My LO is 9 weeks old now and she just started sleeping well through the night waking once to eat (Generally from 8pm to 8am) after flipping her night and day sleep confusion but now doesn't want to sleep during the day. I struggle to put her to sleep just to have her wake up within 10-15mins of laying her down in her crib. I watch her wake time and play sufficient time to tire her. I also watch for her sleep cues which is about 45 mins to an hour later of waking for the morning and immediately start to assist her to sleep. If I manage to put her sleep it won't last longer than 20 mins she wakes up fussy bc she is still sleepy and I spend most of the day trying to get her back to sleep.😫 It's like a never ending cycle through out the day. I have also noticed that she will open her eyes to make sure I am still holding her while she sleeps in my arms. Could she be having separation anxiety? I thought she was too young for this. Or maybe she just wants to be in my arms. My mother has watched her a few times as well during the day and also noticed that she is not sleeping. She eats 4oz every 4 hrs during the day at 8am, 12pm, 4pm and sometimes 6oz at 8pm. Wakes up at 3 am to feed onces and wakes at 8am. Maybe she needs to eat fewer ounces and shorter times spans? After all day of trying to put her to sleep she will fall asleep with no efforts right around 6pm bc she is soo exhausted from not sleeping all day. I am worried for her development bc she should be getting at least 14 hrs of sleep at this age. I am also so very tired and exhausted too and don't know what to do at this point.
@HelpingBabiesSleep
@HelpingBabiesSleep 3 жыл бұрын
She is not having separation anxiety, too little for that. We speak about this frequently in my online group coaching program - trying to identify the root cause - there's something that's distracting her from staying asleep and finishing one sleep cycle. Possible causes include being overtired, gas, the need to burp, distractions with environment.

I feel my 2 month old is doing ok at night- last night she slept a 5.5hr stretch followed by a 3 hr stretch! During the day however, she never wants to nap! If I let her, she would stay up for the entire day! I have tried to follow wake windows and encourage naps to happen but she gets frantic as soon as she is swaddled. She usually is calm until the swaddle is on and has a hard time calming down, even if I hold her and bounce. Putting her to sleep takes about 20-30 minutes of me bouncing her until drowsy, putting her in the crib, her becoming inconsolable even with me shushing her (binky in mouth doesn't work sometimes either). After 30 seconds of a struggle in her crib, I start over with the bouncing and putting her down while drowsy. I feel awful for her because she is usually calm until the nap time begins. What am I doing wrong??
@melissatakesonmomdom3723
@melissatakesonmomdom3723 3 жыл бұрын
I should mention- during the day, she only naps 30-40 minutes tops. Never longer than that. She wakes up hungry every time and is still eating around 2-2.5hrs apart throughout the day. There has been one time where she took a 2 hour nap during the day and we were so excited for her that my husband and I woke her up together and cheered for her haha!

@@d..1437 Hey there! I'll remember as best as I can! Her naps always remained a challenge length-wise. She stayed a catnapper (25-40min tops) until she hit about 7 months. Then she started napping for 45 minute chunks! It was nothing I did, just her getting better at it I think. I practiced putting her down a little sooner and that helped a lot with the fussiness/crying. I always watched wake windows like a hawk and when it was time for a nap, got her all bundled. She ALWAYS stayed upset about being swaddled. I just tried bouncing her less and putting her down sooner. I'd let her fuss a little and go in for a little bit and help her. It was a challenge until we switched her to a zippadee zip when she started rolling around 2.5 months- she surprisingly really did well with a little more wiggle room and would yawn when I put the sleeper on her instead of scream. The actual bedtime process got better with that change!

