Personally, I love that digital instrument cluster, and I think overall Iike it better than the Tundra. My preference is the classic rounded, which is really sharp. Generally, seems like a hugely improved interior, which I think GM realized it needed badly.

I bought a 2022 Chev ltz in August & put 6,000 miles on it. It was the worst truck I have ever owned. The ride was like riding in a kids western flyer wagon. I sold it after 2 months. It was the best 8,000 dollar loss that I have ever had. I was so glad to see it go away. Thank goodness that I was able to find a ford.

Great review. These companies aren't making these little engines to piss people off. It costs enormous amounts of money and time to develop them. They are under tremendous pressure to go with smaller engines and to heavily invest in EV. I predict that within 20 years you won't be able to buy a new V8. I hope I'm wrong. I love my 6.2 but these little turbos are the future whether we like it or not. It wasn't that long ago that full size V8 sedans were everywhere. Now they are gone forever.

@@williamerazo3921 Toyota doesn't make long lasting cars anymore? What metrics do you measure that by? They're extremely conservative in changes and testing new powertrains. Their hybrid ECVTs for example in Rav4/Hylander/Sienna/Prius (for example) are based on same ones made 20 years ago and just been refined each generation. All those also come with naturally aspirated engines and the ECVTs are less complex and higher reliability then auto transmissions. New turbo engines like in Tundra have no history to show relability. Will have to wait 3+ years.

@Michael H Both the 8 and 10 speeds are serviceable. They have 2 methods of filling them with fluid (the plug where the dipstick used to be or the dealer pan plug fill method) and the fluid level can be checked via the level check plug in the pan. They just aren't as DIY friendly, but they can be serviced.

If you're waiting for prices to go down they won't on new autos. You'd need deflation for prices to go down (central banks won't allow deflation, claim to target 2% when we're currently at 8.5% as reported by fake government numbers. Real inflation around 17% year over year). Used autos might go down a tad with gigantic price jumps last couple years but even then unlikely with massive money printing by central banks last 2 years led by US (40% of all US dollars printed ever done in last 2 years).

This is also why they discontinued the 6 speed and now pair the V8 in the fleet model with the 10 speed. For 2023 we will also see a 10 speed for the gas engine in the HD trucks. @@james2042 Hmm. Yes with this and many other things it's just a vocal minority painting a bad picture. Thanks for the reassurance though. You seem to know your stuff regarding GM trucks so I'll believe you. I'm currently looking at the 5.3L V8 or the 3.0L Diesel. The 5.3L because it's a V8. That engine configuration is just legendary and they are only getting fewer and also the higher peak power. The 6.2L apparently has significantly worse fuel economy than the 5.3L and it also says you should use premium gasoline. I thought modern engines can handle lower octane gas well and would just make less power and consume a bit more fuel but according to comments on the internet (best source, amirite) it makes unusual sounds and is noticably weaker on regular gas. The Diesel because of range, fuel economy and torque. According to EPA numbers you save quite a bit on fuel with the diesel even though diesel is more expensive but maybe maintenance and repairs are more expensive than the V8 so it might make the lead narrower. Do you know anything about the octane thing and the actual fuel economy you'd expect from these engine and maybe the diesel costs too? Edit: Also there's the chip shortage and the fuel economy impacts of it. There are a shit ton of Silverados and their engines on the EPA website. How am I supposed to know what is what?

Alex, thank you for the great review as always. My question is why get a pickup truck over a van, say a RAM 3500, albeit, it has no AWD, but similarly for Ford Transit which does have AWD option. But the question is what can a pickup do that a van of say 2500/3500 cannot do, other than over the bed drop of certain cargo? I am just wondering why a pickup is so popular, since I spoke with two owners of pickups of Ford and Chevy, but they both prefer their Chevy cargo van.
@BiggyMak
@BiggyMak 2 жыл бұрын
Towing, proper 4WD for offroad, bigger payload, tons of aftermarket options for those wanting to customize their ride, the list goes on ... People shopping for a pickup truck know what they want that a van does not offer and I'd say that at least more than half of truck buyers use their trucks for their intended purpose whether, its offroad, towing, etc... A van has tons of limitations outside the whole vanlife and cargo work utility.

Have to admit, they should just put the work truck front grill on all models. It looks better IMO, could be a flow chevrolet grill by hollowing it out. The chintzy gold bow-tie is tacky. Also it's expected the new Colorado is to get the 10 speed auto. Why are they still running the 8 speed in the Silverado?

Was the 5.3 available in 99? I thought the C/K was only available with the older 5.7. My '99 F-150 SCab 2wd w/ 5.4 was able to get 21mpg highway (I think I had a tune for it). But city mileage was pretty par for the course at like 14-15. And lets not forget that this new engine not only moves a larger/heavier vehicle, but makes like 50hp and 100lb/ft more than comparable trucks from 20 years ago while getting (arguably) better overall fuel economy.

The 5.3 liter V8 has more cylinders and less torque. I’d buy the 2.7 for the torque number, not the cylinder count. GM has invested a ton of money in improving the 2.7 engine and has made it the base engine in several Cadillac models.

I wish they didn’t push the garbage 4 cylinder so hard like it gets the same if not less gas mileage than the 5.3 it’s absolutely useless. And Chevy killed the 5.3 with the cylinder deactivation. They had it in the Cadillacs 20 years ago and they were garbage then. They knew it was garbage in the first place so why continue to ruin a reliable v8. I ripped the afm out of my Silverado and got the same gas mileage. 16 city/22 highway. Absolutely useless

Really wish any/all reviewers would tell you where it makes the torque. In a truck 400ftlbs is great at 1500rpm but worthless at 5k rpm.. generally these turbo 4s don't make the torque in the right spot.

What kind of gotcha maintenance blunder does this truck have? It's a Chevy so it's gotta have some kind of ridiculous design decision like the Diesel where you have to drop the transmission to change a drive belt at 200,000 miles. Looking forward to Ram's Hurricane engines and whether they too will have some kind of issue. While the 8-speed may be a let down, I'm hopeful that the garbage pre-refresh interior was the only snafu of this truck.
