Cole and Brian, apologies if you know this already. In horse breeding a foal can sometimes be born too fast, or the brain doesn't quite kick in that they are born. They are known as dummy foals and have similar appearance to your calf. Some vets devised a system of ropes, which basically you put around the foal, then squeeze down them from head to tail, giving the foal the feeling of being born. That has had a good outcome for setting off the hormones needed and a very good recovery for the foal. I have no idea if it works with calves. If you are interested, you can search the Madigan foal squeeze technique on you tube. I hope the calf is ok.

Those trailers hauling cattle are commonly called “cow pots”.

I think we’ve always referred to him as that and I’m from a different part of the country. But probably just a little bit older than you at 60+
@wayner8069 ай бұрын
@@asquithmainlines699 Google search shows that pots are double decked but I couldn’t find how the name came about. When we had a pot show up, I felt we were big time but most of the time we had an older gentleman that lived locally with a straight that hauled for us. Key memory of him-he had two silver dollars that he carried for years that he always showed us and they had rubbed against each other until they weren’t much bigger than quarters. As a kid I was fascinated to see those every time we saw him.

We. had a calf like that this year. Just no energy at all. (had some last year also). Tried colostrom, getting it up, things all farmers try. Called vet. No one around. Finally was going to put in warmer for the night. Vet called, took it to vet, he loaded it up with lots of stuff. Said it was low on selenium.( Last years calf also). took it home and put in warmer for the night. Next day he was 100% better. He is a big calf so legs are curved but he's up and around and living. Gonna put out selenium blocks before they calve from now on. It takes about 3 months to get into system of cows so they both benifit.
