2 Mercian, Queen's Royal Hussars and Grenadier Guards march in Worcester

The Mercian Regiment and the Queen's Royal Hussars recently returned from Afghanistan and here they march through Worcester in a homecoming parade. It was also a Freedom March for 2 Mercian and the Grenadier Guards - both were granted the Freedom of Worcester in 1993.

Super Flan Thanks for that tribute - the Mercians draw their recuits from the West Midland counties - these lads are local, speak with the same accent, know the same towns and villages and belong to regiments that have deep histories. My paternal grandfather died in 1918 serving with the Worcestershire Regiment.

Why did the grenadier guards didn't a bigger cheer than the other regiments the went to afghan as well. Plus they have been in every mager battle. My regiment soon

I'm guessing the Mercians being the local regiment would obviously get the biggest cheers despite everyone loving the sight of the Grenadiers. The Grenadiers were also in ceremonial uniform so the public would connect more with the regiments who looked like they'd just returned from Afghanistan.

I'm guessing because they guards being in bear skins and tunics people don't realise that they have been to Afghanistan

Andrew Kelsall I'd say you're right Andrew, the Mercians is very much a local regiment that recruits from the Midland counties - these are local lads. The Grenadiers put on a brave show too and good old Worcester (The Faithful City) "Done the lads proud."

Guards pretty good, but must be difficult to march behind their scarlet coats when your shirt is hanging outside your trousers! Like camouflage jammies. Surely someone can anonymously pay for some regimental belts! No adverse criticism of the young men at all, but those old regiments which make up the Mercians deserve better. I know they'd rather have better equipment etc, but a few belts ..... Adopt a regiment!

+Insperato62 thankfully most regiments tuck their shirts in now and wear stable belts and it looks much neater.

What are you talking about?Wearing a belt would change their attire from 'jammies' to uniform?They are wearing camouflage, NOT dress uniforms!