The moment she is put in the Moses basket to be swaddled she wakes up and refuses to settle again. The most I’ve had her stay down for is twenty minutes. I thought I had it bad and was concerned. My son sleeps all the time. Some days he doesn’t want to nap during the day but I can get up to two hour naps throughout the day. He is also naturally on a pretty set schedule with maybe a 1-2 hour change during the course of the day but he will end up back on schedule by the next day ( he just knows lol) he had bad reflux which was messing up his schedule but once that was resolved he was back on track. He has night bottle at 7 usually is up at 2-3 and then is up again at 7am. Right now he is on a more challenging schedule. I’m trying to get ready for daycare and his feedings unterrupt my morning routine. He sleeps 5p-1a-5a which 5am is when I need to be leaving for work so… pray for me lol

I need some help, my baby who is 7 weeks old is sleeping 5-6 hrs stretches at night from 8pm to about 2:30am and want to continue sleeping. I am strictly breast feeding and need help with should I wake my baby up at 2:30am to feed the baby or should I let the baby continue to sleep and pump at this time. My breast feel enormous and full but I am confused on what to do. I have not found many videos to help with this transition. As of now I have been waking my baby feeding him and putting him back to bed. Where he then feeds 3 hrs later. He is very alert during the day and will only take a couple of 10 min naps. Thank you for the advice in advance!!

Hi there, we can't answer this because we don't know what this baby's weight is, and if they're maintaining their weight curve but the safe thing to do is to wake them up around 2:30 am and feed. This helps relieve your engorgement, helps keep baby hydrated and satiated. This is a great stretch of sleep for this age and you're doing great. FOr the naps, in the daytime you want to try to initiate sleep at around 1 hour of being awake at this age. Our book or Newborn online class would find very helpful in guiding you!

It's very difficult to say with such little information but have you read the book? Days and nights are very tied together at this age. Great sleep at this age is holistic - getting enough food in the daytime and timing. Then watch the video about "babies only sleeping in arms" and you might get more info from that one too - but the book on Amazon is agreat place to start. a.co/d/bJMtusj

@HelpingBabiesSleep
@HelpingBabiesSleep Жыл бұрын
You want to double check with your pediatrician. The reason we wake them is to make sure the breast is being stimulated regularly to keep your milk supply up and so that baby is getting a regular intake of calories. If your baby is gaining weight well and breast feeding is well established, many peds will say you can let them sleep but you should double check.

Night sleep like this is usually all about daytime sleep and feeding. 10 pm is too late for her. Have you read our book? We go over who nights and naps are tied together. Regular naps, regular daytime feeds.. will all help your night. Frequent night waking like that can be a sign of not enough sleep in the daytime. If she's sleeping 4 hours at a time, I'd be worried she's not getting enough oz in during the day but very hard to give good advice on the internet without a thorough history. Update to my comment for anyone struggling through this. I was recommended the book Healthy Sleep Habits, Healthy Child and it was a game changer! I thought my baby was colic but she was just really tired. I followed the book and in 2 days she was sleeping 8-10 hours through the night at 2 months old! It explains “drowsy but awake” strategy and it actually does work if you do it correctly!

My baby is 7.5 weeks and for about a week he is only napping for about 30-45 minutes at a time which I,do understand is normal. Sometimes I try to get him back down for another short nap if he isn't do for a feed and still seems tired but I am not sure if that is counter productive or not. He also has been falling asleep at about 5:30-6:30pm and starting his long night stretches from then, getting 3-4 hour stretches and only waking up for about a half hour or so to feed. So he is essentially "night sleeping" from about 5:30pm until 7 or 8 am. Is this too much night sleep? Is that a thing? 😅
@HelpingBabiesSleep
@HelpingBabiesSleep 2 жыл бұрын
That's amazing!! You're doing a few things right!! The research shows newborns can sleep from 16 to 20 hours in 24 hour period. The only thing to watch out for is if he's "sleeping through feeds." You would want to consult your doctor about this. But in general it's not a bad thing to be a big sleeper.

My baby feeds for sometimes up to 45-an hour, and she always falls asleep at the breast no matter how recently she slept. She also refuses to wait 3 hours to feed again, she’s clearly hungry still in between these “intentional feeds” (I read your book) It makes it impossible to project out: I can’t tell when she’s sleeping, when she’s hungry, or when to know when to put her down again. And then she seems like the calm but awake method of rocking her with my hand or interacting with her that way keeps her wide awake…
