My hope is that the Jade Blood get added to the Vampire Coast instead of Vampire Counts or Cathay. VCounts already has enough trouble fully representing the 5 Bloodlines it has now. They don't need any more added to their plate. Meanwhile, VCoast needs new content. The current minor faction the Dead Flag Fleet and their leader Zheng Shih is an obvious reference to real life Chinese pirate admiral Zheng Yi Sao and her "Red Flag Fleet". I'd love to see them get fleshed out into a real faction and LL.

Thanks for your great videos! I like that you discuss this topics. I just wonder why you choose only the non-canon names. The Nagash novel series, that features Neferatas court in Lahmia quiet intensive, is (I guess) canon and does provide interesting names too. In this case especially Naamia, since she is originally from Cathay and the novel indicates that she was going back there, shortly before the fall of Lahmia. I would like to see here, more so than a non-canon addition. What do you think about this possibility?

On the Jade Blooded I think it would be interesting to have a Jade Blooded Legendary Lord who is all about getting shit done with the rest of your lords being some kind of Wight Undead or Mortal necromancer servant. Would be a more interesting play style.

Instead of Ind vampires, Mahtmasi could be a very interesting horde vampire faction, building their own moving tent cities across Araby, the badlands, and the trade routes near Zar Nagrund. It would be an interesting faction gaining blood kisses by razing settlements (which then cause like really heavy insect attrition to all armies in the local region). The vampires in Ind remind me a lot more of the Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom movie (likely also GW's inspiration for them) so that's also pretty different from the Mahtmasi. But if Mahtmasi were a horde faction, they could show up anywhere (like savage orks and beastmen) and that would add to the diversity of those events all over the warhammer world.

Honestly what we need is a cathay Vampire dragon lord, honestly id say it would be intressting to see it play closer to the regular cathay but possibly giving army bonuses for breaking harmony etc

There's something better, if you check out the curse of nongchang mod, that's a fan made jade blooded faction with Cathay mechanics that dives deep into chinese mythology. Great book of grudges has posted a video about it, check it out and see for yourself!

Just a thought, the Jaded Blooded (at least those powerful enough to become LLs) could be spread around the fringes of Cathay in some of the regions that currently lack lore, like Ind and Nippon.

Funny part is that the jade blooded ( and the now known Ind bloodline ) should be added to Cathay and Ind respectively as their dark counterparts, while the VCoast side could get some re-used models. That's cuz they're much closer to VCounts in terms of how they function than coast ( but I'm not against adding a new vampire coast faction to add variety tho ) i do agree with you there.

If you check out the curse of jiangshi, that's the jade blooded mod made by a fan that dove deeply into chinese mythology. I'd really love to see them made that way tbh. Cuz they play similar to counts and Cathay at the same time.

This kinda reminds me of a vampire/human Fanfic faction on the Total War Forums. A user named sykall postet a concept for a faction based on the Yoruba and other west-african cultures who are lead by a unique bloodline based on the west african Assambosam. Basicly tree vampires. It was a nice read I'd say

I'm sure there was a passage in the bloodlines army book that spoke of a vampire that went to the east and another that went into the northern wastes. It would be pretty cool to see undead warriors of chaos or norse minis.

I remember in one of the Nagash books in the time of legends series, the Jade blooded being mentioned. Neferata turned the ambassador to Cathay into a vampire on one of his visits in order to get a hold of some information and trade goods or something and that ambassador became the sire to the Jade blooded and on his return he tried to take power for himself leading Cathay into centuries of unrest. Not much is said beyond that but as far as I know those books are cannon.

Image a Dog's of War campaign in tww3, where the campaign is determined by the contract you take. if you take this Araby contract, your nemesis is the mahtmasi and you have to travel araby building an army of renown like the grudgebearers in dark omen. You pick up allies from various races in your travels before a final confrontation.

An interesting concept about the mahtmasi could be inspired in having ghoulish / zombie / monster units that are riddled with insect parasites. The vampires themselves would be inspired on their indian mythology counterpart the Vetala. In some depictions they look like more emaciated vargheists, but they could retain their couciousness and they're slightly different. There are other gaunt depictions too, check em out if you Google Vetala.

An odd person that I don't see brought up in this discussion is Naaima. At least according to the wiki she was given the elixir of life, so she would technically maybe be another bloodline, but she's always referred to as a Lahmian.

The Nagash books had (IMO) a more interesting group of vampires in her court including Naaima, she never seems to make any of her own vampires - she is noted as being part of the End Times and also mentioned as being with Neferata in AOS

I much prefer the vampires detailed in the Nagash/Neferata novels especially Naaima and Ankhat - Naaima is also mentioned in AOS and the End Times as part of several battles. As Naaima is Cathayan she would be an obvious choice to include with CA's focuss on there.

