John, your lessons are very inspiring! People must know that you have more than 40 video lessons in the member area of your website. I 'm a year member and for me it sure is worth the money. For the price of two half hour lessons at the music school you get 41 video lessons! All amazingly easy to practice and play along and perfect for a Jazz drummer. Especially your last new lesson in the series on Elvin Jones triplets is great! Since the SVDL video number is now also printed on top of the transscripts each video can be quickly found for practicing. I binded the transcripts devided per subject. Thanks!

I'm right handed so I like to lead this pattern with my right hand. It works fine with a left hand lead, but will sound slightly different. Check out Dave Weckl's triplet section in my book, "Essential Drum Lessons with The Greats". In his lesson, he offers a variety of triplet variations with a few of different sticking options.

Nice!! Wich model is your Gretsch drum here ?
@hawkrider8810 жыл бұрын
John, This crossing the bar line material is very helpful. However most of what you are doing here is still "in tempo"...and fairly easy to count and find "one". What about fills that are really outside the tempo of the tune...how does one learn to not get lost and more importantly...come back in on one? I hate to memorize all my fills and would like the freedom to play whatever I want (with good musical sense) but not get lost or even lose track of how many bars I've played. Thanks!
@JohnXDrumLessons10 жыл бұрын
Figure out your fill concepts at home, perfect them, then try them when playing live. The concepts I've laid out are just a starting point. Also, transcribe solos and 4's from the jazz masters, learn what they played, then develop your own ideas from there.
