Since it's wise to lift the boat out of the water and do a survey on the narrowboat. Might as well do a blacking on the hull while you are at since you will be good for 2-3 years.

Are those all cockel shells that have attached themselves to the hull? Is that bad for the hull? Do you scrape all of that off before putting it back in the water?

Hi Tony some useful videos here, and you have the perfect narrowboat dog, albeit without her doggy paddle certificate. I've been looking at boats that are overplated, it sounds like you got the right chap for yours. Just wondered if you gleaned any info on overplating,. I have a few questions if you have time 1 is it 'as good as new' structurally speaking? 2 will it last another 30yrs before it needs overplating again or can it only be done once?

Hello Paul again 😆. I am probably not the best person to ask. Yes, it adds years to the life of the boat. I was told probably at least 25. But you know it's all about getting the boat out of the water every 3/4 years. Speak, to your local boat yard engineer. I have found they are always happy to share their experience.

25 years is pretty good, I used to be in a boat club for over 10 years, funny how the subject never came up, There was a lovely 25ft narrowboat next to mine, I never saw it come out of the water, then one day it wasn't there the hull gave way. (boat heaven now) You are right regular maintenance ... 'ship shape' not 'shit shape' :)

Do you need a fishing license to harvest all those muscles from the canal? Spend a year cruising around in Scallop waters, make some money next time you lift the boat covered in scallops?
