Omg girl, you are so fricking entertaining! It’s very heartwarming and humbling that you share your sewing struggles as well as your wins. We all have those struggles we want to forget. Putting them right out there and being able to laugh at ourselves and move on is very healthy. You look great in the bodysuit and I like both skirts on you. Maybe a decorative skirt pin would make you feel more comfortable in the asymmetrical skirt. ( like a kilt pin). 🤗
@SewingatMidnight6 жыл бұрын
Oh, a skirt pin, I hadn't even thought of that! I love that idea! Ok, so once I watched the video, I realized that the skirt actually did look pretty good and I think I am starting to realize that what I see in the mirror isn't always what everyone else sees. Now, don't get me wrong, most of the time I look and think about how great my outfit is, then I see pictures and I am mortified, but this time, it was the opposite. I love laughing at myself, it keeps me sane and happy. Sometimes people think I am feeling down or beating myself up, but for me, having a good sense of humor and a lightness in my heart is key to my happiness! I know you get me!

I’m so glad you rescued the body suit because it looks fabulous on you. The wrap skirt is cool too but I wondered if they designed it with enough wrapover. (You may know how I feel about McCalls; insert side eye here.) Love your warm shawl collar top! Love your dramatic exposed zip skirt! You’re cranking out the jams and doing it while undertaking a move. Hats off, milady, hats off!!
@SewingatMidnight6 жыл бұрын
Hi Viv! How is Florida? They definitely did not put enough wrap in that skirt to contain my booty! However, with some leggings I won't have to worry about tossing out peep shows, so its ok. I have gotten to the point in the move where I have so many things I need to do that I have decided to do none of them. I am in a sort of moving/sewing stasis that renders me useless. I will snap out of it soon, it usually takes a few weeks before I get my energy back.

I find you so very entertaining and talented. I did sew all of my clothes back in the 70s and 80s when it was not so cool to do so. I made many difficult and beautiful clothes, including jeans. Back then, I wore a straight size 12 so sizing was really simple. Now, I am not sure about what size to sew (large bust), 16? 18? I would love to sew a garment to wear. Maybe I could dust off my serger and make a drop shoulder knit top. Your videos really make me feel like I should give it a go. Thanks. I enjoy your humor and sewing drive.
@SewingatMidnight6 жыл бұрын
Betty, its comments like these that keep me going. I would love for you to feel inspired to sew again! As for the measurements, if you have a more slim figure with a large bust, I would recommend Vivmom Sews channel, she has that sort of shape and she choses her patterns based on the finished bust measurement, I have small shoulders and a narrow waist with huge hips, so I am all over the place as far as choosing a size. I use the Nancy Zieman method to choose my size which is based on my shoulders and then adjust from there on out. So, take those measurements and see where you stand! No time like the present!

Love the fabric of your first make. It's so...oatmeal-y! And that skirt, especially how you styled it with the all black & belt, looks SO awesome. And I'm not usually into asymmetry. I'd be scared to wear it though, since it only has snaps at the waist...but that's what thick tights/leggings are for, right? That Saggy Collar face, so relatable. I'm gonna need to borrow that Burda skirt from you because it's wicked cute. That zipper is awesome! Your dad "pranking" you back is just the best thing.

Ah Ruby, you always know how to lift the spirit up! Glad you liked the skirt, I think that I have now seen it on video, it looks better than I thought. I just would have to wear it when there is absolutely no wind! I am really into that Burda skirt as well, but the zipper likes to bunch up at the top, I will have to see what I can do about that. I think its because its a heavy duty zip, so watch out for that if you decide to try it out.

I always love sharing my real thoughts with you guys. I know a lot of people think I am down on myself too much, but I'm really not. I just feel like when you're disappointed having a good laugh at yourself can really pull you out of the mire and give some levity to the situation. So, you can do this! Take the collar off the black bodysuit and the fabric from the collar to make a neckband that folds down. You will find tutorials on youtube for sewing neckbands with stretch fabric. I think it will look better if you have a neckband that folds down onto the neck. The floppy black stretch you have used for your bodysuit will probably work better a neckband that folds down onto the neck area and lies flat on it.
@SewingatMidnight6 жыл бұрын
I think that's a great idea, I will probably just turn it under and stitch and see what happens. The fabric I used was a total steal, so if I screw up, it wont break my heart. I will just have incentive to make another!

I really liked it after I saw how it looked in the video, I think my mirror may be lying to me! I think this skirt is not meant for windy days and definitely requires a very opaque set of tights.

Check out Liz Sews version, she did it in a really thick boiled wool. Maybe your just choosing the wrong type of fabrics/patterns🤔?
@SewingatMidnight6 жыл бұрын
Its possible Lisa, which pattern specifically did Liz do? I think part of my problem was some sort of internal need for something to go well instead of just enjoying the process.

Have you gone under ground? Have not heard from you in two weeks. Hope you are OK. Dana Babbitt

Hi Dana! Thank you for asking, I have been working on packing up the entire house by myself so I haven't had much time for sewing or videoing lately. But, this weekend I managed to film two videos and I will try to work on another one this week. So, expect the first one on Wednesday, and another one just after Christmas. So sorry, but it has been crazy around here!

Moving is the very Devil & I live in England & if you were moving from the tip to the top it wouldn't be more than a 12 hr drive! Good luck over the next few weeks- I like that top it looks very cosy. TheVivienne Westwood looks really great I think, I love it.

Heather, I have heard that that there is a big difference between what Americans and the British think of as "far away". I will be driving for about two days to get to Arizona! If you ever make it to America with a good amount of time on your hands, nothing beats a cross country road trip! Glad you like the skirt, I think I will feel ok about it when I wear it a little more. It actually looked ok on video when I watched it.

Hello beautiful, you just do what you need to do. Moving is a lot of work. Love to see your videos but we will be here after your move too! Hugs. Persevere with snaps, sometimes they are just the best option, and they are fast. I started to buy that skirt for my daughter but then I decided it looked more awkward than cool. But you actually look really nice wearing it. Can you change the bodysuit neckline to a jewel neck, or boatneck? I think with cutting the one neck band you have enlarged the neckline too much for a traditional turtle neck.
@SewingatMidnight6 жыл бұрын
I think I will take the turtle neck off and just turn it under. That's a good idea! I am still on the fence about that skirt and it certainly isn't meant for a windy day!

Well for sure either wear tights or pretty underwear!

I feel the same way about shift dresses and crop tops, Brandy! Some styles just don't suit me and its the same for every single one of us. So, you find the things that work for your beautiful body and you just run with it!

Likey likey. I like my collars loose.

I do too, but I like them to look loose on purpose! This one needs some work, but I am glad you liked it!

I also think your bodysuit material is worth saving. I think a solution will come to get a collar that works.... it’s coming...
@SewingatMidnight6 жыл бұрын
I think the solution may be t chop it off and turn it under. I will probably make some more, I like the very slim fit of it. It will go nicely under dressier pants and skirts. I always have trouble tucking things into garments like that, so this may just be the solution I was looking for!

Gurl, I made the same Simplicity bodysuit pattern for my daughter. Let's just say she won't wear it. #strugglesuit

I'm cracking up over here Sherri, I was having to put in some effort with those crotch snaps, but I think a little length in the back would save me some trouble. I just cant seem to help myself, it will look good with so many things!!!

Glad you liked it Jean, not a whole lot I can do about the stuff you didn't like, but I can try to keep that in mind for the future. No promises!
