Another video had the 2.7 vs 5.3 pulling from about 40-70 mph with about the same weight you had. It took the 2.7 20 seconds vs 13 for the 5.3. That video was done at higher speeds overall and the difference was very clear at the higher speeds. From what I’ve seen, the 2.7 competes well up to that 50mph range (torque and gears) and then falls off pretty bad which seems to line up with watching your 2.7 struggling to get up that ramp. Didn’t seem like it could have gotten out of its own way once you had it at 50 mph on the grade. So overall from all the videos I’ve seen, the 2.7 seems like a decent setup at lower speeds or flat ground. Interstate speeds the v8 and the Ford turbos seem to have a pretty good edge. Or just get a 2500 if you are towing more than occasionally.

@@Theo-xi1jx thanks for watching! It pulls my trailer at just about any speed I want, not sure those 7 seconds really matter much over thousands of miles of towing. I usually set my cruise at 65 MPH and just truck on. I’m at about 10k miles towing campers on this truck. We recently bought a 6.2l V8 for my wife in an Escalade…That is a monster of an engine and it will take a lot of restraint on my part to keep from hitching it up just to try it out 😅.

Disclosure: I am NOT a GM man. Have had many GM products over the decades that were absolute crap over the long haul. That being understood, let me educate people about that ignorant "Little ole 4 cylinder" thinking. GM made the correct decision to go with the 2.7L inline 4 turbo to build into a torque monster. Ford has made a very poor decision to try to do the same with a 2.7L V6. Here's why and it ain't rocket science. The 2.7L inline 4 has the same bottom end, crankshaft and 5 main bearings of a 5.4 L V8. The 2.7L V6 has the bottom end, crankshaft and 4 main bearings of a 1.35L 3-cylinder. Care to guess which engine is going to have durability problems trying to pump out 400+ ft lbs of torque? I listened to a YT video from a very enthusiastic young engineer who helped build this 2.7L turbo 4 describe what went into designing and building the engine. The 2.7 L uses forged pistons and rods from diesel engines and is built to make well past 430 ft lbs of torque, and that 310 HP presently on the top end can easily be considerably higher. The 2.7L uses balance shafts to smooth normal vibration from such a large 4 cylinder. That inline 4 can easily go to 3.0L or even 3.5L. Imagine a 3.5 L inline turbo 4 making 560+ ft lbs of torque! That is a gas Inline turbo 4 getting into "diesel-grunt territory". And a 3.5 L inline 4 would have a hell of a lot stouter bottom end than a 3.5L V6! GM is really onto something here if GM management doesn't screw it up!

Curious on your thoughts about them leaving direct injection off. Seems that they made the same mistake Ford did in their first generation turbos. Seems like Fords 2.7 has been rock solid other than a batch of bad parts in late 3021 (similar to chevys bad batch of lifters on the 5.3 back around the same time..
@63DW89A
@63DW89A 19 күн бұрын
@@Theo-xi1jx Like any mechanical choice, there are good and bad points about direct injection versus throttle body injection. Direct injection allows more precise fuel control than throttle body, but also allows carbon build up on the intake side of the valve, which will eventually lead to poor valve seating and performance degradation. Throttle body keeps the intake side of the valve clean, but does not allow the precise, instantaneous fuel control that direct injection permits. Possibly having an engine with both direct and throttle body injection would be the way to go is my pure speculation, but I've never been able to pin an engineer down to as to the possibility of such a dual system. There are cleaning methods to slow the carbon build up down on direct injection, but not completely eliminate the build up. Do you have any ideas on that?
@Theo-xi1jx
@Theo-xi1jx 19 күн бұрын
@@63DW89Asorry, I was thinking of port injection. 2nd generation Ford 2.7 added port injection to its direct injection to stop the carbon buildup. Toyota followed suit, but then Chevy left it off, leading me to think the Chevy 2.7 is going to have carbon buildup.

Thank you for the great video! I’ve been eyeballing a 22 silver Silverado LT 2.7L HO with the refreshed interior for the last two months at our local chevy dealer. Which conveniently is right across the street from us, so it’s hard to miss lol. My wife and I have f250 tremor (7.3) on order since November with no word on the build date. We ordered the f250 with plans on buying a camper this spring/ summer. Some of the campers we were looking at were teetering the line of a 1/2 tons capability, (34’ 7,600lb dry weight) so we decided a 3/4 ton would be the best fit for us. We needed a new vehicle and decided we didn’t want wait any longer for the f250. With interest rates continuously going up and the possibility the truck may not be built this year and we would have to bump it to a 2023 model with a larger price hike, we decided to buy that 22 Silverado last Friday to get us by until our f250 is built. I have to admit, I’m very impressed with the truck so far. From the interior, ride comfort, towing & payload specs and most importantly the price, I feel this really is the best bang for your buck! After watching your video and any other video I could find about towing with the 2.7 (95% were non HO) my wife and I decided to go with a slightly smaller camper (28.1’ 6,144lb dry weight) and cancel our F250 Tremor order, which cost roughly $25k more than our Silverado. so thank you! Keep up the good work and I can’t wait to watch some more of your towing videos! Also, what are the specs on your camper? I know you mentioned 31’ and 7,200lb, but is that actually camper length or is that from tongue to back bumper? Also, is the 7,200lb a dry weight or is that what it weighs with all your camping gear?
@79champions
@79champions 2 жыл бұрын
I can tell you my camper is 32 feet tongue to rear, weighing about 6800 lbs, with a tongue weight of about 700 lbs pretty close to the max of the towing. I too got tired of waiting and trying to find a hd truck. I tow that thing a few times per year, so the 2.7 was a good option for the rest of the time. I can tell you from trips this year so far, it tows just fine. Definitely can feel it back there a little more, but it is not wanting at all for get up and go. No need for an hd for us now

