Here’s an update on the 2017 F150 with the 2.7L EcoBoost. It now has 183664 miles on it. Whats broke, what’s been replaced, and would he get another one?

I've clocked 170,000 miles on my 2018 XLT 4x4, and it's been running smoothly with just regular preventative maintenance. Impressively, I've never encountered the first Check Engine Light. I'm running on 295's and still achieving 21 mpg, and I've yet to experience the transmission shifting issues that seem common in discussions. My truck came with the 36-gallon tank, which I absolutely love, as it allows me to cover 700 miles between fill-ups. In terms of towing, I've done about 15,000 miles in total with substantial loads. The 2.7's low torque curve combined with the 10-speed transmission ensures that power is always available when I need it. Despite initial advice from friends and family not to purchase a vehicle with the EcoBoost engine, I've been thoroughly impressed by the 2.7 and its construction. Even those who were skeptical at first - some of whom bought a model year newer with the 5.0 or a 3/4 ton with the 6.2 - have been amazed. Despite towing more than both, my vehicle has had fewer issues and has proven incredibly reliable. I've been considering getting a tune and fully intend to drive it until it can no longer be driven. This machine has not only met my expectations but exceeded them.

Same here bro I wanted a 5.0 V8 cuz trucks are supposed to have V8s. But I came across the perfect truck 2018 everything I wanted already had aftermarket wheels and exhaust 75k miles but it was a 2.7 test drove it fell in love with it paid cash for it that day LOL. I wouldn't give this truck up for anything it's by far the best truck I've ever owned and has completely roached V8 trucks like the hemi coyote ect. I don't know if you got a tuner yet but I put a bully dog bdx in mine and oh my gosh bro it's like downloading horsepower I can't believe Ford would leave this much horsepower and torque on the table to be had my truck is around 390 horse 480 lb ft at the crank now and that's just bully dogs canned 93 octane tune that comes with the tuner you can do better getting a custom tune!

@The Overdrive Consumer Channel Shes been a good one. Love my truck. Looking forward to the next 200K. Fixing to put stage 3 turbos on it to replace these high mileage ones. Should make near 100 additional horsepower on its already 420whp. Might be the only 1st gen 2.7 Supercrew in the country able to run a 11.xx in the quarter soon, not sure it may only go low 12. Certainly the only one with over 200K. If the motor ends up going out at some point I will just drop in another one and keep on trucking.

@@Jdp313 I would put a catch can on a 2015. IMO it will help caking on the valves since those motors were direct injection only. @@TreesOnTheBeach I still believe the 2.7 is and will continue to be a good engine. Keep in mind with new models there will be issues that pop up. The bronco offers a smaller space in which Ford had to make some changes from the f150. Little things like relocating hoses or parts can make a difference. I have a 2019 f150 with 2.7l 4x4 and I love this thing. I was worried about a small displacement engine in a truck until I did some research on how the engine was designed and I was sold. Zero issues with the truck and its well maintained. Recommend a tune especially for the Trans to help clean up the shifts. Everyone I know including myself have noticed sometimes the transmission doesn't know what gear to chose. Tuned and no more problems and more power. If your going to run the truck hard upgraded the intercooler to keep intake temps under control. The stock intercooler Robs you of power if its hot out or running the truck hard ie pulling a trailer or wot pulls.

I have heard something along those lines and I understand there is some kind of “political” reason for lack of a better word as to their not getting some of the “industry ratings”. Their product is excellent and proven. I have a 2014 F-150 STX with the 3.7L NA V6. Certainly no powerhouse, just my service truck for my business. Currently have about 239K miles and still running like a champ, zero engine issues. Been using Amsoil from day 1. I did just have the tranny rebuilt about 4K miles ago as a precaution due to some issues on cold starts getting stuck in 5th gear for a moment. Most likely it was a valve train or main lead issue, but better to over repair than have another issue. Pensoil makes an excellent product as well for a competitive price. Keep doing what you are doing if it’s working. Bottom line is keeping up with regular maintenance. Happy truckin’. @@theoverdriveconsumerchanne4424

