Nintendo not crediting the original artists on the app is my biggest problem. No mention of artists like Koji Kondo, Toby Fox, no one. I’m genuinely worried too for cover artists I was gonna upload some in the future with FL Studio but I think covers are safe under if it’s used in a creative interpretation just like how Nintendo is fine with a videogame playthrough with constructive criticism and/or creative editing. Videos that use their music in the background directly from their games has me concerned especially if they use ai detection to copyright music takedowns.

Yeah, that's bad. I hope they change it.

Safe on KZbin maybe. 8 Bit Big Band said they removed Dolphin Shoals from their previous album before release because Nintendo’s licensing fees/negotiations for it were too exorbitant.

First complaint: no playlist duplicate detection. I manage and maintain many and varied playlists, and it is already becoming annoying to hunt down and delete duplicates I’ve accidentally added to lists. Spotify, for example, says “this playlist already contains this track. Add it anyway?” any time adding a duplicate track to any playlist is attempted. Speaking of Spotify, Nintendo trying to compete with them (and Apple Music and KZbin Music and Amazon Music) is-like many of Nintendo’s decisions-lame and irritating. In other words, I wish Nintendo’s music was available via Spotify, even if it required logging in to (and subscribing through) my Switch Online account still. Second/third complaint: HDCP protection. Apparently screen recordings don’t capture audio from this app. Also annoying. No web app. No native iPad app. No track previews. No main album art option (though I do enjoy the custom song art usually). I wonder how Smash Bros. OSTs will be implemented in future. No mono audio option. No EQ settings or presets. No crossfade options.

There are a lot of neat considerations that came with this app, such as marking songs as spoilers and having the option to extend certain songs by 15, 30, or 60 minutes! I don't even really mind that you need a Nintendo Switch Online subscription and a Nintendo Account to get the app, yeah I'd probably prefer to buy and own it individually, but it's a nice bonus for anyone who already has an NSO subscription. There are some issues with the app, though, and hopefully Nintendo will get to fixing some of them going forward. For example: -Credit the composers and/or arrangement artists. This feels self-explanatory, but Nintendo could also do what they do with their characters and set up playlists for their composts, like all of Koji Kondo's music or all of David Wise's music for example. -Add more music more frequently, 20 game/system soundtracks feels like a pitiful start considering how MASSIVE their catalog is, and the slow drip-feed they do with their NSO game library releases just isn't going to cut it with this app. -Make sure all tracks and their variants are available on the app. As far as I can tell, there aren't any missing tracks that I've noticed, but it'd be pretty easy to overlook a variant or a theme that only plays at select points in a game, and if Nintendo really wants people to use this app as opposed to looking it up on KZbin, they should ensure that everything is there. -Have the option to extend the music be available for EVERY track. The option doesn't show up for certain tracks, which I found odd and inconsistent. Some of them, like Jump Up, Superstar, make sense, but others like the Title Theme for Ocarina of Time, they could easily extend that one but just... don't. -Have a PC version available. So far this is an app exclusive to smart devices, but I've seen the odd complain that it should be available for computers too, and honestly, I don't see why it shouldn't also be available on computers. Maybe they can work on that. Right now, the app is at an adequate start, not really the most ideal way to launch an app, but it IS something people have been asking for with lots of handy features. I just hope Nintendo is receptive to the complains and critiques people have with it... And since this kind of thing is inevitable, my most-wanted game soundtracks for the app: 1.) Wario Land 4 2.) Rhythm Tengoku (for GBA) 3.) Rhythm Heaven (for Nintendo DS) 4.) Rhythm Heaven Fever 5.) Rhythm Heaven Megamix 6.) EarthBound 7.) EarthBound Beginnings/MOTHER 8.) Paper Mario 9.) Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door (both the original AND the remake) 10.) Kid Icarus Uprising (honorable mention goes to MOTHER 3, not sure of Nintendo will bother acknowledging that one, but here's hoping they will)

VERY happy Halloween, indeed!!! What a fantastic step forward!! Hopefully they add the credits for the original artists without us having to Google each one. Being able to access these songs so easily is what we've wanted for so long!! Easily going to sate my hunger for the time being, but I will continue to dream of a day when the U.S. gets some official Nintendo vinyls.

Thanks so much for the review and announcement of this new feature!! I am excited that Nintendo explicitly highlights which music is theirs, which can come in handy for new and upcoming cover artists as well as experienced ones. That said, I can easily see this app being used as an excuse for whitelisting covers. Time will tell what happens next

Leave it to Nintendo to do something like this. A huge library of your favorite tracks, online services for your switch games (even if it is a, *ahem*, bit sketchy), and retro games on switch all for only $20 a year or less if you split a family plan. With a student discount, Spotify more expensive in at best 2 months and at worst, 2 weeks ($4.50 a person if you have 8 people on a NSO family plan). If they continue to improve this app, it could be amazing.

I saw Jonny Atmas saying he hopes this means covers of Nintendo music can now be licensed and release on platforms like Spotify, and cynically saying he doubt it will happen. I’ll have my fingers crossed that people like him and you will benefit from this rather than get screwed over by Nintendo.

I LOVE that Nintendo is finally acknowledging their fans clamoring to be able to listen to their music. The lack of credit to the original composers is a little concerning, but that can be fixed with a pretty quick update. (Also I cannot put into words how disappointed I am that Xenoblade Chronicles is completely absent from the app but I can live with Splatoon for now)

Wait, there's a way to listen to actual Nintendo soundtracks, easily? (I'm tired of searching for half-deleted youtube channels to find Nintendo music ;-; ) Edit : You need a Switch Online subscription to access the app. I wasn't paying one to play online games, I'm not going to pay one just to listen to things I can find on youtube. Great work, Nintendo.

this is a good thing but I wish it wasn't just an app and there was some kind of physical release on cd or vinyl as well because like you said if they get bored of supporting this then poof it just goes away and we are screwed all over again also I don't know if I want to sign up to use this app I have been playing nintendo games since the famicom but I don't know yet if I want to sign my life away to them just to listen to my favorites tunes, if I did so I would feel obliged to try to listen to music from games I haven't played and while that does sound fun and interesting I don't want to listen exclusively to music from nintendo but getting this app would force me to do that in my mind but maybe I am wrong about this, for now I will wait and do more research and hear what more people have to say but yeah this is good even if it isn't completely convenient for me, also it is so good to hear you are on vacation and having a good time! party on bud you deserve it!