Hi Friend! I came from a Tahoe and I know the pain! My truck is like night and day at times. The Tahoe was great but took a lot of work to dial it in and it was never 100% there. The Tahoe really needs a Hensley Arrow hitch for many travel trailers. It’s just too short. Monteagle is a serious interstate grade in Tennessee. It’s about 4.5 miles up and I think the steepest grade is 6% and it’s very curvy. Here is a newer video of me towing up another mountain with our new 9k lb travel trailer. This is Cagle Mountain in Dunlap, TN and is about 6 miles up 8%. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rauoaYuOg6uci9k No problems at all!

Back when I was in the national guard, we took a convoy of semi trucks down this pass with armored humvees and other equipment on our flatbeds. Some of the inexperienced drivers didn't know to use their jake brakes and you could smell the stench of roasting brake pads the whole way down, may not be as extreme as IKE, but it's not a joke, I had the jake on full the entire way down and still had to pump my service brakes regularly to not overspeed.

So glad to see this; we went there with our Previous TT. And then once again with our new TT we took delivery of 2022 Grand Design XLS 22mle Feb 4th in Cookeville, TN. We drove up from Miami, Florida to Galatin, TN and then traded in our TT for the new Imagine XLS 22mle at Cookeville RV & Marine. Now we're towing with the same engine GMC 2.7l 2020 Elevation crew cab riding on 20's. We have towed now 17K miles. We actually did better on MPG's there then i got into Florida, flat land. The reason supposedly by the service manager at GMC; mentioning the low end torque that benefits the mpg's when towing up grades and then of course on the way down etc. I was averaging 11.0 to 12.1 traveling at 64-65 mph where as here in Florida 62-64 only gets me in normal conditions 9.9-10.5 mpg's .. I have 11 mths left on lease. Looking at the new F150 Hybrid due to the power bank it has for boondocking. And if that doesn't workout i'm buying this truck again but supposedly now it comes with 430 pounds feet of torque, is that correct? and next time in a 4x4; I'll need a larger motor or more boost for the Colorado and Western mountains. I have yet to go that way. But we love Tennessee 🌅🏁 And plan to Winter Camp again in Bledsoe State Park, TN we stayed there 7 days. We had 3 nights dropped to 19, 20, 22 degrees. Our new camper handled it with easy.

If you don’t mind me asking. How often do you tow the camper? I looking to get a 1500 truck to tow my old classic car & I won’t be towing alot. Not often will i tow it far distances, but being that I won’t do alot of towing. I just don’t see the need in getting a 2500HD truck.

Hi! I tow about 1-2 times per month on average. This truck is very stout and I highly recommend it. I get about 20-22 mpg average if I behave. That little turbo is fun! But a 3/4 ton gas truck would get much worse MPG.

I love the mirror extensions! I’ve thought about buying the factory style towing mirrors but I would have to give up the extra mirror that I currently have. I really like being able to use the factory mirror to point at the blind spots and the towing mirror extensions to point down the side of the camper. Match made in heaven. Out of curiosity why would you get a 2.7L? When the 5.3L and 6.2L exist.
@jeremsgarage
@jeremsgarage 2 жыл бұрын
Honestly, they are the future of the GM trucks. I’ve owned the 5.3l. And I mean no disrespect here but the 2.7l is so far ahead of either V8 its not even close. Mostly the following reasons: 1) No AFM lifter issues 2) Very Fuel Efficient- I’m seeing a legitimate 25 MPG hwy and 21-22 mixed driving (if I behave) 3) less hard parts in the rotating assembly. 4 vs 8 4) engine pulls like a diesel- all the TQ is down low and maintains a flat tq curve until high RPM 5) with the new HO option for the 2022 Refresh the TQ is equal or greater (not sure) than the 6.2l. Don’t let the 310 HP fool you. That power is all down low. With the V8’s you have to spin them up to get the max power ratings. BUT… the V8’s are good engines and great choices. I think the 10 speed is only available in the V8’s if that is important to you Thanks for the question!

@jeremsgarage
@jeremsgarage 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the comment! There are several different forums for the 2.7l Silverado with many examples of people getting close to the 100k mile mark. One thing that reassured me on this engine is that it is an inline design, designed from the ground up as a truck engine, and it being a single turbo there is 50% less parts to fail (and 50% less parts to replace down the road.) The 2.7l Ecoboost is a fantastic engine as well. I don't think that you will lose with either platform. I am not sure of the max tow rating for the 2.7L Ford but the 2.7l GM being over 9,000 lbs for me was a major factor. I generally keep my vehicles to 150k miles plus and will keep this channel updated with my experience with this particular truck. Thanks again for watching!
