 2.7L. Mine still weeps oil after being replaced three times: 12,322 miles 19,352 miles and 27,470 miles. Never got the updated pan JTZ-6675-E before my warranty expired. Called Ford, they refuse to pay for it. My local dealer says the Warranty rate is $1800 to do the job. There is a new TSB for 2015-2017: 23-2083

As of March 20th 2023, Ford released a new TSB for 2015-2017 oil pans. They discontinued the gasketless oil pans and built new ones with gaskets. My dealer in Orlando managed to get two and they want to replace what's now my 3rd new oil pan. I'm crossing my fingers.

I have a 2017 w/ 2.7 and my engine oil pan is wet. I'll be waiting for the supplies of the new and improved pan to be fully stocked before attempting. I was reading that Ford recommends draining over night before applying the new pan. Is that what you recommend? Then again, it probably doesn't matter since the new one has a built in gasket. Have you installed any of those yet?

I have installed both versions. It isn't necessary to let sit overnight. Just make sure the engine is wiped clean with some brake cleaner right before installing silicone in the corners. I place silicone directly to the new gasket in the applicable spot and reinstall immediately. I will say though, if it's the silicone only pan version then I like to let them sit overnight to cure fully before filling oil and starting.

I am in the process of replacing my oil pan on a 2016 f150 V6 2.7 that has been leaking oil. I ended up purchasing the Motorcraft TA-31 not realizing Fords TSB calls for the TA- 357. Should/can I use the TA-31 RTV Silicone sealant instead of the TA-357? I believe the TA-31 RTV silicone sealant are for the diesel’s but wasn’t sure if there were a difference between the two RTV’s. Any help would greatly be appreciated!

Sorry about the delayed response. I've used TA-31 to seal up intake manifolds, timing covers, valve covers, water pumps, etc without any problems and yes, it's designed for the 7.3L diesel but it seems Ford is using TA-357 on all their newer engines. I completely sealed a boat engine using TA-31 and it worked great without ever developing a leak. TA-31 is gray and TA-357 is black in color. Other than that I can't say the difference but would be willing to bet you will have no problem using either one. FYI, there are expiration dates stamped on the tubes.

Funny you say that. Have done another since I filmed this and is had the gasket insert. Makes me wonder if they gave me old stock or that was all they could get? I just install what our parts department supplies. 🙂

Imagine my surprise having bought the new pan and gotten the shield underneath and then wondering how the hell I was going to get a couple of the bolts out. Went to go search for a video here to see if there were any tricks or tips I had absolutely no idea how involved this job was. For crying out loud. Is all of this really really necessary on the removal of parts? No short cuts possible?

Unfortunately there are no shortcuts on this one. Pretty much the life of a technician these days, designers don't put much thought into how it will be serviced.

If it is built before 02/18 then yes, very similar and has plastic pan. If built after Feb 2018 then no, have to loosen up the transmission bellhousing bolts and separate 5mm plus pull the lower timing cover bolts to get the oil pan to slide out.

How long do we have to wait for the oil to drain frombthe motor? My truck has been draining for almost a week now. When is it ok to apply the new pan?

I like to let vehicle sit overnight before removing the pan that way most of the oil has drained back. Once the pan is off you can reinstall it at any time just make sure you wipe the engine block clean of any oil right before you silicone the pan back on.

No. I torqued the bolts right after assembly. All Ford states is that the oil pan be installed within ten minutes before silicone sets.

Ford labor pays 3.5 hour and the pan is probably $100-150 bucks. My guess would be around $800 dollars. I'm surprised they leak because they are really tough to break free from the engine.

It's a 3.5hr job. At our dealer this service would probably be around $1000 parts/labor.

Ford want you to evacuate the a/c system and remove the LH catalytic converter assembly before pan can be removed. Plus they have this note: "NOTE: Do not reuse the oil pan. Discard the oil pan."

Unfortunately no. The front cover and right timing chain have to be removed. The oil pump drive belt wraps around the crankshaft and is sandwiched between both timing chains.

The oil pan bolts are torqued to: Stage 1: 31 lb.in (3.5 Nm) Stage 2: 89 lb.in (10 Nm) 🙂

Such a terrible design. Every 2.7l oil pan leaks. It should be metal on metal with silicon. But they seem to think disappointing customers and technicians is perfectly fine.

Good question. Done several of these but not quite sure. The oil must weep out the sides of the factory silicone. The entire pan will be wet but nothing else.
