This brings back memories. We found this exact computer (xw4600) in a friend's basement. He gifted it to me and it even had an e8400 and 4 gigs of ddr2. I upgraded it with a gts250 and sold it for 15€ 😂

I STILL have a couple of ancient, rusty computer cases with the electronics removed. Your video makes me want to screw in some Raspberry Pi boards in them and make really absurd-looking retro computers. Or...I could use them under a wooden board and make them into a coffee table. The possibilities for these old machines can be endless if only we just sit quietly for a little bit...and imagine...and allow the ideas to flow. Mahalo for another great video!

My first time playing around with virtual machines was on a xw4600 back in spring 2012. That was in a school computer lab full of them with Core2 Quad Q9550, 4GB RAM, Quadro FX 1800, Windows 7. Back then my own PC only had a Pentium 4 HT 3.0GHz and 1GB RAM. In 2013 I bought my first good PC which was a HP Z400 with a Xeon W3520 (i7-920), 6GB RAM, Quadro FX 1800, Win7. A bit later upgraded the RAM to 12GB RAM and the GPU to a GTX 660.

I just discovered your channel and this is me watching my second video of yours. One kindly suggestion I do have already: You accumulated a lot of knowledge with Windows and old(er) Hardware. Your videos could give even more value to the viewership if you would categorise / classify some of the details / products. For example you mentioned Windows 7, Vista, XP, Win 98 et cetera. Surely one could pause your video and google these products, probably read some Wikipedia about it. But if you were to mention in passing that Windows 7 is the successor to Windows Vista. And Vista was the direct successor to Windows XP, which is a successor to Windows 2000 for business users and Windows ME for home users. Windows ME (Millennium Edition) is the successor to Windows 98 et cetera. Maybe not talk like that, I have just copied some parts of Wikipedia. But you get my request, that it would help to understand the details like the different Windows generations and how that is important to rebuilding older computers. It is even more needed with all those CPU and GPU generations and chipset code names like Sandy Bridge etc. Not everyone remembered those details from back in the days or didn’t learn them now - because where could one even learn those details today? Almost all KZbin videos about old Windows versions and older Hardware take this kind of knowledge for granted. So it’s not easy to start learning this stuff if you didn’t grew up with it AND (!) wasn’t actively working with these Windows and Hardware back in the days.
@schvabek7 күн бұрын
@@paulhorn24 Hey, Paul, glad you found my channel. Also, thanks for the input. To be honest, I haven’t gotten similar requests yet, but I do understand where you’re coming from. I do, however, get comments all the time about taking too long to get to the point, so yeah, there’s really no pleasing everyone. It’s not that I assume that everybody knows everything coming into my video, it’s just that I have a certain topic, and although I could talk about different side notes, sometimes it just feels like I’d drift too far off. This video was about seeing what could be done with a cheap old computer. Hopefully the way I do videos doesn’t annoy you too much, and you keep enjoying them. Cheers!
@paulhorn246 күн бұрын
@ no, not annoying. That’s all I have to say regarding your channels, your videos. But more generally speaking: I have a very strong aversion to all demands for brevity and quick texts and videos. I find all demands to be brief extremely annoying and dangerous. Why? Because with this increasing “fast food” knowledge transfer, where everything is only allowed to be a few hundredths of a second long, knowledge doesn't grow, only stupidity becomes more and more widespread. Simple solutions, simple explanations are no longer possible nowadays because everything is so complex and connected with everything. Perhaps there were never any simple explanations, it just felt that way? Simple explanations only ensure that many things are no longer correctly grasped and understood and that many things are no longer properly thought through. Far too many people stop thinking after a simple explanation and share the biggest nonsense that, with a little common sense and basic knowledge, would be immediately recognised as nonsense. But they share this nonsense over and over again, and the biggest lies have now become reality for many Amen 😉 Or maybe better: JM2C.

@@iamtafara Nope. The auction site takes 20 cent cut from the sold item, if it sold for less than $3.
@WeatherMan200512 күн бұрын
it probably cost more power to run for the video than the bid honestly. they might as well of given it away lol
@iamtafara12 күн бұрын
@@schvabekEven if the auction employee took only 5 mins to get the item in, list it, conduct the auction and dispatch the item, it definitely isn’t worth it for 20 cents. Thats what I’m trying to say. If the employee earns 15 an hr, and uses 5 mins for the whole process, then they are paying him $1.25 for that task. There is no way it will ever be financially viable to run a $2 auction.
@schvabek12 күн бұрын
@@iamtafara There are people on auction sites like that making a living reselling old stuff. Some of them have hundreds of listings every week, many of them starting at $1. Some items go for a $1.
