So unfortunate to have these kiln problems at such a busy time! I thought some of the overfired pieces looked lovely, in a rustic way! Good luck in your markets, and glad to see you are back up and running. Literally, at this time of year. Cheers!

Hi back, Lisa!Awwww! Thanks so much for the shout out! Oh, Gosh! I feel your pain about the disaster firing! Thanks for sharing, though. It shows how much we can lose if a firing goes wrong. Ya, the floating blue on white clay (I use Plainsman 370) is GORGEOUS! Love your Ode to Heritage Roads mug. I learned something new! Take care! Happy Creating!

I have to say that I really love the over fired pots!! It’s so interesting what the glazes do at different temps. I’m glad you were able to refire some of them so that you were happy with them. I absolutely LOVE this community and how everyone is so willing to share glaze combos and help eachother out. We all enjoy your kiln openings so much. I’m so glad your son was able to fix the kiln!!

I did my last show for the season today and made 4 thumb cups inspired by yours. I used PSH speckled clay and glazed it inside with PSH white gloss and outside with PSH Sno Matte, then I put 2 bands of Soft red along the top. they turned out great and I sold one of them today. it was a quieter sale at a brewery and my first time there. Thanks for the inspiration and the failures as well as the successes. Been there, done that!

So happy your son could diagnose and fix the kiln issue. Kudos to you for saving/refiring pieces as well. You brought up a good idea to have kiln parts on hand so I will be ordering back ups tomorrow. Thanks for sharing the ups and downs of pottery!

Beautiful pieces tho!! How do you fire upside down? Like how do you get a stilt not to stick to the glaze? So curious!
@finklepottery7047 ай бұрын
I’ve only tried a couple of times. Jon the Potter does it all the time with a specific mug he makes. You put a stilt on top of a kiln post and fire upside down for the second firing. The trickiest part is to get it balanced so it doesn’t stick to the kiln post while firing. You just smooth out the anything left by the stilt with a dremel. With a shot when the mug is beyond grinding. I think the jon the potter mugs are called insanity mugs.

Hi, I’ve yet to have success with Soft Red and would love some advice! My last mug had 2 layers 1/3 top and overlapping with riverbirch. It ran to the bottom and looked very washed out. :(
@finklepottery7047 ай бұрын
What cone are you firing to? I am using 3 coats and firing to about a cone 5 1/2
@sophiav.53847 ай бұрын
@@finklepottery704 the studio says they fire to 6, but they don’t use witness cones, so I’m not positive the kiln reaches a 6. I would love to see that pink pop, but it hasn’t in my attempts.
@finklepottery7047 ай бұрын
@@sophiav.5384 frustrating when you don’t have any control. If you have Winterwood you could try that. River birch is very runny when overlapped with other glazes. The pink I get is soft but distinct. Maybe try 3 layers of soft red with Winterwood or a cream or a white not as runny as river birch.
@sophiav.53847 ай бұрын
@@finklepottery704 thanks, it is def frustrating not having full control. :( I will take your advice and try it with other glazes and see what happens.