Nice truck, I had a 2020 2.7 f150 4x4 with 3.55 gears and extra fuel capacity, my mileage was never over 16 mpg ,I drove 90 percent highway and had it in the shop 2 times to see if they could do anything about the milage and they said keep driving it its running fine , I did but it never in reased and I finally sold it due to the poor mileage, I was going to see about a shop doing a tune on it to get it running as Good as possible but never got around to it but overall the truck was fantastic, I never had a issue, I changed oil every 5000 miles and was very pleased except for my mileage that never got better , it's good to see the reliability is good and mine was to , I would recommend the 2,7 engine ,I just got that 1 in 100 that was probably not up to par

@The Overdrive Consumer Channel yes, I had talked to people with the 2.7 before I bought mine and a lot of them reported well over 20 highway , I had mine at the dealer and they just said nothing was wrong and keep driving it ,but what I did was scan the live data myself and noticed my long term fuel trim on 1 side was 2 and the other side was around 15 , so it's not enough difference to throw a code ,but was showing me there was a issue , that's why I was wanting to take it to a professional tuner to see if they could change the tune and balance it out because both sides should be below 5 generally if its running normal , I just never got to it , like I said I liked the truck, the engine ran like a sewing machine and it was comfortable to drive, so I just figured I got the one bad egg and moved on, but i still would recommend that engine and truck because I know a lot of happy 2.7 owners

@The Overdrive Consumer Channel yes, and that's the dealer for you, and it's not just Ford it's all of them, when I seen the data I went and took the MAF sensor out and cleaned it ,then do the reset on it, and let it run and no change, so I felt it may have a leaking O Ring on a fuel injector possibly, either way one bank was running rich and to narrow it down I would need a better scan tool to read injector output to figure out what one to take out ,But either way I moved on and hope nobody else has an issue

@remster11 The 16-18 mpg figures you give are from older trucks that don’t have the technology and 10 spd transmission like todays trucks.I kept a log on my ‘98 dodge I just sold two yrs ago that had every gal of gas put into it and the mpg. Hand calculated. It would get 11/18 I bought a 2.7 2018, supercrew, 2 wd, 3.55 gear , f150 to replace the dodge and so far have kept the same records. It’s pretty consistent with 19 mpg city/suburb driving. I just got back from an ohio to Houston trip , over 3000 mi, and got mpg figures of 22 mpg, 24 mpg , and 26 mpg on the tanks of 87. The first tank at 22 was because I was driving into a constant 30 mph headwind. And I drove at around 73-75 mph. And the 26 mpg tankful was actually at 77 to 83 mph for most of it. Again hand calculated. So these trucks can get fantastic mpg , the truck has about 25,000 mi on it

I may just grab a 2.7. 200,000 is the magic number, but with proper care and some luck 200,000 is highly likely. I'm going for a 2012 Toyota Tundra. The Coyote makes me nervous as does the 3.5 EB. I feel like people people are less likely to rag on a 2.7, or Tundra. If we would only think of the next guy when taking care of a truck. That could be somebody's way to work, and through everyday life. I had an '03 F150 that was fine, but I took it through deep water and it wasn'tthe same. At 45 now, I'm looking for a modest bare bones truck with FWD for here in Michigan.

The coyote has definitely had some problems and the 3.5 too. The biggest problem with the 3.5 eco is cam phasers and it appears they have resolved that with the new design. My 23 f150 is a 3.5 and my wife's expedition is a 3.5 however it just had a cam phaser job done under warranty. It's running like a champ. Obviously I’m a big fan of the 2.7 L but do the towing. I need the big 3.5 eco. My 18 2.7 ran like a champ with zero issues.

