I was 13 & this was my first college game. Got in free through the Boy Scouts; wasn't a fan of either team. Spent the game going to the concession stand for anyone who wanted me to go for them. Made quite a bit of money in tips. Towards the end of the game, w/ my back to the field, I heard what sounded like the stadium about to collapse. It scared me. I turned around & I saw a guy in a white jersey running away from a bunch of guys in orange jerseys. Been a Georgia fan ever since.

Herschel Walker is the best player I've seen in college. He almost single-handedly took Georgia from nowhere to best in the SEC for 3 consecutive years. An incredible impact he had in Athens and the best I have seen playing college football.

With all due respect to Johnny Manziel; Herschel Walker should have been the 1st freshman to win the Heisman back in 1980...
@Mark-sj3xb4 жыл бұрын
Kirkindog WHY? why apologize to Manziel. He’s an entitled jerk who squandered away his natural gift. Everybody knows Herschel should have won the Heisman in ‘80. Which also means he’s really a two time winner. He deserved it more in 80 than 82 in fact. There was always a bias against freshmen back then because in 1980 they were only a few years removed from freshman not being eligible to play varsity by NCAA rules.

No one in Athens that day will ever forget the swing from despair to insanity with Scott's touchdown. I was at Smoke's Bar and got thrown to the ground and almost smushed by a fern planter. On the way home Donna told me Georgia Tech had tied Notre Dame. What a great day.

This was the 1st UGA game I ever attended! I was 11 yrs.old & my parents & I drove from Savannah in our R/V & we did it ever year after for my birthday! Herschel Walker is definitely the greatest rb in college football history! During his 3 yrs. every team the Dawgs faced knew Herschel was getting the ball 30+ times a game so most defenses would stack 8 or 9 guys on the line to stop him& they never could! This was & is the greatest UGA game ever, not only because of the miracle 93 yd. pass from Belue to Scott to win the game but because it was against the Gators!
@lb94223 жыл бұрын
WOW! It has been 40 years since I saw this game. I have seen the Belue to Scott play called by Larry Munson at least a hundred times. I forgot that Al Michaels was the person calling the play by play on TV. I also forgot that there was 1:03 left to play in the game. Again...WOW!

These are 2 of the best teams in the country. Georgia won the championship on Jan 1st. Buck B. was the quarterback the whole game .he completed one pass.maybe he went 1 for 17 or so.The fighting Irish had at least 5 turnovers. Then I think about the best quarterbacks in modern times that won it all.Danny W.....Chris Leaks.....Tebow.....And Burrows from LSU.i just cant believe in 25 years the quarterbacks have improved this much.i bet Burrows and Tebow in there senior years at college would have been by far the best two quarterbacks in the NFL in 1980

Great ending if you are a Georgia fan. Sad for the Florida folks. I noticed how much better people in the stands looked then. I especially noticed the Florida cheerleaders. They were pretty and enthused. They performed their routines and had the Florida fans wired up. Things were better then. Sports teaches valuable lessons without as intractable results as real life (except for the coaches who have to earn a living by winning). Here the Dawgs never gave up and their persistence paid off with a dramatic last minute win that set the stage for their winning the national championship. Never Give Up!

In the marvelous 2002 Florida Gators football oral history book (oral/narrative from 1946 to 2001), Gator DB Tim Groves (#20) said he got a hand on Lindsay Scott at the UF 8-yard line during that classic 93-yard TD pass to win this game. Bullshit. Groves didn't even touch Scott during the entire runback. Groves was very fast, but Scott was faster. Regardless, what a play.
