Thank you Heather! I mostly wear sweatpants, but that's because I don't leave my house during the week! I try to wear stuff like this on the weekends though. Also, I wear an ugly set of mechanic's coveralls to work, so I like to do it up right in my "leaving the house" clothes! I think you should wear the dress anyway, I bet you would look just as stunning!

Lynette, you just warmed my heart up a few degrees! I am a firm believer in knowing yourself and being who you are. None of us are perfect and we don't need to be. Perfect is boring. I try not to be down on myself for things unless my behavior is actually destructive to myself or others. Having said that, it is a lot of fun to be able to laugh at yourself and have a good time instead of being mad about silly stuff. So what if I gained a few pounds and my dress doesn't fit like it did in September, I like cookies and holiday parties with delicious food surrounded by my friends. I tend not to overthink things or dwell on them, I have better stuff to do. Ok, I'm going to get off my soapbox now and chill out! Thank you Lynette, you made my day!

Carole, I love my spanx, but its always a better day when you don't need them! I'm not too worried, I do this every year and as soon as I stop eating Christmas cookies by the pound it will work itself out. I'm thinking I will have that 15 lbs gone by Feb 1st, that's usually how it goes for me.

Laurie, I tend to be pretty body positive, I think most of the trepidation is that I cut the pieces out 15lbs ago! I think I will be more comfortable in it when I stop acting like Christmas cookies are actual meals. I generally don't do bodycon either, but I was feeling very bold so I went for it! I do like the Vogue better because its very comfy, like a bathrobe. I was feeling very ladylike in it and it was pretty easy to sew up, so I really do recommend it. Also, Nateida from Natural Dane made hers into tops, and she did an amazing job.

You know I heard that biscuits term way back in my active duty days and it delighted me so much that I have been saying it ever since. It both describes a look and a feeling that I am way too familiar with just perfectly, LOL!!! Now I need to make the Vogue into a top as well, you have completely convinced me! Its so comfortable right, like a secret bathrobe! As for the shoes, we haven't even scratched the surface of the nonsense I put on my feet. Teri, it was really easy to put together and as I really didn't do much for fitting. I think the wrap top makes it easier to put it right where you need it for the bust and you can easily grade at the waist and hip to make that part fit. I cant say enough good things about it!

Thank you Susan! I put in a little extra effort since both the dresses were more of a date night type of look. You know my hair normally looks more hobo chic! I promise there is no lack of body love in my sewing room, merely an observation that my dress fit perfectly in September, but cookies are delicious. So maybe a lesson learned about retaking measurements?

Janet, my music selections are based on what is available in the free library in my editing program, slim pickins, but I thought it was catchy so glad you liked it! Spanks are a useful tool that I employ to assist me, they definitely don't perform miracles, that's for sure! I love my figure, but when I wear things with a slim line, my figure tends to bunch skirts up around my hips, so the spanx take care of that for me. I love that vogue dress and I think its a new favorite pattern!

Tea, my spanxs have done me a lot of favors over the years! They have a glorious way of helping slim fitting dresses skim over the curves instead of getting hung up on them. So yes, I will continue wearing them with pride, I think Mimi G wears them too! I could have sworn she said that she did.

The green cut off to a tunic with black leggings and boots would be amazing too! The navy dress, how easy would it be to put a fuller skirt on the top portion? LOL, thank you! So, I don't think you could have picked an easier dress to swap the skirt on. I think the wrap style of the top lends itself to that kind of pattern hacking perfectly. I would say don't add too much fullness or it would get really heavy and maybe drag the bodice down if you aren't careful.

Thank you Angela, I was really happy with how they turned out as well. So, they are both knit dresses, and for the vogue dress you have a little wiggle room in the bodice part because you can decide how much you want to wrap it and it is not fitted at all in the sleeve or shoulder. Its some sort of hybrid kimono raglan type of thing. As long as you get the waist and hip right, it will be smooth sailing! For swatches, you can go to Fabric Mart and join the Julies Picks club, or you could do Vogue Fabrics and you get swatches quarterly. Vogue is the pricier option, I recommend starting with Fabric Mart and seeing how you like it. Also, many online shops will send you swatches if you request them.

Thank you Diana! I think I was a little hesitant about the fit because I cut out the pieces about 15 lbs before I made and wore the dress, for me, most of the weight settles in the hips and booty. Now, I think I still look great, but we all know that we fit for the body we have and I accidentally didn't. So, what I have here is a dress for the awesome body I had in September, not the gorgeous body I have right now. Both bodies are good, but one fit better in that dress than the other, see what I mean? So, no self loathing in my sewing room, just the naked truth! I promise.

Hey Nikki!!! I finally ordered the V8825 and should have it in my grubby little hands by the end of next week. Do you think it would work with a stretch satin? I have a piece that I didn't intentionally buy for the dress quite a while ago that I thought I would use as a wearable muslin-not that I have any place to wear it! lmao! I just wanted your opinion before I cut into it in case you think it may be too heavy.

Im not sure... If it drapes well, I think you will be ok, but if it has too much body, I think your sleeves will be pretty poofy. Proceed cautiously!

Hi Val! I think the Vogue is my favorite for right now, but after the stress of the move and all of the holiday food madness is over I will fit a little easier into the McCalls and will probably wear the hell out of it! So far the wrap dress top hasn't gaped, I don't expect it to. It feels very secure and is so comfy! The packing is close to being done, I was doing my best to get it done before Tim gets here, which is tomorrow, so I failed, but that's ok. We have about a week to finish before we have to load the truck. So, I apologize for being MIA, but I had some pressing moving stuff to deal with.

Sewing at Midnight I hate moving, we lived in the same house for 30 years. We retired 2 1/2 years ago and downsized we really had to declutter. I’m so glad it’s behind us now., and I love where we are now. It is a stressful time especially when Christmas is just a few days away.