Your 5.3 could start blowing lifters at any time $$$$$$...GM ruined that great engine in 2007 with AFM style lifters.... On the F150's with the 3.5 just avoid 2017 - 2020 as those years have cam phaser issues.... apparently no stand out issues with any years of the 2.7 except one's shoe-horned into the new bronco's ...I think they did the same lame thing and those have internal water pumps due to NO ROOM....but in the F150's all water pumps are normal / exterrnal ....2.7 and 3.5 's

People find it hard to believe a 2.7 will last this long because of old school people like Scotty Kilmer. He thought Ford was going to fail. GM and Toyota has done the same thing. I bought my 2016 F165 new (F150 2.7 aka 165 cuin). It has 97k miles and I replaced a $20 coolant temp sensor @ 69k miles. I change my oil myself when the computer get to 15%. I have gone 8,900 miles before I change the Motorcraft 5w30 synthetic blend oil. I still don't have to add oil between oil changes. I did drop the transmission pan and filter @ 87k miles. The only other thing I did was use HP Tuner to raise the top speed to 120 mph. For some reason, the stop/start don't work anymore but I never liked it anyway.

I am in the market for buying a used truck and as of today I just started seriously considering the 2.7 eco-boost. I’ve found one that’s a 2015 crew cab 4x4 2.7 with 176k miles on it and they’re asking $16k for it. Its a 1 owner clean CARFAX truck. It’s at a lot not a individual so doubt there’s much wiggle room for the cost. What’s your thoughts on it? I don’t really tow at all except for our zero turn occasionally on my dads 6x12 trailer so not really anything at all in terms of towing. Seems like most things I’m seeing are positives on this engine and I only drive about 5-7k miles a year so not much miles getting racked up in my case which is why I’m considering a higher mileage purchase and also I’m trying to stay around that price range. @@kirk189 that's awesome! I love the 2.7 it's such a good build. Of course, there are little things that could be better but overall it's solid. Thanks for the feedback!

Biggest REGRET OF MY LIFE. I knew better. I Fu@king knew better. But I bought a ecoboost. 2.7 f150. I love the truck. But I HATE THE LOW POWER 2.7. it is trash. 3 months and I'm parking it covering it. Going back to my 2015 v8 XLT. THAT HAS FULL POWER HAS NO LAG. 4x4 is useless on A 2.7. Sounds like a Lil girls car. No top end at ALL. AND 4 TO 6 SECOND LAG ON TAKE OFF. I DO KNOT FELL SAFE ON INTERSTATE DRIVING THIS GARBAGE. The 2.7 struggled to tow my bass boat. In fact did better in regular mod. Tow mod is useless. It is a motor that should never been on a Man's truck.

Sorry the 2.7 didn’t work out for you. It’s possible you got a bad one…

@theoverdriveconsumerchanne4424 spends more time at Ford then it does with me. They say I'm expecting to much out of the 2.7. That the lag is normal. And that the power is normal. Well if that's normal. Then 2.7 is a joke . And the joke is on me 47,000.00 joke thanks Ford.

180k is not high mileage.
@theoverdriveconsumerchanne4424
@theoverdriveconsumerchanne4424 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. Actually it is. Here’s why, two reasons. First, the manufacturer’s “life expectancy” for our vehicles is 150k miles, that’s what they engineer vehicles work reliably to. Obviously modern vehicles can exceed that. Lastly, anything over 75k miles is considered “high mileage.” I don’t personally consider 75k to be high mileage but is considered to be. Last statement the reason this video is important. EcoBoost are constantly being criticized because they have turbos etc. zero mechanical issues for 180k is comparable to the v8s. Nice Ram by the way.

180K is far above what the average vehicle has at its age....such as mine with 200K when it turned 6. So at 12 theoretically it will have 400K. Thats not record setting but none the less high mileage. I can assure you that buyers aren't looking for a vehicle that has 180 to 200k on it at 5 or 6 years old. Including you.

My 3.5 2012 model had 352,500 on it. When sold it. No joke. Water pump failure-coolant issues/ dumbass ignoring problem for 2 days (me) messed it up. But still going. Just loss of power
