Aw those two are so beautiful and chilled birdies, can you cover bonding parrotlets in numbers more than 2. I have one parrotlet who is an outsider ☹️

my parrotlet is 2.5yrs old, how does that affect the taming process?
@ParrotBliss
@ParrotBliss 3 жыл бұрын
It just makes is slower. Means you have to be more patient and give the taming process plenty of time. The more time you can spend with your Parrotlet on a daily basis, the faster you will see progress. LMK how it goes.

Thank you I will keep at it. My 6 month old just hates hands. he is always on me, with me, follows me from room to room, eats from my hand. He watches me with my female who steps up lets me touch hold pick up. But touching him is out he flies away then comes back, kinda like putting me in my cage for bad behavior LOL

I need help please to know how to hand tame a 5+ month old Amazon that I just got 3 days ago. She was hand fed but doesn’t want to step up or take treats from my hand. She climbs away if I try to get her out of her cage or if I try to hand feed her a treat. I’m very sad and discouraged because my other large parrots where all bonded to me because I finished hand feeding them when they were on 3 or 4 feedings a day. If I pick her up by her foot she is better once she is on my hand and she will sit on a “tree branch” table stand for quite a while. She did let me scritch the back of her neck ♥️😁 the night she came here shortly after getting taken out of the crate that she flew here in from FL. I am very experienced with large parrots for over 20 years. I’ve had 2 Yellow Napes, a Citron Crested Cockatoo, a Blue and Gold Macaw, a Congo African Gray and a Rose Breasted Cockatoo. It all started with a cockatiel that a friend of mine brought over. 😊 I greatly desire to have her step up and let me touch her. I get very much pleasure from being able to touch and handle my pets. Thank you very much. She has not bitten me at all but she did bite a vet when she was here to do a “well bird” check up 2 days ago. I’m on Facebook. Please feel free to PM me. Kerry

From what you say, you are starting off well. She is taking to you. Give her time and patience. I let my birds just hang out until they are comfortable and want to come to me. Makes all the difference. It's going better than you think, keep at it and be patient.

You said about a year old…what about 2 year old clutch mates? We have two sweet boys that are scared of us, and they aren’t interested in hanging out with us. Are they a lost cause? They are eating only chop and pellets. They don’t care about millet when I try to bribe them.

Use the chop and pellets to bribe them. At 2 I don’t think they are a lost cause, but I think they’ll need work. Do they come out of their cage?

@@ParrotBliss no, they just swing on their swing and eat like it’s going out of style. Mr. Duck is more afraid of me than Chirpy, his brother.

@@TheChickwithguns they definitely aren't a lost cause I just recently got my parrotlet it's the 4th day and he's still a bit scared me personally I use a millet spray and he eats off it they're good treats that you can use to tame and just spend alot of time with them and be consistent and they'll get tame over time also a good thing to do is just put food right next to you and eventually when the parrots are hungry they will come but sometimes they don't either but yea I use millet sprays and they good my parrot isn't as scared as first day they also take time to get used to surroundings 😁

We got 3 5mo old parrotlets that aren’t hand fed so they’re pretty skittish and bitey. Hoping this works
@ParrotBliss

It’s more challenging when they aren’t hand fed, for sure. Try to spend one on one time with them as best you can. Maybe take one into a small room and just hang out with them, let them be in the same space with you as much and as often as you can. That way you can start to tame them more so one at a time.
@mahito307

@@ParrotBliss I have tried that and they fly away, and bite really hard 🤣🤣 I’m not really for it but should they be clipped for the training or leave them flighted?
@ParrotBliss
@ParrotBliss Жыл бұрын
@@mahito307 you can - but since they weren’t hand fed, it’s just going to be challenging. We adopted a five year old Parrotlet that clearly was not tame, and probably had a lot of time, not being tame if he was ever tame. He will now approach us, even though we don’t really work with him because his mate likes us. Another thing that may work for you is to put one parrotlet in a smaller cage that you can carry around with you. Keep them with you as much as you can all day long. Time is a magical ingredient here, Patience is just a necessity too. It’s possible they will never be as tame as one that was hand, fed, likely. If they breed, make sure you learn how to hand feed, or let the parents feed and spend time with the babies. That might give you a very different experience.
