I don't think my mother ever made sweet potato pie, but I love all things with sweet potatoes. I think I will try your recipe first, I like the creamier texture and especially the spice.

Sweet Potato Pie is delicious! It’s odd that my Mom never made this pie, especially because everyone that had ever eaten any of her baked pies and cakes ( And of course all 11 of her children as well) knew she made the best pies around (my favorite was her Lemon Meringue Pie) She baked some type of desserts for us to enjoy after dinner. I had never eaten a SPP until my Mother-in-law made them. Pumpkin Pie was my favorite until I ate the SPP.

Hi Tammy, Another point to make about microwaving sweet potatoes or any fruit or vegetable is that it will denature them. Thank you for all the wonderful recipes.

We grew up keeping sweet potatoes around to eat. We rub the bacon grease around the skins, wrap in foil and bake them. The skins would just fall off. We never really needed honey or brown sugar on them, maybe some butter if they were still hot, but we used to just eat one a day later cold.

I was too impatient to make a good crust, but my grandmother would make a good crust and then roll out the left over pieces and bake those. As much as I loved sweets, I loved eating those pieces of hot crust with no sweetening or spice on it.

Tammy, I have tried both! My family is split on both pies! Me and my kids love your pie the best it’s sweeter! But my Husband loves your Granny’s the best less sweet! However, if we all just had Granny’s we would add cool whip and eat it too! They are both that delicious! Everyone should buy your cookbooks or download for free, no excuses! 🤤😋🥰❤️✝️

Hello. Tammy. I'll be 80 next year and love to cook. I have just found your site. I really enjoyed how you presented your recipes, especially that you told why you did your steps. I microwaved a sweet potato recently and wondered why it was so stringy and not creamy. I look forward to your next recipe.

Hi Tammy, both look delicious but I prefer your Granny’s because there’s no cinnamon in it. That’s the kind I grew up eating from my Grandmothers. I saw a recipe for peach cobbler with cinnamon & I could never imagine putting cinnamon in a peach cobbler nor would I do that. I know that a lot of people like cinnamon in almost everything but there are also a lot that don’t like it in everything. I have stopped buying any types of sweets because it seems that they think cinnamon should be in almost everything that is sweet. Don’t get me wrong, I know that it should be in some things but not everything. I’m going to try your Granny’s because it sounds like it would taste just like my grandmother’s and I’ve been looking for a recipe that would resemble hers for years & this looks like it will be like what I grew up eating. Also it’s delicious eaten cold from the refrigerator as I remember. Thank you so much for your recipes. I so enjoy watching you and your husband in the kitchen and outside. Keep up the good work and God bless you both.

Maybe your granny used so much sugar in her pie because her potatoes weren’t very sweet. Maybe not. I’ve never made sweet potato pie but have used the recipe when making pumpkin pie. Was delicious. I can’t imagine not putting cinnamon in it. Have you ever made a Sugar Cream pie on your channel? I’m too tired to look. My air conditioning is out and the temps and humidity have been in the high 80s and 90s for 3 weeks. I’m not getting anything done, cook very little and sweat a lot. I need my ductwork swept. They are coming Monday to my pigsty of a house. So embarrassing. My little dog is suffering but my cats like it warm.

I love sweet potato pie and bake then a few times a year. Question: I used to bake mine for the length of time you suggested. However once out of the oven they sunk a little which is normal, but a little later developed a big crack in the filing. Of course pie was good just not eye appealing. Several people said it was because I was baking them too long. So now I bake until outer part rises but center is just a little wiggly, which is usually around 45-50 minutes. People said center will continue to cook once out of oven, but will not develop any major cracks. I would like your ideas on this.

I made Granny’s after I had volume 2 cookbook n loved it. My entire family did also. My mom’s had no cinnamon but 1 c sugar and again cream to make 2 pies was the amount she used. I thought 3/4 cup and so I think it was a combo. Of both. When making for my family I usually do my mom’s but that 1 Christmas when I didn't everyone liked it. Oh and 6T butter. Salted of course. Lol
