The color Anne Hataway is wearing is the famous Valentino Red, the trademark color of the Italian couture brand, which is a very particular shade of crimson with a yellowish hue. I agree that a richer shade of red would have been a lot more flattering to Anne's complexion, but maybe Mr. Valentino really wanted Anne, who by that time had a very close relationship with the brand, to wear its most representative color. Nicole Kidman's haute couture chartreuse dress by Dior was just out of the runway and is by far one of the hardest dresses to wear ever, not only because of the color, which certainly is not for everyone but also the figure-hugging cut and the unforgiving fabric that only a woman with the body of Nicole Kidman can pull off.

I think it’s safe to say that the designers are the ones select the colour of the dress that they want shown. It’s basically like a fashion show. Whenever I’ve modelled in fashion shows we only get to choose between certain dresses, if at all because the store or the designer wants to showcase the dress. So they’re not actually that concerned about how good the models/actress in this case looks . They choose the celebrities based on their body type to display the dress They actually want the dress to shine not the person ✨✨

In her first movie , I think it was sense and sensibility, she looked pretty cool toned . I honestly don't think she looked bad in that cool toned green. As for the charteuse colour dress, it was made by John Galliano when he was working for Christian Dior. I personally don't like this colour, but I have heard it mentioned like a hundred times that this dress transformed her into a fashion girlie.

I think this is a great example of how sometimes you just need to take the color-season-stuff and ignore it completely. You need to be completely blind to think that Nicole in a green dress looks better than Nicole in the dress she actually wore

They definitely don't purchase those dresses and jewelry. They are leant to them for the purpose of publicity for the designer. It's kind of a win win. The designer gets publicity, and the actress/actor gets to look fabulous. You'll also notice in interviews they're often asked who they're wearing. Walking advertisement.

@@ColorClassIncyour point still stands though because the designer is bearing the cost, and if it's not the perfect color then the gown isn't a good advertisement.

Not always, some designers don't do free gowns, and the stars pay for them. However, the stars are paid to wear jewellery and other accessories, so at the end of the day the gown doesn't really cost much.

I cannot see the difference in effect between the 2 Anne Hathaway images. I am a painter and know a lot about color! Yet I do not see how these two different reds affect her skin tone or make up or anything! Wish I could see what you are referring to!!

Anne Hathaway is a dark winter, so she's way too cool for the orange, yes. Kate Winslet is a soft autumn, but you're right, her dress does not look expensive. That dress Nicole is wearing is famous of course; I agree Nicole Kidman is too warm for bright winter yellow dress.

In my opinion the beauty of Nicole’s dress was on that old yellowish colour. Can I ask what season/celebrity would have suit more. Soft Summer/Hunter Sheiffer? ??? ❤ Colour was chartreuse ( lime yellowish)

Honestly I don't really remember the seasons, and it's kind of a problematic system anyway. However, her hair is medium blond with a touch of red, her eyes are light grey-blue and she has neutral undertones. And that is the root of the problem here: that yellow-green dress clashes with the undertones in her skin and the gold in her hair. Making matters worse, the dove grey accents in the dress are fighting with her eye color and the pink accents are fighting with the red in her hair. The bluer green contrasts with the orange undertone in her skin, and the red in her hair. Plus, when a bluer cast is added to the grey in the dress it now *matches* her eye color which brings out her eyes and the lavender accents are no longer fighting with any of the other colors. As they noted, this dress is actually so bad that it made the makeup artist screw up too. Nicole Kidman normally wears a bright orange lipstick, which is perfect for her. I honestly almost didn't recognize her because of the dark red lipstick. But basically whoever did her makeup seems to have overreacted to the fact that her face was so washed out, they not only overdid the blush but they also put her in a comically dark lipstick in a vain attempt to give her some color. They aren't clueless, the lipstick is still slighly orange and they did mix the blush with bronzer, but nothing was going save her face from that dress. This is a perfect example of a case where the garment could have been dyed. A simple dip in some blue dye would have had a beneficial effect on all of the colors in the dress, not just the base color.

Finding the right color and cut to flatter us is like finding a needle in a haystack. If it’s this difficult for celebrities how do any of us stand a chance.

Why do you think that celebrities are any less clueless than the general population? Of course they'd like people to think that, but just look at them. Most of them are a mess in more ways than one. People don't become famous for being wise and having self-knowledge and a good instinct for colour.

It's part of a celebrity's job to look perfect all the time. Looking perfect and being scrutinized by fashion experts is part of their job. YOU do not need to look perfect all the time, most people are not fashion experts. That being said: fewer clothes that look fabulous on you are better than buying trendy clothes that might not look that great on you. I actually find that being strict about colors helps me avoid spending money on clothes I won't wear frequently. Obviously, not everything has to be in your ✨optimal✨ colors, but choosing one to three hues from each part of the color wheel (between eight and ten colors total) and insisting on them when you're at the store really helps narrow down your options and speed up the shopping process. There are color palettes published each season: it pays to give attention to them because those are the colors that department stores will have that season. Look for when your colors come up, and buy your basics then. In other years, just go thrift stores and only look at the stuff that is in your colors.

@@byssabyss celeberties have countless people working on their behalf to style them. Those experts should know fit, color and fashion because it is literally their job. The stars that are showcased in this video have a job of being “pleasing to the eye”, as Lucinda puts it.

Are celebrities wearing the wrong color to look more relatable? Because the garment is free? They are getting paid to wear it? It’s part of the celebrity culture? A contractual obligation? They want to be pictured in something different? Or because everyone around them lies to their face?
@golwenlothlindel
@golwenlothlindel 4 күн бұрын
I think there is a variety of reasons, but one culprit is definitely being too concerned with trends. A lot of times when someone is wearing an inappropriate color-if you look at the trendy color palette for that season you can see where they got the color. Problem is, sometimes zero of the colors on that palette would have fit the relevant person or they skipped over the one color that would have looked good on them (maybe for a good reason, like theme). Though that being said, there are a shocking number of people working in the industry who don't seem to know any color theory at all. Makeup artists, stylists etc.