Thanks. That's what I think as well. There is a canon lore with the novel series that flashes out the original court. Naaima as a canon character from Cathay would be the best choice for a Cathay-JadeBlood-Vampire theme.

Is it bad that I imagine the Mahtmasi to be more insect-like in design - their ancient skin slowly layering into a thick carapace with sharp claws...Their wings more akin to a fly or locust rather than the signature bat of many of the usual bloodlines? Sharp mandibles attached to the sides of their blood-sucking mouths as they tend to have a slight buzz in their voice?

I'd be totally down to bring these bloodlines into canon and TWW3. need to move arkhan though. The buggy boys can move into the mountains where the dwarven prospectors are, and the jade blooded could have influenced the indian vamps as they passed through.

Honestly the Mahtmasi sound like they'd more be a rare unit for an Arabyan (or dogs of war) faction rather than a faction in their own right. If they get into total war as well could even do something interesting like have them produce vampiric corruption. Make an Arabyan player have to balance between using these powerful units and dealing with the vampiric corruption plaguing their provinces.

I remember reading about the Jade Blooded and Mahtmasi years ago, and the Jade Blooded were the ones I was most interested in. I feel like the Mahtmasi were created before Prince Apophas (I might be wrong) and were inspired kind of by the film The Mummy. I imagine the Jade Blooded being almost like Vampiric Slann, with the image of the corrupt Chinese Eunuch mixed with the stereotype of the opium smoker in early modern times. The Mahmasi I never quite liked, I just always felt they were a bit weird, although the mercenary part of it is interesting. What I really really regret, is that they didn't retconn the Vampire Coast to make them a Voodoo bloodline with its own aesthetics and lore.

yeah, honestly, none of the stuff in the source is too outlandish for Warhammer Fantasy, the toughest one is definitely the deal with Araby, but we also know that Araby basically needs to be retconned/rewritten in the first place, it wouldn't be hard to sort of shift their focus a little, especially in total war. If I recall (unless they changed it) there's still a contingent of Strigoy on the TW map right by Repanse, which could easily be changed to be followers of Mahtmasi, who would make a great antagonist to the inclusion of Araby. (presuming we get them both, which I hope we do... you know, variety is the spice of life as they say.) It would also give Araby a good lore starting point/plot point to be dealing with this group of Vampires over good old Jafar, who... lets face it... might be a little weird (not that I think the Jafar character needs to be removed, but perhaps changed to be a less than savory leader of one of the Arabian cities or something could make sense.)

There is some really cool stuff in the Jade-Blooded but holy cow does it need a rewrite! Partly because there is some really clever model re-use options for GW but partly because there are some serious problems. Let's start with the problems. I really wanted to get to use less aggressive language with this but the further you went on the worse it got. The whole drug portion of the Jade-Blooded is REALLY Racist ESPECIALLY from a British author. This is on the level of the Pygmies and the official name of the Goblin Ballista. You can still have Opium play a role but keep it to minor flavour in the background and/or a way to get a Cathayan faction for the Vampire Coast. The second is that it doesn't include anything actually inspired by Chinese myths or legends related to Vampires; having the Jade-Blooded and not invoking the Jiangshi would be incredibly silly. Now let's look at the big opportunities available to them, and I'll break it down further and give my reasoning below, but tl;dr? NIGHTHAUNT We currently really lack Vampires who make use of or expand in any meaningful way the roster of Ethereal units in the game. If they were to introduce this bloodline in Old World and Total War, having existing casts to work from would make things far easier! But how do you explain that in Lore? Cathay has this really cool under-explained thing in its story that is connected to their realms of Death and the Ethereal Undead. The Spirit Dragon; a Cathayan Dragon already claimed to be effectively dead. What happens when a Vampire drinks from a powerful Dragon? I imagine the ripple effects from that could easily be used explain "Soul Sucking Eunuchs" and give them a connection to both Ethereal Undead and the Lore of Yin. Another big advantage is that it could be used to give them a natural rivalry with Yuan Bo or Li Dao. Or they could go spicier, and give a connection between the Spirit Dragon and The Monkey King (consort/companion/champion) that would explain why the Emperor and Empress are quite so chill with the Monkey King in general. Perhaps he took the Imperial Throne while they were distracted as a result of Hakarte's invasion and the Vampire wars tied to him. Maybe as a rule they only convert Shugengan, which would give them a cool new Vampiric Lord, and Jiangshi are the much weaker results of turning low-blooded people into Vampires. Get a nice fodder unit and a good reason for a group to have rebelled and gone Vampire Coast

Honestly very little was established about Cathay when I wrote this. Now id need to revise this. The drugs aren’t a reference to opium but I can see how you got there. Much of this was based on the great Jackie Chan film Mr Vampire and the Jet Li films Once Upon A Time In China.
