I have an 03 F150 5.4 and this more modern engine is actually easier to tune up. My old 03 has 398,000 and runs flawlessly. I've heard very very few bad things about the 2.7. If the old guy ever wears out, doesn't seem to want to, and I really maintain it very well, a 2.7 ecoboost would be my choice. The 03 was my Dad's truck. Dad hated Fords and he got this one at 322,000. He was so impressed with it, he changed his mind about Fords, sort of, he did finally admit that Ford builds great trucks. Dad passed away in July of 2020 and left me his begrudgingly loved Ford and I've had it since 366,000 and would never ever part with it. It runs like brand new. All original powertrain too.

My deepest sympathy, sounds like a great guy, would of loved to talked to him, I’m nearing 60 and in 2017 bought my first Ford and got to admit best driving fastest accelerating truck I’ve ever owned, lil tiny 2.7 Ecoboost, not the first problem in 75k, lord I bragged on it, getting ready to take lil Shitzu to the vet, hope it don’t blow up😟

@@poppyneese1811 Thanks he was outstanding. Coming up on 2 years since he passed. What a character! He had all the found on road dead etc jokes but not with this Ford. The truck has 401,000 on it now and is still running perfectly. Those 2.7s are turning out to be very trouble free. The only thing I've read about with them is a leaky oil pan gasket. 8 years in production for the 2.7, very few problems.

Thank you so much for showing how to do #3. Also using a blanket and laying across the battery and the air box on the driver side the job was much easier than trying to bend over. Completed the job in less than an hour on a 2017 STX

GREAT tutorial. Cylinder #3 plug made me put this job off for several months. Myk's simple solution of using a 3" & 6" extension made the task easy. I had no problems. Also great advice to just lay on the engine to reach the rear plugs. I laid a body pillow on top and this too made the job much easier.

Just changed my plugs a couple days ago and it went perfectly thanks to your tutorial, thanks again for taking the time to show us how it's done! Also, to anyone looking, the new plugs for the 2.7 Ecoboost are "SP594" and they work just fine, really smoothed out my trucks idle and slightly improved fuel efficiency after 52k miles on the factory plugs.

In the midst of getting the #3 coil pack back in, the stud bolt (that holds the coil pack in) was nearly impossible for me to find the threads to get it back in and tightened. Long story short it cross threaded and stripped the receiving threads (on the valve cover piece). Due to this it won't tighten and the coil pack is fully connected to the spark plug, but sitting in there loosely and not fully tightened down. Would you think this would be an issue to drive it like that until I can get the valve cover replaced? Simple and relatively cheap project turned south quickly..
@Myksgarage
@Myksgarage 3 жыл бұрын
That sucks! I would drive it like that until I could replace the part.
@timfekete2762
@timfekete2762 2 жыл бұрын
I would use JB weld on the threads of the stud and just screw it back in
@anthonytimperio1254
@anthonytimperio1254 2 ай бұрын
The issue is the brass inserts are heat set in the plastic valve cover. If these come out you can either press in a slightly larger one or use some jb plastic weld or epoxy to reset.

Dielectric grease should not be put on the electrical connections of the spark plugs. It is an INSULATOR. You put on the boot to insulator to prevent spark jumps from the connection. Ford does not recommend anti seize on these plugs and it skews the torque setting of the plugs and on all fasteners.
